Name: Atticus Acallagris
Age: 24
Birthday: September 19
Gender: Male, cisgendered
Species: (Half) Caladrius
Category: Citizen
Career: Underground healing services (and... torture and human flesh sales)
Appearance Description:
Bleached opaque white, paper white rather than milk or bone, with vivid yellow eyes and a narrow streak of the same shade across his lower lids and the bridge of his nose, Atticus is an elegant man of unimpressive height (but moderate musculature - birds don't really bulk up much even when they're tough) who has been mistaken for angelfolk almost more than his heritage has been correctly identified. His feather-wisp hair is often coiled into a loose bun, as it fluffs itself into a lazily showy crest if left loose for too long, and it stains something fierce. His skin resists blood much better, but his hair simply has too much surface area to clean easily. Should it happen to imply his activities too openly, Atticus will dye it all in his favourite colour of the moment; said colour is usually a warm tone.
Atticus often dresses in solid colours and pays for strong anti-staining enchantments, especially on his boots. He's a big fan of leather boots with straps and buckles. His one permanent accessory is a white leather collar, snug at the base of his long neck. It has no clasp or seam, and the outside is enchanted against damage and staining while the inside is enchanted to prevent him from shape-shifting; allergies are a pain. And dangerous.
Personality Description: Confident and patient in most things, Atticus has a goal - power and social prominence - and feels he is not, and ought not be, burdened by the expectations of his heritage. The best murderers and torturers have medical knowledge. Limiting healing to polite persuasions is incredibly inefficient. He enjoys posing with tea beside professional flower arrangements in his crisp, white (outer) office, strolling the back edges of the city on sunny days (looking for desperate people who will literally sell their flesh to him, possibly after he robs them and cuts off a limb or two).
If one wants to draw Atticus' attention, money is recommended. He loves being bribed, and also enjoys selling replaceable things (but he does put a high price on his own flesh. Part of the business and all that), and part of the reason he's trying to bring his business to shadowy prominence is to get more people to bribe him. Especially to silence. How's that for a high profit margin?
Atticus is mildly annoyed by his allergies, cheers on cats who kill birds despite being half magic bird, and once threw scout cookies, one by one, off a roof trying to hit people who looked like they were going to do something important so he could sell them healing. Alcohol was involved, yes. He also gets a "little" flirty when drunk.
Species Abilities:
Consume thy Pain by the Sun's Light
Looking upon the face of an injured person transfers their injury to Atticus, regardless of his opinion on the matter. Fortunately for him, though, his injuries heal extremely rapidly when exposed to sunlight. A severed limb is not at all threatening in bright light, although it is rather painful. In darkness, Atticus has no special healing abilities. Injuries inflicted directly upon him heal at half the rate of consumed wounds.
Injuries thus healed do not leave scars, and consumed injuries are generally untraceable by magic.
Caladrius Shifting
Locked by enchanted collar due to allergies
Technically speaking, Atticus has the ability to shift into an avian form, a white heron-like bird that stands about two feet high. It is a gradient-based shift, with the potential for all of the control that his healing lacks. Except for his allergies.
Powers: Real Locks are your Friends
Accalon possesses the skill to 'pick' magical locks, wards, and bindings. He cannot disperse them but can disable them (depending on their complexity). These can be spells the prevent access to or through something (i.e. chests and doors) or inhibitory magic (on other people; if his magic is inhibited before he can start, he can't do anything about it). He's even been known to break a curse or two out of curiosity and boredom.
Biography: Atticus is a Manta Carlos native, probably with genetic ties to somewhere in Europe. He really doesn't care, though. This is his home and it would be too much bother to go anywhere else. For a local, he has a pretty standard backstory, slightly modified for his allergies. Magic-wielding human dad, magic bird (shifter) mom, hatched from an egg in bird form and promptly began to react to daddio. Medical help, allergy assessment, really weird stressful time for baby Atticus, eventual decision that human form would be safer, development of the (predecessor of the) collar he wears now to prevent unintentional shifting and potential death.
His parents lived apart after Atticus' situation was sorted out, with Atticus living with his father, and his dad got used to showering after visiting his wife. It got easier on the parents once Atticus started going to school, although their kid had a few more anaphylaxis scares thanks to classmates (and one teacher). In high school, he found himself watching illegal fights on a regular basis with some friends, and eventually started marketing his healing ability to both losers and winners. It proved quite lucrative (to a teenager) and eventually landed him a part-time job (so the club could profit from his work, mostly).
It was a good thing he joined on with them, because the number of people assuming he was some innocent fool angel-type and trying to take advantage of him kept climbing, and the club taught him to defend himself.
So he started using those skills to freelance and... create business opportunities for himself.
Atticus has now secured a little office rental in the Underground and is expanding into the side of illegal groceries that caters to human-eaters. Well, people-eaters; Atticus is willing to work with anything that isn't part bird. It's much easier to source fresh flesh when the source organism doesn't die. Or the harvester. Which might happen if he tried to butcher something avian. Sigh.
Additional Information: Severe Allergies
In human form, Accalon is allergic to birds. In caladrius form, Accalon is allergic to humans. In an intermediate form, he is mostly allergic to himself. Symptoms begin with itchy, irritable skin and progress to tingling numbness and swelling. If exposure continues, Accalon will experience anaphylactic shock within 5-10 minutes of direct contact and 20-30 minutes of shared airspace (i.e. same room with average or below ventilation). Time to anaphylaxis is doubled in strong sunlight thanks to his caladrian healing ability.
