Gabe felt his cheeks go warm at Yuki's explanation. It was very flattering to hear that his boyfriend thought so much of him but having heard the compliment being used to explain their relationship to his mom? Well, that left him a bit more flustered. He originally had wanted to be upset with his mom for being nosy since it felt so invasive yet at the same time he knew that he should try to be more open about the relationship. Gabe hadn't mentioned it for nearly six months and it wasn't fair of him to be annoyed when Catalina probably had nothing more than a genuine interest in her younger son's relationship.

He wasn't quite sure how to follow up with such a nice compliment, so he just kind of let out a small laugh and guided Yuki to the chair next to him. His boyfriend's hand, however, remained firmly entwined with his and he gave a small reassuring squeeze.

Catalina couldn't help but let out a small "Awww!" at the white-haired boy's explanation. It was a bit vague and she did want to know more about how the two got together but Yuki's compliments were very sweet and genuine. She didn't have to turn around to look at the young man to know that he very much meant what he said. "Well, I'm glad to hear that. I know Gabriel is a very sweet child; he always has been. Even if he tries to hide it behind his serious expression when he wants to be left alone." She laughed as her son sputtered in argument before she hushed him.

"I'm teasing, Gabriel, don't be silly. But I'm glad he's treating you right, Yuki. And you've definitely been a positive influence on his life. It makes a lot of sense looking back now that his mood got significantly better just after Valentine's Day..." She let out another laugh as Gabe just seemed to sink in his chair slightly. "So, if you got together in February, that means your six month is coming up! Oh, how exciting! And Gabriel's birthday, too!" She beamed, her attention shifting to start getting the rice pilaf started as the chicken breasts were beginning to fry. A strong aroma of spices and cooked meat began to fill the kitchen and dining room.

Yuki tried not to die openly as he suffered through a whole barrage of Catalina's questions, and only barely managed to succeed - his success was solely thanks to the supportive little gestures and whispered comments coming from his boyfriend right next to him. Dinner itself was a fairly harmless affair, but still the questions came. He answered every one of them tactfully and with a mature air, but occasionally the mask would slip and he'd go mushy (and this basically happened every time he answered a question about what he thought of Gabe.)

It was clear for all to see that yes, Yuki Hayashi was in fact deeply in love with his boyfriend, and it was also subtly visible through certain actions that he wanted some alone time with said boyfriend. He hadn't seen Gabe in what felt like years, and being able to do whatever he wanted without supervision was a godsend. It wasn't like he wanted to do anything risqué, but he did want some much-needed privacy - especially after being kept under constant surveillance for all hours of the day (at least, he was fairly sure of such. He hadn't listened closely to the doctors' explanation of Green Meadows' safety measures but had heard about their magical, not visibly-invasive monitoring system.)

Honestly, he kind of just wanted to curl up into a bed with Gabe and cuddle for a few hours in their sleep. He was starved for physical affection.

Gabe did his best to keep as neutral of an expression as possible as Catalina dove into her questioning and being a nosy mom as usual. But, thankfully, she didn't ask anything too embarrassing or personal. And it seemed like the very awkward topic about the birds and the bees wasn't going to come up, either, so that was a very positive sign. He answered her questions over dinner as well, occasionally feeling his cheeks go warm at his boyfriend's very affectionate answers about him. Gabe chimed in with some kind answers of his own, enjoying being fully honest about their relationship with his mom. Dinner wrapped up nicely and Catalina began to prepare two mugs of hot chocolate for the boys and a cup of coffee for herself.

"Dinner was delicious, mama. Thank you for cooking." Gabe said as he began to wash the dishes while she prepared the drinks with a small smile.

Catalina smiled at the two as dishes were cleaned and drinks were made. The two were clearly smitten with one another and Yuki seemed to be a very positive influence on Gabriel. Although a few concerns still lingered in her head, they were mostly minor nitpicks that wouldn't get in the way of her son's happiness. So she had no need to bring them up now; perhaps one day those little concerns would become absolutely nothing and she'd have no reason to worry at all.

But there was one major concern that had to be mentioned.

Although her two boys were young adults, they were still young and prone to making mistakes.. Diego had always been a rebellious sort and Gabriel was sweet but had a tendency to hide things, even now. She set the mugs down for the two, motioning for them to sit and enjoy their drink. She waited until both were clear and ready to speak before speaking her mind."

"Gabriel, Yuki." Catalina spoke, her tone light yet commanding of their attention. "I will admit that I was surprised to hear about your relationship, especially considering that it's been almost half a year and I had no idea. I'm not mad or disappointed, nor do I disapprove of it. In fact, I'm glad that you two were able to find another and have a happy relationship." She smiled wide, which Gabriel returned earnestly with a small blush on his cheeks. "However, I am a mom and I will always worry about my boys. And that doesn't mean just Gabriel and Diego. Yuki, you're part of our little family, too. So, for my sake, please be honest with me."

"You two are being 'safe' in your relationship, yes?"

Gabriel promptly choked on the gulp of hot chocolate, swallowing it down before breaking into a coughing fit.

Yuki had to hold in a massive cooing session the moment he heard the word 'mama' come out of Gabriel's mouth. It was cute. Too cute. Way too cute! His fingers trembled at his sides, held back from pinching his boyfriend's cheeks. His mouth twitched at the corners, restrained from bursting into a huge grin. His legs resisted the urge to stand up so he could just envelop his Gabey into a huge, squishy hug.

The warm, fuzzy mood was promptly interrupted with The Talk. His eyes flew open and stayed that way, an almost-deranged look of shock spreading across his features. He had to control it. Had to force it down. Had to do literally anything to keep a straight enough face. Of course they hadn't done anything of that sort! They'd never even gotten to third base, let alone had a home run! He closed his eyes again and took deep, measured breaths as the warm air brought stability to his mental facilities.

"Yes, I can assure you that we have been quite safe," he said with a vice-like grip on his knees to keep him sober. The pain cut through the panic, and his tone came out measured, calm and controlled - the way he was taught. "I am happy to let you know that Gabe and I have never had sex, and do not intend to at any point in the near future. It may surprise you to hear this, especially considering the way in which society currently views sex, that I do in fact plan on waiting until marriage, and Gabriel has expressed a similar sentiment." His smile was pleasant. Cute, even. He was believable because he was telling the truth, although he wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't given the benefit of the doubt anyway.

Gabe was ready to panic. Why would his mother ask that?! Why did she have to be so... so embarrassing!? His face was red hot and he looked down at his lap in utter mortification. He had to say something, anything. Before he could open his mouth, however, Yuki had stepped up. His boyfriend had said it straight and handled the situation far better than he could have. In that moment, Yuki was the plant user's knight in shining armor. Gabe's eyes slowly shifted up to his mother's. How was she going to respond?

Catalina was surprised, to say the least. It had been such a concise answer, one of honest sincerity and genuine fact. The white-haired boy was quite serious and she was surprised at Gabriel's supposed agreement with the idea of saving themselves for marriage. The idea of two actually becoming betrothed flashed in her mind. If their relationship lasted to that point, she would be happy to include Yuki in the family officially.

"I'm glad to hear that, Yuki, Gabriel. I am aware that teenagers are more prone to... certain mindsets but it's clear that you have taken a mature approach to this." She smiled, then turned to Gabe and spoke in rapid Spanish. <"Gabriel, I expect you to do to the same. Don't you dare pressure your boyfriend into anything inappropriate or I will tan your hide raw. Do you understand?"> Her gaze narrowed ever so slightly, ideally unnoticeable by Yuki but Gabriel would know the look. She saw the faint nod in response before turning back to the other boy.

"Well, wonderful. Go ahead and enjoy your hot chocolate, boys, and then Gabriel can walk you home, Yuki. He's helping me open the shop tomorrow so it's gonna be an early morning for the both of us."

Yuki smiled pleasantly as the Spanish went right over his head once more. He picked out a word or two that sounded similar enough to French - something about hope, inappropriate and listening? The look on Gabe's face spoke volumes more than the actual words, though. He almost looked...scolded. Rebuffed, perhaps. Like he'd been humbled. It was still a cute expression.

Yuki grinned as dinner was tidied up and he got to exit the apartment with a sweet farewell to and from Catalina. They had argued a little about whether Gabe would have to accompany Yuki - the boy hadn't wanted to cause any further trouble for the Vega family - but had reached a compromise with Ace dropping Gabe back home after the walk. (He had skilfully negotiated said compromise with a sulky expression and crossed arms.)

"Alone at last," he cried with a triumphant expression the moment they exited the apartment complex. He couldn't help but steal a kiss from Gabe, the two of them leant against the wall as he did what he'd wanted to do for months now. Their makeout was short, cute and sweet, yet it was enough to help him feel more than full. (And that wasn't just because Catalina had forced him to eat way beyond his stomach's current capacity.)

"I'm so glad we can finally do this. In earnest." His eyes shone in the moonlight as he took the face of his boyfriend into his hands and tucked a stray strand of dark hair behind his ear. "I've missed you a lot."

Gabe gave a small wave as he followed Yuki out. That had gone much better than he had expected. He certainly wasn't going to complain, though. It had been way too stressful. He beamed at the quick kiss, returning it with just as much excitement. "I missed you, too. So much." Gabe whispered back, eyes locked on his partner's as a sheepish smile formed. "This wasn't quite the way I had planned on introducing you to my mom and Diego, but it worked out well. Of course Diego was a little pain in the butt and my mom was way too nosy and embarrassing but... again, could have gone worse."

He intertwined his hand with Yuki's as they walked, making sure he kept a nice even pace with his boyfriend. There was no rush for the two to get to the Hayashi house, especially since the plant user wanted as much time as he could get from the evening. There would be other days, sure, but this was a very important one.

Upon their arrival, Gabe made sure to steal another kiss from Yuki (well, several kisses, but no one needed to know) and eventually said their good nights. Ace drove him home, as promised, and the whole drive home left him with the thoughts of the future and what it could bring. Their six month anniversary was coming up soon, after all. He'd have to think of something nice for them to enjoy.
