((Lol))
Laetus smiled and patted her head. "You might be on to something there. I've single handedly put more than one buffet out of business." From anyone else, it would sound like a joke, but it seemed he was dead serious.

"Do you have a portal in your stomach?" Maddie laughed, sitting upright so she wasn't all up in his personal business. That was more for her benefit than his. "That's insane! I wish I could eat that much. Food tastes so good, who could want to stop eating?"

"That's just as likely as your black hole theory, honestly." He laughed. "All I know is I can eat a lot more than the average person."
After a few moments, he opened a portal and pulled out an empty pizza box, putting their leftovers inside and then popping it back through.
"Well, now that we've eaten, anything else you'd like to do?"

"I would say we could go back the cake, but we already ate." Maddie laughed and looked out the large windows of the pizza place. "Could we go to the beach? The beach is super fun! Unless you don't like getting your clothes wet, or having sand between your toes."

Laetus nodded. "Sounds good. The beach is lovely at night."
He plucked a few bills from his pocket and set them on the table before opening another portal next to their table. He could have floated around, but he waited for her to go through first.
On the other side, one would find themselves on a boardwalk, overlooking the ocean. At this point in the evening, the moon was large in the sky and stars had taken over anywhere its light didn't touch. The moonlight would shimmer on the water as the waves lapped up against the shore. To the right of the portal were stairs down to the beach.

Maddie didn't hesitate this time to go through his portal. She hadn't realized how late it had become; she was having so much fun.

Maddie was mesmerized by the moonlight and the waves. She would have called it magical, but that word had lost some of its luster here, where everything was magical.

She loved over her shoulder to see if Laetus was there. "It's gorgeous!" Maddie gasped. She had seen beaches before, but she couldn't remember walking along one during the night. It was a whole new place when the moon was out.

Suddenly, she had the urge to change and run along it. To see where the sand would take her and to narrowly miss the waves as they lapped at her paws. But that would have been rude. It did give her an idea, though.

"We should fly together sometime," Maddie said suddenly, as if from nowhere.

Laetus drifted in after her. It was truly a lovely view, but he had wandered here late plenty of times. He smiled while watching her react to the view. He kinda wished he could see it for the first time too... Well, there's still a whole world he hasn't seen.
He was cut from his daydream about traveling when she asked her question. He happily nodded to the idea.
"Sounds great to me."

Maddie grinned at him through the darkness. The moon outlined the side of her face. Somehow, the silver light managed to make the night more comforting than mysterious, but maybe that was in part due to the calming sound of waves.

Maddie turned, and half ran half jumped along the beach. She felt the familiar tingle in her spine that signified her change. She held out her arms and as she did feathers fanned from them. Her transformation wasn't painful; it worked like art, one minute she was a girl and the next she was a raven, half skidding across the ground.

In the moment, the details were hard to focus on, but to those with a keen eye for detail, the change wasn't quick like a blink. The magic moved like ink over her skin, coloring it with fur or feathers and consuming her before her body would completely alter.

The raven looked back and cawed impatiently at Laetus. Even a Maddie raven was an impatient, pushy creature, it seemed.

Laetus laughed. "Didn't think you meant now." He said more to himself than to her. He shrugged and 'jumped' over the railing on the boardwalk, letting himself get close to landing before rushing over to her, selling the whole 'jump' illusion.
"Lead the way." He said to her, slowly drifting upward.

Maddie's feathers ruffled, and she started with a run, stretching her wings out and soaring into the sky. Flying was fun. Way more fun than it should have been. She was very lucky not to have a fear of heights.

She positioned herself to fly over the black water of the sea, looking down stupefied. It was like something you might see in a painting.

She wasn't paying lots of attention to where she was going. She had no place in mind, all she knew is that she wanted to take flight and feel the air between her feathers.

She glanced back to make sure Laetus was still visible. If he were, she would again squawk at him.
