Could you have blamed her for being a little bored in her cellblock? Most of the prisoners there were boring, anyway - some of them were mad psycho, others were really skeevy, and a few were just straight-up dreariens. What a bunch of boring people.

So, technically, it wasn't her fault that she'd gotten bored enough to walk up the walls of her cell and plant herself on the ceiling. It was so easy, too - between her lightening the gravity and her sucker toes, the wall had been a piece of cake to climb. The only problem was, now that she actually was on the ceiling, everything was upside down, and her brain pressed on the top of her head, and it was just unpleasant in general. On the plus side, she could see from where she sat that the guard, a giant alien, was stationed right next to an electric panel. Hmmm.... interesting. One arm scratched her head. Another rubbed her chin. A pair sat on her hips.

"Skizze, I'm bored," she lamented out loud to no one.

Maybe the shipyard would be more exciting. She stood up on the ceiling and nearly cracked her skull when she bumped it against the person in her room below her, letting out a surprised cry.

Roaming the shipyards was something Azlin had taken up as a way to clear her mind. And today the weather was not really any different to any other day ... overcast with the sun just barely cutting through the clouds at short intervals. The only difference was the slightly noxious wind - that seemed to a constant - was blowing away from the city, giving its inhabitants a much-welcomed break from its toxic fumes.

"Dark sun hallowed by the fade. Our debt, they left to be paid," she sang and hummed softly to herself as she climbed very nimbly over rocks making her way back to the city. It was a song that she identified with greatly. It hit home even though she knew it wasn't about CES - V - 13, but she felt that it could be.

Or at least, it would have been a person if Ianthe could have guessed - the thing she smacked into was the wall. She released her sucked toes and fell down onto her butt. Which... ow. Rubbing her head and thanking the lucky stars that she hadn't managed to break her skull, she headed out to the shipyard, mumbling about her hurting head.

It was overcast. She'd always hated overcast days because they kinda toned down the flying back at the Academy. Something about visibility. Who cared what the visibility was when you had a simulation of invaders literally shooting at you? But at least it wasn't raining. Yon climbed over a few big, misshapen lumps of rock. The air was less noxious now - the wind blew in her face, which was oddly comforting.

"Dark sun hallowed by the fade. Our debt, they left to be paid,"

The song, almost lost in the wind, seemed familiar. Not only the song's plight, so similar to most prisoners' reason for being here, but the voice was familiar, too. She saw why as soon as she climbed the next rock - a young woman was climbing in the opposite direction, humming and singing to herself. Long, flowing blue hair.

"Azlin!"

Azlin froze and stopped her singing when she heard her name as it was carried upon the wind. Looking around her guardedly, she automatically gripped the knife she kept hidden under her robes.

Even though the city where she lived was not normally as dangerous as it could be, Azlin's experience growing up on the prison planet had been fraught with uncertainty, and casual violence, and it was best not to let one's guard down.

Finally spying the tall figure familiar figure, Azlin let out a sigh of relief and let go of the knife she carried.

"Yon," she called out as she picked up her long robes and clambered over the rocks to where the young female was. "What are you doing out here?" Azlin asked curiously.

Yon didn't even blink at Azlin reaching for her knife - she'd known her fellow prisoner long enough to expect it. She even thought it was practical here. There was, like any other prison she'd been to, a lot of violence around here. So yeah, Yon didn't really blame Azlin. She just waved one of her arms and used the other eight to help herself over the rocks. It must have been quite the unsettling sight.

"What are you doing out here?"

"I just got bored, so I left. I figured a trip to the shipyard would offer some more fun." The purple alien shrugged her topmost shoulders, picking up a rock. "Any of the ships in the training yard free? I know they don't go anywhere, but... it's nice to live a little."

"No, most of them are still docked or their hulls are rotted out. They look like they'd sink if anyone tried to go anywhere now ..." Azlin said as she looked at Ianthe while pulling her robes tighter around her.

"You know, they say they used to try to fish the waters... " Azlin said as she looked toward the dark murky water. "But supposedly they stopped because almost everything they pulled out of the water was inedible," she told her as she eyed the bleak horizon.

"I hate this planet, Yon," Azlin admitted with a tiny sigh. "Nothing thrives here, just despair..."

Then after a moment, Azlin looked at Ianthe, once again a bit guarded. "Remember Nero...?" she asked as she looked around them - more out of habit, and fear someone was listening.

"He helped me escape those skizzards at the Den," she said referring to the place where she used to "work".

"That's sad. Even the ships here are boring and dusty and broken. Just like everything else here. The sad part is, I could fix them if I had enough materials, but -" she cut herself off, sighing and staring into the murky black of the waves around her. Azlin told her there used to be fish in those waters, but obviously not anymore - she was fairly certain she would die if she tried swimming in them, too. Even the boats did - their hulls were indeed cracked and rotten or floating listlessly.

"I hate this planet, Yon," Azlin admitted with a tiny sigh. "Nothing thrives here, just despair..."

"Yeah,"
Yon sighed, "I know. I've only been here, what, three solar cycles? I already hate this place. It's too big and too small and it doesn't work at all like how I thought it would. The guards aren't even that attentive. They just... keep us here and forget. When I figure out how to get out of here... I'm definitely breaking out at least half this planet."

She was talking so much that she didn't notice at first, but Azlin was asking her something. So obviously she shut up. "Remember Nero?"

Oh right. Nero... was that the fish guy? Or - oh, right. That was that weird alien with t he yellow hair. He'd helped Azlin out of the Den - a disgusting place, honestly. "Yeah," she replied, confused and lowering her voice. "What about him?"

Azlin had been listening carefully as Ianthe rambled on, and maybe it was the fact that they talked about repairing the boats if they had the tools, or that they were planning to escape ...and take others with them. Or maybe it was a combination of everything that made her decide to confide in them...

"Yes, Nero.. " Azlin replied solemnly as she pulled up her hood to shroud herself against the wind. "He is what you would call a privateer..." she remarked cautiously, preferring not to outright call him a space pirate.

"He is looking for people to help him repair something him and I found when we were out scavenging the other day," she told Ianthe.

"Just come outright and say he's a pirate. This is a prison, we've all either done or have had some terrible things done to us. It won't shock anyone. So this pirate guy's collecting a repair person, huh."

Hmmm. On the one hand, she'd only met Nero, what, like five times on her stay on the planet? She didn't know if he was trustworthy or not. He could easily use the thing she was fixing to shoot her or kill her, or anyone else. Unsurprisingly, crime was a problem here. And there was as much of a possibility of damaging the thing she was trying to fix. Then again... it was way too boring and depressing on the planet, and if it helped, maybe she could escape using it...

"What did he find?" she whispered conspiratorily.

"You are right," Azlin said as she looked at Yon and nodded before continuing. "Nero is a pirate, and, well, we found an abandoned space ship that had been buried under a whole bunch of garbage."

"We think one of the storms underearthed it somehow," she explained as she pulled on the gloves she was wearing.
