Topher stepped out of the car quickly and stood, looking around him silently. He stopped as the Cabby yelled at him to hurry up, and he winced, yanking his bags out of the cab, and shutting the door. His fare had been pre paid, so as soon as the door was closed, the cab peeled away, leaving Topher standing there, taking in the almost silence.

He sighed, a small smile finding it's way onto his face. It was quiet here. He could live with this noise. It wasn't deafening like in the city. He looped one bag over his shoulder, grabbing the other and dragging it through the snow. His parents had said something about Nikki being here, but even though no one else knew, Topher knew that his sister didn't open letters from the family. She only opened ones from Topher, and they'd rushed him off so fast he hadn't had a chance to write and tell her he was coming. He'd find her eventually, but for now, he was going to enjoy the peaceful noises.

He dragged his bags over to the lawn, and once he was a fair distance onto the turf, he sat down, drawing his knees to his chest, looking out silently at his new surroundings.

Tsim began to walk by him toward a large rock he looked at him but didn't say a word as he sat down on a rock and just watched him blinking a few times his white eyes trailing him up and down

Topher had heard the other boy long before he'd approached, and he simply returned the boy's silent look, completely fine with not saying anything. He could hear the other boy breathing loudly (though it was barely hearable to anyone else), and he automatically slowed his breathing so that it was quieter. The less noise he himself created, the more able to focus on other things he was.

He really hoped that this school would have some insight on how to control his hearing, so that he could lead a normal life like his mind was. He subconciously took in the negative space around the boy, surprised a bit at what a good picture it would make. The composition was perfect. But he still remained silent.

The older Hotaru sister exited the school building a few minutes later. Brown hair was pulled back as it always was, with those two, free locks hanging in front of her shoulders. Her gloved hands were in the pockets of her black coat, and she looked around. She didn't really care about the snow, and in fact, she didn't really care about any of the surroundings here.

There was somewhat of a scowl upon her face, just like there almost always was. It took a while to notice it, though; but it wasn't like she even cared. The seventeen-year-old walked through the snow until she noticed the two younger males. Great, grand, splendid. Oh, how she loved being around people... not. She looked at the two of them, eyes narrowing a bit as she did so. The one with the bags looked to be a bit older than the one sitting on the rock, though she couldn't really tell. She believed that they were both new here, though, since she had never seen either of them around the building. Even if she hadn't been here long herself, wouldn't she have at least noticed one of them in the past?

So, she decided to give the both of them that beautiful welcome that she gave most new students. "Well, well, well..." Adelina began. "New students, I'll assume? Well isn't that just spectacular. So why are you guys here? Or don't you have any really unique reasons?" Her voice was cold, and she took her hands out of her pockets so that she could fold her arms over her chest. She looked between the two of them, the faintest hint of a smirk upon her lips.

One nice thing about having good hearing was that he knew where people were. He'd steeled himself, just in case she spoke, but he still winced as she spoke. To him, it was kind of like listening to nails on a chalk board. He glanced up at her meeting her eyes with eyes of equal steel. He collected exactly what he was going to say in his mind before he said it, voice quiet. "Somehow, I don't think it's any of your business." he'd managed to speak clearly, without stuttering or speaking too fast, and as quiet as his voice was, it matched her coolness down to the exact tone.

Adelina looked at the younger boy — Tsim — , her smirk widening somewhat when he didn't answer. "Cat got your tongue?" she asked him, shaking her head. She didn't really care if he stayed silent, she really didn't. To be completely honest, she would be perfectly happy ignoring the child.

She turned to the other boy, wondering if his reaction would be the same. It seemed to her that it took him a while to respond, and was somewhat surprised when he had actually done so. A look of surprise never came to her face though, and she merely continued looking at him.

"Somehow, I don't think it's any of your business."

An eyebrow raised somewhat. Really? Well, perhaps he was right, but she was only trying to make pleasant conversation. Alright, maybe not pleasant exactly... but conversation nonetheless. "Well, forgive me for asking if it isn't," she said. "I'm just curious. I mean, I know we're all here because of our special little gifts, but I was hoping some of us were more interesting than that. Oh, well, maybe I was wrong." She shrugged her shoulders, going silent for a few moments. She didn't really care if they had interesting reasons for being here, honestly.

"So," she began, "if you won't tell me your little reasons for being here other than your powers, what ARE your powers?" Adelina was almost expecting the kid that had spoken to say that asking what their powers wasn't any of her business either, but she didn't really care. She had a right to ask.

Tsim didn't say anything...he knew what his powers were but he of course never said anything anyway...so he just stared and blinked a couple more times at her

Topher was quiet again for a moment as he collected his words in his mind again. "You first." He managed to say it exactly how he'd planned to. A challenge. As he spoke, he smirked a little bit in return, raising an eyebrow slightly. He was good at reading people. He always had been. And what he read in her voice was that she wanted to catch them out. He didn't like people like that.

Adelina looked at Tsim again. Still not responding? Well, she still didn't care, though it bothered her somewhat. Was he deaf? Could he speak? She didn't know, but she was tempted to ask. And, being the person she was, she decided to do so. "What? Can't hear? Can't talk?" she asked him. "When someone's talking to you, it's polite to respond." She rolled her eyes. Talking to the boy probably wasn't worth the effort.

"You first."

She turned her attention back to Topher. "And me telling my powers first will prove... what?" she asked, an eyebrow raising just a tiny bit. She decided she might as well; she honestly didn't care if people here knew her powers. It wasn't like the information could be used against her, right? Even if it could, she didn't think anyone here hated her enough to actually do that. And even if they did actually try to do that... she still didn't care.

"I'm an ice elementalist," she told the two of them. "Happy now?"
