Zora was about to defend herself, explain why... but stopped herself from saying anything. Rory was correct. She had done something quite foolish, and could not argue with that. It had been a good lesson, and one she mustn't ever forget. Her life was not the same as it was before, and she desperately needed to remember that.

"I understand," was all she said, "And yes, you are right. I should not rely so heavily on my security detail," she said as she gazed around her, having the feeling her bodyguard was not too impressed with her at the moment.

"My magic? Well, I can normally move from place to place magically, and I guess you'd say I possess elemental magic," she said as she thought about them, "I can manipulate water in all its forms," she explained, wondering why she wanted to know.

Normally, to imply that she couldn't do so now? Interesting. "Teleportation?" she asked to clarify, because if that were the case...

Rory was good at picking things up. It was how she knew Zora was still feeling wary and probably wondering why the hell Rory was asking about her powers. Not like Lorelai would keep it a secret from her. She needed to be relaxed for half of this to sink in any way.

"I'm asking because the aim of self-defense is incapacitated and get out. Not stay and destroy. What abilities and skills you have are important. They determine how you're going to incapacitate an opponent and how you have to adapt to do so."

Rory approached Zora, keeping a casual pace and set her hands on the other woman's shoulders. "Firstly, relax. Even if you're feeling tense or afraid always remember to keep your body relaxed. If you plan on moving quickly — and as a general rule, you should — keep your weight to the balls of your feet." She waited for Zora to follow her instructions before she'd continue.

"Yes..." Zora said to the teleportation comment and followed her with her eyes. Hearing Rory talk, only made Zora somewhat more nervous. Probably because she had not told her the full truth and was expecting her to ask her to do something that she was not sure would work. Debating with herself, she knew that for once, she needed to be honest about her powers.

"What if we were to assume I don't have any magic powers? It just might be easier..." she said as she looked at Rory, and quickly added, "I do have magic if that's what you are wondering, it's just highly unstable and has been for a while. " she confessed with a grim look.

When Rory put her hands on her, and order her to relax, Zora tried to do as she was told. Though it was not easy. Nodding at her words, she instinctively looked at her feet, saw her heels and kicked them off, "Sorry, shoes were in the way..."Zora grinned sheepishly as she then followed Rory's instructions and stood as she was told.

Rory nodded. That was a good start, so long as Zora didn't have, say, weird flexibility or mobility powers. Those were really useful for defense.

Zora still felt tense in the shoulders, even as she put her feet in the right place and seemed to be more light than before. Rory walked around her to better check the stance and to correct Zora's posture.

"Breathe out, lose the tension in your shoulders and don't stand so straight. You have to be ready to move at a seconds notice."

And when that was out of the way Lorelai stepped back in front of Zora. "Universally, learning how to disarm someone with a gun is a good start. Most people make the mistake of being within arms reach when pointing a gun at someone. I can't give any general pointers on magic, it varies so much here, but if you have a specific scenario in mind."

Letting go of her breath like Rory told her, Zora realised that she had been holding it in - or at least not breathing properly. She hadn't realised how tense and worked up she was. This was going to be somewhat more difficult than she expected it to be. Focusing on Rory's instructions, Zora rolled her shoulders a bit to release the tension a bit. Adjusting her body and her posture.

"I have never had a gun pointed at me before," she said as she met Rory's eyes a bit uncertain, "The last battle I was in, magic was flying everywhere... oh, and there were arrows too," she remembered, having had Ain to protect her.

"I guess a situation might be somebody coming at me unexpectedly... " she considered, "from work or as I arrive at home." trying to think of places she might be most vulnerable because there could be nobody around.

"Arrows but not bullets?" Rory laughed a little at that. "Alright, I knew a guy who used arrows. Magical arrows, but still."

God, Lorelai hated magic. She hated dodging it and fighting it, it was way too adaptive and there wasn't a lot of ways to explain to someone new how to defend against it. What was worse, in this universe, Rory recognized there was no one-way magic worked. Ugh. Annoying.

But the scenario was easy enough. "Okay. Relax, I'm going to step behind you here a second." And Rory did, then she wrapped one of her arms around Zora's neck. "Now, put one hand above my elbow and one below. When someone grabs you like this in an attempt to choke you, your goal is not to tear their arm away but to push it to your collarbone."

Zora smiled and chuckled at Rory's reaction to the arrows comment. Yes, it seemed ridiculous in some ways. The island was a place of constant surprises. It seemed "the normal" was anything but.

Zora did as she was told, and felt Rory's arm around her neck. Somewhat instinctively, Zora did what she asked, she placed her hands on her arm and started pulling down towards her collarbone feeling the resistance of Rory's arm as she did so, it was not an easy task, as Rory was stronger than she was.

"Hold on," Rory laughed when Zora began to struggle. "The hold is good, now pull against it with your body and make sure my arm stays at your collarbone with your hands. You're going to want to move forward and to the side to step out of my hold. This is good for people who're stronger than you in battle."

And Rory waited for her to do it, taking the first time of this slow. They'd speed up the process in a few seconds, but it was good to have Zora understand how it worked before trying to do it on reflex.

"Okay," Zora nodded, trying to understand exactly what was wanted of her. She took a second to get her balance and bearings, then did as Rory told her. She pulled against her while moving forward and stepping to the side as she released herself from Rory's hold.

"Wow, I did it..." she said to Rory, wide-eyed, a bit amazed that she actually had been able to get free somewhat easily, though she had a feeling Rory was being gentle with her to start.

Rory grinned. "Yeah, that was the easy one. We're going to try again — for real. Don't lock up and don't hesitate." And in a second, Rory was behind Zora with her arm locked around Zora's throat and the other hand helping to stabilize the hold at the wrist. No warning. No waiting.
