adryan with eye.PNGRich people hosting gala's was one of the best things in the world for a thief and Adryan was no exception to enjoying them. But for him, he enjoyed more than just being able to scope out the area. He enjoyed watching. The atmosphere. Mingling. Several times he had met future clients this way.

Waltzing around the party, Adryan had talked his way into with a sly tongue as he always did. He even looked the part. Nice black jacket with a white shirt underneath. A dark emerald tie adorning his neck made his hazel green eyes pop a little more color than normal. "Why always with the monkey suit?"

Adryan made sure to keep his voice low as he sipped a flute of champagne. "Because we have to fit in. You know this."

He nodded kindly to several people as his eyes scanned all his surroundings, looking for any security systems, magical runes, anything that would cause him issues at a later date. Adryan wasn't here with anything as a target, but if opportunity presented itself....

"This is boring. Find a rich couple to chat up."

"Fine..." Adryan said reluctantly as he began to look for an appropriate couple he could get in with.

Hah'en's battle at the arena had worked, because she had received more job offers than before. So much that she didn't have to precisely count the prize of every purchase she bought in fear that she didn't have enough money. Hah'en had missed not having to worry about money, her previous lifestyle hadn't been overly lavish but Hah'en still liked to pamper herself. Now she could again.

This job was one that had been secured through said arena battle. Hah'en was to act as extra security for this gala, making sure that no suspicious individuals caused any trouble. Hah'en had been provided with a proper attire: a formal pantsuit along with a pair of sunglasses. Although Hah'en wasn't currently wearing said sunglasses, they inhibited her vision, so they were neatly folded in her breast pocket.

The first thing Hah'en had done was secure a nice and secluded corner from the second floor, which was open on the middle so she could gaze down into the first floor. Hah'en was shrouded in a thin cloud of her own mist, so no one could see her at first glance. A waste of a festive outfit but what could she do?
Thus far Hah'en hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary, just the same high society schemery and socializing. It didn't differ all that much from her own world's practices.

But the peaceful evening was interrupted, when Hah'en spotted a familiar-looking face in the crowd on the first floor. A face she had hoped she wouldn't have to see again, at least not while she was working. Outside work was a different thing. But here, in a gala whose success was what her paycheck depended on? No, absolutely not.
Hah'en frowned and immediately moved to the first floor. Via the stairs, of course, and at a reasonable speed. She didn't want to cause a scene.
Hah'en didn't approach the thief immediately, that would be foolish. Instead she lurked in a blind spot for him, keeping track of his movements and predicting where he would go. And once he approached a spot where Hah'en could grab him without attracting any unnecessary attention she moved.

Hah'en moved through the crowd with purpose, her movements fluid and subtle. And once she reached the thief she promptly grabbed him by the arm and dragged them both to a close-by side hallway, closed from the general gala guests. Hah'en had made sure beforehand it was empty. And once Hah'en was certain she was in the clear she slammed Adryan against the wall and nailed him with a firm and subtly angry eyes.
"I clearly underestimated your determination to be the bane if my existence if you found a way to slither your way even in here. I forbid you to try anything during my shift, and if you do I will track you down and take the amount of pay I lost from your cold dead corpse."

Adryan had just found a couple he was about to 'introduce' himself to. They were the perfect balance of sober and inebriated. They would be open to talking to him from being a little loose, but also coherent enough to remember him. Adryan also happened to spy a ring on the man's hand that he had stolen from another about a year ago. So he deduced the man dealt in more unsavory business.

Right as he had began to approach them, someone grabbed his arm and very quickly pulled him away into a side hallway. Nux had noticed who it was first, "You're in trouble now." Adryan didn't respond and didn't know what he had meant until he was slammed up against the wall.

He locked eyes with a familiar set of deep blues. Hah'en. Just his luck. He would have to be careful now. Was honestly better to just case the place while she was here. A smile came on his face as she threatened him. He had started getting used to the threats at this point.

"Well hello to you too."

Adryan clearly didn't have the slightest intention to take this seriously, judging from the smile on the man's face as Hah'en quite literally threatened his life. Hah'en frowned, not loosening her grip on him the slightest but instead pressing him against the wall harder.
"This is not a greeting, this is a threat, petty thief. There is only one reason for you to be here, and I am telling you to not do it."
Hah'en almost growled the last words, her voice coming from deep in her throat. If Adryan wasn't going to take this seriously Hah'en was just going to have to make him.
"Due to our connection I will give you one chance to sincerely promise me not to do anything that would threaten my paycheck or reputation. But if you play games with me I will not be merciful and merely throw you out the closest window."
And from Hah'en's expression Adryan would most probably see that she was dead-serious. Hah'en was not going to let one above-average thief ruin everything just when her career was looking up.
"And believe me, I will be able to tell if you're lying."

Hah'en pushed him harder into the wall making him grimace slightly. His smile, however, never came off his face. He got the threat. Adryan knew she was more than capable of seriously injuring him if not worse, and would not hesitate to do it.

He couldn't help but give a small chuckle as she stated he could only be here for one reason. She really underestimated him in that moment. It had to be the fact that she was surprised to see him there at the Gala.

"Just one you think? You aren't the only one that needs clients."

He slipped just the one reason to her. She could more than likely place the others and it didn't need to be said. An eyebrow raised as she mentioned their apparent connection.

"Connection eh? You want me to pinky promise you?"

Hah'en didn't answer or react to Adryan's words or mockery that didn't have to do with her demands. Hah'en had no intention to get lured into a conversation, no matter how hard the thief would try. So, Hah'en's expression didn't even flinch, and she kept her grip firm and strong. And while she was at it she let her mist surround them both, in case the thief decided to try something funny.

The term Adryan used, "pinky promise", was unknown to Hah'en. She didn't let it show that she didn't know what Adryan had said, but somehow the way he said it made Hah'en feel like he was mocking her. What was this pinky promise anyway? What kind of promise was it that involved one's pinkies?
But Hah'en had no intention to ask or play along with Adryan, so she allowed a small evil smile rise to her face.
"Yes, I would in fact want you to pinky promise me."
Hah'en said back, and then took a pause as she summoned her scythe with her free hand, bringing its blade close to Adryan's hands.
"I will take your pinkies as a token of your trustworthiness. It sounds like a good way to seal a promise to me."

"Easy on the suit. Don't wanna wrinkle it."

Her words came across his ears as the scythe appeared in her free hand. His eyes cut over to it as he pulled his hands into each other protecting his pinkies. "Ohhhhh I like that pinky promise."

"You would....That only happens if I break the pinky promise..."

He had first responded to Nux and then addressed Hah'en again. Hazel green eyes looked down at the hand holding him to the wall.

"I promise I'm not going to do anything to get you fired. I'm mainly here looking for clients."

The words were the truth. It was strange. Adryan had actually spoke very honestly in every meeting the two had so far. It was totally different than anyone else he had met before. His eyes looked back up to her, studying her face.

Adryan seemed to have a habit of talking to himself, even in a situation like this. Was it a nervous habit? Hah'en couldn't imagine the thief having such an obvious nervous habit that would lay his weaknesses bare.
Nevertheless, Hah'en only raised her brow in challenge and didn't move her scythe, more than ready to cut off a finger or two if that meant her message got across. Hah'en could behead a man without letting a single drop of blood on the ground, it wasn't any different with cutting off pinkies.

Finally Adryan dropped the facade and gave Hah'en a promise. She narrowed her eyes, looking for signs of lies. Surprisingly, she found none. Yes, Adryan was an experienced liar, but Hah'en could see through lies as easily as some breathed air. And she made a judgement, that Adryan told no lies. Thus, Hah'en slowly loosened her hold and made her scythe disappear.
"You break your word, and my blade will swing at your fingers."
Hah'en said once more, but most of the threat was gone. It was merely a reminder.

Hah'en stepped away and let her scythe disappear. She straightened her own suit, it followed her body lines too well and got easily wrinkled. Now that Hah'en and Adryan had reached an agreement she took him in; dressed just as well as the rest of the guests. And since Hah'en had a working pair of eyes and a brain she admitted that Adryan looked good. The man was handsome, that was nothing less but a fact.
"Look for your clients, pickpocket few socialites and begone before my shift ends, Adryan. Your mere presence here threatens my employment prospects."

Now that he wasn't being pressed into a wall and threatened by a scythe, Adryan let out a relaxed sigh. His hands came up to adjust the jacket where it should be the same time Hah'en straightened her own suit. Adryan allowed his eyes to linger on her a moment.

He couldn't help but admire her shape. Slender. Elegant. She moved with a grace that was undeniably attractive, and only emphasized in the outfit she was currently wearing. Adryan was actually surprised he was so openly admiring her that he almost missed her comments.

"I gotta leave before that? I was hoping you'd share at least one dance with me."

He crack a mischievous smile.

"Dancing with old married women all night gets trying."

Although Hah'en was aware of Adryan's gaze on her she paid it no mind and didn't comment on it. She was used to people both looking and not looking at her. She could be unseen when she wanted but that didn't deny the fact that when Hah'en was seen she matched many people's standard of beauty.
Besides, Hah'en had looked at Adryan too so she had no right to judge.

"You cannot possibly think that I'd dance with you while I am working, or outside work, for that matter."'
Hah'en let out a exasperated yet subtly amused huff at just the thought. She could dance and could even enjoy it with the right partner, but Hah'en couldn't imagine Adryan being that partner. He would most probably just keep talking through the whole thing and Hah'en preferred to enjoy dancing in peace and silence.
"Try to find your selfless side and imagine what a joy it is for those women to dance with a...handsome young man such as yourself. Make a self-sacrifice."
Hah'en purposefully took a pause in the middle to look Adryan up and down before calling him a handsome young man, as if she was doubting the fact.
"If you'll excuse me, I will resume doing my job."
Hah'en said, and headed back to the gala. Though as she was about to exit the side hallway she noticed that it was actually a pretty good spot to keep an eye on both the first and the second floor. So, she paused in the shadows right before entering the gala area and shrouded herself in a thin cloud of mist, resuming what she had been doing earlier.
