Charlie snorted as the boy sunnily replied to her as if he had noticed nothing wrong. Hadn't he ever heard of sarcasm before? She watched as he pulled up his shirt and proudly displayed the thick bandages underneath, still not saying anything. He was disturbingly candid about his injuries. The few times she'd been kicked around, back before she was able to give as good as she got, she would have never dreamed of showing off her bruises like that. She looked away from the stark patch of white towards the sea, determined to ignore the boy.

Cool?! One eyebrow twitched angrily, and she struggled to remain calm. He was beaming sunnily up at her, as if he really meant what he was saying. "How am I cool, then? Weren't I just yellin' at you? What sort'o self-esteem do you have, sayin' things like that?"

"Alright, so I won't." She turned her attention from him, eyes narrowing in annoyance as he took her words at face value again. "So you don't have any powers at all, do you? What are you doing here, then? Your new 'mum' go to the school?" She asked, realizing too late that he'd answer as if it were an actual question and rolling her eyes in irritation.

"How am I cool, then? Weren't I just yellin' at you? What sort'o self-esteem do you have, sayin' things like that?"

Daniel thought about her words as she asked this, he did not really know what to reply to what she said. He did not really know why he thought she was cool, maybe because she seemed to be so brave, I mean she said what she wanted to say about anything even if it would hurt the person she said it to. "Because you are honest and you say what you think." he replied to her slowly and with a thoughtful voice. "I guess that is it, and I do not know about my own self-esteem I mean...well nothing" in fact he was not at all sure if he understood what she meant, but he did not want to seem stupid so he did not say anything.

He accepted that she did not want to tell about her power, that was up to her if she wanted to tell him or not. But the boy did not at all want tp push the woman around by asking over and over. He heard her words as she talked, why did she have to ask that?! He frowned a little. "I have powers to." he explained to her, it was a lie alright but he did not want her to know, because then she might tell others and that way they might want to send him away from the island and away from Selia. "She is not my mom, but yeah she is going at the school" he did not care if he had told her before, she asked so he replied to her.

She hummed in begrudging understanding, turning back to stare at the sea. "Well, you should try it sometime. Not sayin' what you think" - she squinted at him unkindly - "you already do that quite enough. But good dose of cynicism would do you good. Stop opening yourself up to harm. You're much too naïve, Daniel." She spoke his name as if it were an insult, dropping back down on the sand. It was apparent he wasn't going away; her only hope now was to make him less annoying. She certainly wasn't going to leave just because a five-year-old had kicked her in the shins.

"Oh, do you?" She droned, uninterested. Did the school accept preschoolers? Maybe they had a daycare system somewhere; she'd certainly not seen anyone as young as Daniel in the actual school itself. "No need to tell me your power, Daniel, I'm not particularly interested," She said, grinning lazily. "How old is your not-mum, Daniel?"

Daniel listened to her and the fact that she was mean when she talked did not really affect him much since he was used to that kind of talk from his parents in the past, such things did not really affect him at all. The boy took in her words and thought about them before he replied. "I see, well I will try to not talk to much about myself to quickly." he said to her and smiled a little. "Thanks Charlie." he did mean that, even if the woman was rude and mean and in many ways unkind, she did not seem as a bad person. Not bad like his own father kind of bad.

He nodded at what she said then, he prayed she did not ask what his power was. But then when she said she did not really care about it that much Daniel felt much more calm. Then she asked the question about Selias age and Daniel thought about it for a while, he tried to think of what her age was. "Well I do not really remember her age" he told slowly. "But I think she is close to 20, yeah something like that." he nodded a little as he said this, he was sure this was right of him to say.

She smiled toothily. "You're welcome, Daniel." At least the boy was open to constructive criticism... She wondered how he had died. She was almost certain he wasn't alive, although he appeared solid, and there wasn't any part of him that was even the slightest transparent. He was just too strange to be alive. She thought perhaps he'd been killed by his parents, or perhaps his not-mum wasn't as good a person as he thought. Still, she knew enough not to ask him. He didn't appear to know he was dead, and a lot of spirits got quite upset if she told them they were.

"Well, that's good." She drawled, dropping an arm over her eyes again. "She could be your legal guardian, hmm? She should adopt you, and then she could really be your mum."

((Lol, priceless! I loved this....really did.))

Daniel listened to her words as she talked and it made him happy when she did sound a little nicer. The boy looked around for a moment and then he sat down on the sand again and after a few seconds he laid down and looked up into the sky. "I wonder if the water if warm enough to take a swim? I mean I would take a swim if I could...but I can´t" he closed his eyes and did not really seem very bothered by this little fact, the truth was that he could not swim, but he did not tell that so the girl would have to guess the reason for herself.

He heard what she said about adopting and all that and the little boy sat back up again and looked at her and he looked very surprised and a little happy to. "You think she could be that? For real?" he asked and looked at her, he really would want that....but only if Selia wanted to to of course. He would have to talk with her later. "That would be awesome...like so cool." he smiled brightly at her.

((hee! Cool :3))

Charlie frowned, not so much as glancing as the boy sitting beside her. "'Course it's warm. If you can't swim, nothing stopping you from wading." She sat up, propping herself up with sand-covered arms. "I'll even watch you to make sure you don't drown," she said diplomatically. It wouldn't be a difficult job, if he was already dead.

She rolled her eyes dramatically. "That's what I just said, innit? If she wants you for a son, anyway." She found it was easier to speak to the ghosts as if they were alive, when she couldn't ignore them completely. When they got upset, they had a marked tendency to tear at their faces or start screaming wretchedly. At least Daniel hadn't done any of that when he'd been on the verge of tears. "Maybe I shouldn't be givin' you all these ideas..."

Daniel smiled at what she said. "Yeah I will do that" he said and calmly got to his feet again, he walked closer to the water and then he took of his shoes and socks, he also pulled up the legs of his pants. He then looked back at Charlie and gave the girl a friendly smile before he carefully took of the backpack before he began to walk out into the water. He smiled a little, yeah the water was not at all that bad and he watched his own feet though the clear liquid for a few seconds and he walked until the water came to his knee, then he turned and looked back at the new friend.

He listened to her voice as she continued to talk about the adopting thing. "I do not know if she would want that, but I can not do more then ask her." he told slowly as he began to watch some small fishes that was swiming close to him. But he still listened to the woman as she talked and replied at the same time as he watched the water. "Maybe, but I do not mind it Charlie, I mean I am more happy now then I have been in a while." he almost slipped at a rock but regained his balance before he would fall and the boy laughed a little and scratched himself in the back of the head. "Good thing with being so small is that most people do not seem to notice me at all when I walk in the city, I guess someone like me do not really attract much attention." he smiled a little and then he turned the eyes so that he looked at Charlie. "Grown ups are weird"

Charlie watched the boy wade with mild distaste. She certainly couldn't swim herself, now. Even if he was a ghost, she didn't think it would be altogether proper to go for a swim with him watching, ill-attired as she was. She yawned lazily, ruffling her wildly curly hair in an attempt to get some of the sand out.

"Doesn't take much then, does it?" She called over to him, laughing. "A fake mum and some girl yellin' at you: must be the secret of happiness."

So he was dead. Somehow knowing for certain let Charlie relax somewhat. She dug her toes into the sand, watching the boy play with a vague feeling of pity. Sure, he was incredibly annoying, but... No one deserved that. Not even Daniel. "Grown ups are weird." She echoed, squinting at him. She certainly wasn't going to be the one to tell him he'd been murdered or drowned or something.

((Do not forget out other topic to. :P ))

"Doesn't take much then, does it?" She called over to him, laughing. "A fake mum and some girl yellin' at you: must be the secret of happiness."

Daniel frowned a little at her words and tilted his head to the side as he looked at her, then he smiled a little. "I think that is different from time to time" he said with a friendly voice and a slight nod of his head. Yeah it was most likely that everyone had there own secret to happiness, his might be just what she had said. But then again Selia was more like his real mom then what his real mom had ever been to him. The boy yanwed a little and stretched his arms over the head before he looked up into the sky and smiled once more, it was a great day alright and the weather was nice and the water was warm, he was free from his dad and things was starting to get into the right track again.

He turned to her once more as she said what he had just said once more. "Yeah they really are weird" he said and nodded slowly before he bent down and felt on the water with his hands, he giggled a little and then he moved the hand to his cheek and felt the coolness of the water against his skin. After a few more moments Daniel began to walk back out from the water and back onto the sand again, he ruffled his own brown hair for a moment and then he scratched himself in the back of the head. "I think I would want to be a little like you when I grow up" he said with a smile.
