It was a quiet day after school. While many students had already retired to their dorms or went to hit the town, some stayed in the empty classrooms for solitude. In some wings, the air was deathly still. In one of the arts rooms however, a soft upbeat melody was playing. Its gentle cadence belonging to a ukelele.

Pollyanna had perched herself on top of the grand piano in the music room. Though visual art was more her style, she did have quite the proficiency in the dainty string instrument. That, and she was waiting for a painting she was working on in the other room to dry. So as the late spring breeze rolled in, so did the tune, carrying down the hall and echoing through the emptiness. Though she was alone for now, there were a few students passing by outside. It was open studio time after all, and students regardless of their talents had free range on some supplies and instruments. Music and art, Polly found, was a great bonding tool. And though she was alone, she was happy. For now.

Emily was relaxing in a quiet corner of one of the art rooms, hidden away from the eyes of passersby. A young woman hiding behind a notebook. Her pen scribbled away as it translated her thoughts onto the page. She was trying to solidify an idea for a project for one of her classes, though it was less artistic and more grounded in theory.

Her thoughtfulness was interupted as the sounds of the soft plucking of strings danced through the room. Her eyes glancing up from the page as if trying to spot the music in the air. Curious. Em hadn't heard an instrument like this before.

She found herself setting the notebook aside as she rose up from the floor. And soon was wandering the halls timidly, following the cadanced through the art wing in an attempt to find the source. Eventually she came to the room the music seemed to be eminating from, and Em was peeking around the door to try and sate her curiosity but not disturb the musican.

In a few more plucks and strums, Pollyana came to the conclusion of the little ditty she had composed. It ended on a soft high note, the tune giving way to be but an echo that carried itself into the hallway before dissipating in silence. She sighed happily, a bit of a hum lingering on the noise. But just as she began to relish the quietness, her sensitive hearing picked up the sound of footsteps by the entrance of the classroom.

"Hello?" She called out, before looking around. She then caught her eyes on someone standing just outside the entrance. They looked a little nervous, so Polly tried her best to be approachable. "Hi there! I wasn’t bothering you with this thing was I?" She asked as she raised the instrument to show it off. "Don’t be nervous, I promise I don’t bite!"

Emily jumped a little when she was spotted, more of an instinctual action then a guilty one, though she had been eavesdropping. "... Uh... U-Um... N-No... No, y-you weren't... Dist-sturbing me..."

She stepped more properly into the room, smoothing out her skirt a little and then fidgeting while staring at her hands rather then Pollyana. "I-I was just... It's v-very pretty... I-I-I was listening... I-Is all..."

By the inflection of her tone and the stuttering of her speech, Polly could tell that she had some hand in making her uncomfortable. To this, she began to fret. Had she accidentally scared this poor soul on accident? Polly didn’t think she was scary, nor did she try to be. So, her tone was warmed even more as she continued to address this stranger, who she hoped she could make a friend out of.

"Well, I’m just glad you enjoyed the music then. Thank you" She smiled, her fingers still ghosting over the strings to the instrument. "Do you play any instruments? Whatcha doing hanging around the art wing anyway?" She asked in a tone she prayed didn’t come off as accusatory. "Oh! Sorry, slipped my mind. My name is Pollyanna by the way, but you can call me Polly. What’s your name?"

"It w-was... Very p-pretty..." Emily repeated herself, then seemed to realize she had as blood rushed to her cheeks and her eyes turned towards the floor. "O-Oh, no... I don't p-play anything... I've... D-Dabbled, I guess... l-like most people b-but... not enough that I-I would say I play..."

She fidgeted a little bit, regaining her composure before glancing back at Polly with a small smile. "I-I'm Emily... I was j-just... just trying to... discern how to um... C-Convey an idea... B-Best medium and... all th-that... When I h-heard the music..."

Em licked her lips a little bit as she allowed her gaze to drift around the room. "... I-I'm sorry... I'm worrying you... I c-can go....."

Pollyanna smiled reassuringly. The girl seemed so nervous, even though Pollyanna was an easygoing, non-judgemental individual. She was just happy to have people come up to talk to her, for she honestly didn’t have too many friends. So she kept the conversation light, in attempts to keep the wandering stranger from disappearing.

"That’s okay! Just listening is good too. There’s some pretty easy instruments to pick up if you ever wanted to learn how to play something. I know there’s bins and bins full of plastic recorders in here somewhere..." She looked around, before remembering to focus on the other. She was a bit of a scatterbrain, after all.

"Emily! That’s a pretty name. Nice to meet you, Emily." What she said next however confused her a bit, conveyed physically by the gentle tilting of her head to the side. "Convey an idea through a medium? Is that your power?" She asked curiously. But as soon as she pressed forth the question, it seemed that Emily had had enough the interaction.

"No no no, you’re not worrying me..! Well, I mean, not in the sense that I want you to go away." Pollyanna took a breath. Perhaps she was a bit intimidating. "I’m sorry if I made you feel that way. Please stay, if you’d like."

Emily giggled a little bit while her eyes continued to dance around the room. "I... I wasn't e-ever really good w-with... Wind i-i-instruments... I a-always forget to... T-To breath..."

She tilted her head a little at Polly as the bat expressed her confusion. It took Em a second to understand herself. "Oh... N-No... I meant like... An a-artistic medium... Ch-Charcoal... O-Or ink... That s-sort of thing..."

"... O-Okey... I'll stay..." She glanced around before closing the distance a little bit. No need to keep conversing from across the room. "... M-My powers don't have to d-do with art... N-Not really... I-I have a few... Like um... I-I can taste e-e-em... Emotions..."
