Name: Alouette Vivienne D’Lenfer
Age: 17
Birthday: 3 April
Gender: Cisgender Female
Species: Human, Spirit Summoner
Class: High School
Grade: Sophomore- Grade 11
College Major: N/A
Appearance Description:
One’s first impression of Alouette is that she’s a petite girl, with a height of barely 5’2’’ (157.5 cm) and weighing a healthy 120 lbs (54.4 kg). Her lithe figure is best suited to speed and agility, and while she isn’t necessarily weak, her physical strength is nothing to write home about. She’s inherited her mother’s delicate, feminine features, though her pale tawny hair and heterochromatic eyes are completely her father’s- from far away, it’s difficult to even discern that her eyes are different colors, so close in shade are the warm green and blue of her right and left eyes respectively. Her hair is usually cut in a medium-length, layered bob with bangs running across her forehead. Alouette tends to use cute patterned clips when in class to keep the strands out of her face, but will otherwise do very little to style it beyond a good brushing. Her complexion is fair and even, burning immediately in the sun before it tapers off into a nice tan, though she tends to break out when she’s particularly stressed or during her time of the month. She has a beauty mark below her left eye, and rarely uses make-up save for the occasional swipe of flavored lip gloss along her lips. When outside of class, Alouette’s wardrobe consists of stylish, fairly chic clothing, favoring light, flowy, Boho-esque styles. In the cooler weather, her attire consists of stylishly oversized, comfy sweaters and leggings. This is mirrored in her choice of Academy uniform; during the winter months, she sports an Academy sweater and fleece-lined leggings beneath the skirt, otherwise wearing the typical, standard uniform with leggings of varying patterns.
Personality Description: At the very heart of things, Alouette is generally genial girl with a soft heart. She’ll go out of her way to help others, and though she sometimes can’t really do much to help, she’ll be an unending well of firm support and warm reassurance for those that need it. She has a staunch moral compass, though she has trouble standing up to others and tends to simply stay back until confrontations are over before moving in to offer her hand. That being said, she has a very short fuse, particularly when it comes to people or values she keeps close to her heart; Alouette will rarely, if ever, resort to violence, but she has a tongue of silver when she puts her mind to it and won’t hesitate to verbally rip someone to shreds, or even talk circles around them, should they anger her. When angry, her normally light accent will deepen to showcase her French roots, and if she's particularly pissed off, she might even start ranting in French itself.
She’s an adaptable sort, her natural intelligence augmented by her love of reading and learning, but with the curiosity of a cat, Alouette tends to find mischief wherever she goes, whether it be accidentally wandering where she shouldn’t be or pulling a harmless prank on peers she’s comfortable with. Innovative and steadfast, Alouette is a good friend to have, staunchly loyal to the bitter end, but with a temper to rival even the most irritable of people. She also has a very poor sense of organization- her room is a cluttered mess though she swears she knows where everything is, and her notebooks are just as terrible. Alouette also tends to be overly critical of herself and feels failures deeply, though it’s easy for close friends to snap her out of this single-minded negativity.
Powers: While Alouette is indeed a human, she has also inherited the ability to utilize magic from her father’s side of the family. Her specialization is in summoning spirits; while she knows the branches of magic in general, her skills and abilities in those areas will never amount to anything beyond knowing that they do indeed exist. At this current point in time, Alouette can only summon small, elemental sprites, and no more than five at a time, with spoken incantations- solely in French, as it is the language she learned them in and therefore the memory that her magic latches onto when summoning- imbued with her will and spiritual magic. She is hoping to work up towards the ten major spirits her father can summon, though as she does not have the hardened will or desire for battle, she is unable to summon fighter spirits. In theory, should she be in a life-or-death situation, Alouette might be able to summon a single, larger spirit for defense, but seeing as people are unwilling to really test that, it is simply a theory. She is instead content to summon her sprites to do simpler, quality-of-life tasks, like keeping her room warm with a team of fire and wind sprites, or entrusting a water sprite with watering the assortment of plants that reside on her window sill. The sprites that she summons are no larger than a grown man’s hand, and when flying about, they transform into little balls of light that flitter around. They also do not remain summoned for longer than 20 minutes at a time, with that time decreasing with each new sprite she summons- she can have one with her for the whole 20 minutes, or three for around 10 minutes, etc. That being said, she is attending the Academy to work on her magical/spiritual stamina while focusing on family magic-related lessons from her father when she goes home for long breaks.

Biography: Alouette Vivienne D’Lenfer was brought into the world on a rainy April morning, greeting loving parents Matthieu and Camille and doting older brother Marceau with shrill screams and a lot of flailing. She was brought to their sprawling French country home a few days later, and ever since then, was loved with every inch of her family’s heart. She wanted for nothing, as her father came from old money, but the potential to become a spoilt child was tempered by her dear mother, whose lower middle-class beginnings brought with it a sense of down-to-earth frugality and level-headedness. Her childhood was a happy one, given an extra magical edge from the spirits her father summoned, all ranging from good-natured playmates for the growing toddlers to stoic sentinels meant to guard his beloved family from harm.
Unfortunately, Alouette’s paternal grandparents, both semi-powerful elemental mages in their own right, began putting pressure on the small family of four when the little girl turned three. Her older brother, then eight, had yet to exhibit signs of having magic- eight was the usual age during which magical abilities made themselves known to these particular mages, and while there were a few late bloomers of a sort, it was rather uncommon for those of the D’Lenfer family-, and for the traditionally minded couple, the firstborn son not having the family abilities was scandalous and absolutely unacceptable. They needed someone gifted to carry on the family name, after all. For this reason, they weren’t quite as thrilled as they could have been when Alouette herself showed her magical aptitude a little before her eighth birthday. Still, Matthieu began explaining to his only daughter the reasons for the little spirits that seemed to appear randomly around her, purposefully unintentionally teaching his son as well since the boy very obviously eavesdropped on these lessons. The man didn’t do much beyond teaching Alouette how to control her power to keep the spirits from being accidentally summoned during inopportune times, as she was still quite young; the spirits that she did manage to summon were just as young in spirit terms as Alouette was for a human.
By that point, 13-year-old Marceau was deemed a ‘failure’ by their grandparents regardless of Matthieu and Camille’s vehement denial of such, instilling in the impressionable boy an unhealthy, self-loathing depression. Eight-year-old Alouette was childishly outraged, still too young to know that she could do little to change the minds of those unwilling to change, and became increasingly defensive of her sweet brother; this is where her short fuse stems from. Marceau didn’t blame her, but as he grew older, the distaste turned to outright loathing, venomous words being thrown his way whenever they had to attend family gatherings of that side of the family. The years passed by all too slowly for the boy, and the moment he could, he left, traveling the world instead of attending college. She managed to endure four years without her beloved brother, and while her parents tried their best to cheer her up, a part of little Alouette remained heart-broken and bitter.
Still, having to grow up watching her brave older brother crumble from the pressure, she had long since learned to use her words to her advantage, though that normally meant aiming well-veiled barbs and insults at the family members that weren’t fond of Marceau. She could just as eloquently ask for things she wanted, however, and four years after her brother fled, she too decided she didn’t want to stay in France. She begged and wheedled, coercing and coaxing her parents to send her away. Her mother was quite reluctant to let another child go and questioned whether Alouette was ready to leave her friends, her life, behind, but her father understood his daughter’s desire; the man pulled some strings with contacts he had from his days as a law enforcer on the magical side of France and got his daughter enrolled in Grade 11 of Starlight Academy’s high school equivalent.
And so, a deal was struck. Alouette would remain on Manta Carlos for the school year, but during long breaks, she would return home to receive more family history-specific lessons on spiritual summoning. Throughout the year, along with regular letters from home, she would get letters detailing exercises to do along with whatever classes and homework she would get from school. Most teens would balk at additional work, but Alouette didn't mind, and so easily acquiesced before her parents saw her off.
