This sucked. He had been stuck in the library for hours and hours and hours trying to do this stupid paper about some shaking spear and he just wasn't getting it. Poetry and sappy things were for women and as far as he knew, he didn't have titties. So why was he being made to write about what's so freakin' cool about it? Romeo and Juliet...That was dumb. Why couldn't he write about something cool like monsters n'shit like that?

He had a pile of books sitting around him just to write about this thing. He tried reading some of the stuff like Hamlet just because he assumed the story was going be amusing and based around a small pig. That turned out to be...To be...Hell, he didn't even know what he was reading it was stupid. Cross was running out of options. Actually, there was something he could do. Why didn't he do it before?! Oh, that's because Miss M taught him morals and drilled it into his head that he should do his own work. Well, she wasn't here and she wasn't around period to help him with his homework.

Immediately he caved into his desires and went searching. As it turned out, there was nobody else in the library...Nobody else except for himself and a certain three foot girl. How a little girl like herself would be able to help a big man, he didn't know but it was worth a shot! His grades were at stake here! "Hey you. Yeah, you! Have you...Read Shakes Spear before?"

"Shakespeare? Y-Yeah I read a bit of his stuff." Cheeto had taken Othello off of the shelf, upon starting on Shakespeare she couldn't get enough of him. all that Ye Olde English writing was a bit confusing but the stories were fascinating. She shifted a little, avoiding eye contact. Some of that long, ivy-green hair of hers fell down over her eyes. He was huge, moreso than any student had any right to be. He easily surpassed her height and then some, and his body was covered with muscles. MUSCLES UPON MUSCLES. Was he a body builder? A line-backer? Some form of advanced, sexy truck? Cheeto tried not to look at him, for fear of being deemed too scrawny and eaten.

"W-why, you need some help with his books?" She stuttered out her answer and turned that earthy-brown face of hers up to try and meet Cross's gaze. Her emerald eyes looking almost pleadingly up at Cross. He was, by far, the biggest human she had ever seen, and everything about him screamed Alpha, Apex Predator. She clutched her book tight to her chest as she spoke, back straightening so she could look up and try to meet his grey eyes. "I gotta do a paper on some of his books, do you have to as well?" Cheeto had come into here to research Shakespeare for her English class originally, but got engrossed in his writing after Macbeth, and had plowed through Romeo and Juliette as well as Hamlet within a few days.

Man she was small. He hoped she didn't think he was there to eat her...In which technically he could, but he didn't like Goblin-meat. It was too...'gamey' for his tastes. Anyway, he wasn't here for a snack. He poked the Othello book she hugged against her chest. "Yeah, I don't get any of them. Who reads this crap anyway?" Who read things, period? All the nerds in the world except for him, that's who! He huffed and--Oh it was probably a bad idea that he was close-- too close. She literally had to strain herself to look up to those sexy, intimidating grey eyes of his. It just occured to him that there was a possibility that she was in his english class, but he wasn't sure. After all, he sat way in the back and being the little shortstack that she was, he probably didn't notice her. He didn't notice a lot of things in that class.

He nodded firmly to her question. " I don't see why I have to write about some dumb book. Think you can help me with that, short-stuff?"

"W-W-Well... W-well I do." Cheeto stammered out the words, staring up at the giant of a man before her. Just poking the book was enough to make Cheeto have to take a small step to avoid falling over as she clutched the thing even tighter. "I like these sorta books... They got some interesting stories." She frowned up at Cross but there was still that strange fear in her eyes, fear and admiration. It was hard not to be impressed with that physique.

"A-And I s'pose I could help you write about them..." She looked away for a bit, thinking before looking back, wait a minute. "Hey aren't we in the same class?" Cheeto tilted her head a bit, the guy did look familiar but she never got a good look at the guy. In class Cheeto was all business, rarely taking her eyes off the teacher or her notes. This was quite different but keeping her mind on schoolwork might make it easier to deal with Cross's imposing presence.

Oh wow...Could she read minds or something? Hopefully not because what was in his mind was totally too awesome for readers. Their minds would explode! Anyway, he took her meek answer as a yes and left the little goblin's side when she looked away. The moment she looked back, a giant stack of Shake Spear books dropped onto her desk with a loud THUD. "HAHA GREAT!"

SHHH!

Shit. The Librarian was glaring at him. If only looks could kil--No, hopefully they never do. You never know what people could do on this island. Because of that, he winced and hunkered down into his seat. Cross looked ridiculous sitting on the little stool, but he was afraid moving the chairs would make too much noise. The Librarian was still staring. Cross grumbled. "Let's just get this thing over with I hate libraries..."

So time went by and...Well, it was mostly Cross watching Cheeto write things out. He totally wasn't making her do all the work. He was 'visually learning' because he was a 'visual learner'. Oh, and he was hungry too. Somehow, he happened to magically possess a...bag of cheeto puffs in which he kindly offered. "Want some?" The librarian glared his way again. What kind of schmuck brought food into a library? This one.

Cheeto winced, both at Cross's sudden outburst as well as at the reprimand from the Librarian. She worked as best she could, trying to explain some of what she was writing to Cross but usually giving up in dismay or frustration. When he brought out the bag of cheesy little treats she stared at it. It had an almost hypnotic effect on Cheeto, it was her namesake after all. However, this was food inside the library. "M-maybe later... Actually c-could you please not eat in the library?"

It was bad enough that it didn't even look like Cross was doing any work, but Cheeto wasn't going to even bring that up. Humans were already twice her size, and this guy was huge. Even by human standards he was a monster, and since this was Starlight Academy he was probably even more monstrous than she could believe. Saying Cheeto was a little intimidated was an understatement. She wanted to get her own work done, though, and if she could help someone else get into Shakespeare while she was at it, that's a pretty good bonus. "Alright, 'To be or not to be.' What's that statement referring to?"

Normally hell would rain down upon those that tried to tell him what to do. Hell and ...whatever worse things were out there would have rained down even more if people tried to get in between him and his food. Cheeto on the other hand...Well...He chewed once more before he said "Okay..." and put away his snack for later. Oh, he did lick his fingers though! Cheese dust was sacred and therefore should never be wasted.

But now he had nothing to do but sit there and watch her write--er do his homework. Hey, his teachers told him to make use of resources, right? So, he was using a resource! Teacher can't be mad about that, right? Thinking about this whole assignment with that in mind made this a little better, but what threw him off was that said 'resource' was asking him something. "...Huh? To be or not to be? I don't know--Uhh..." What...did it even mean? Whatevenis? Two minutes in, a bulging vein on his temple decided to make it's presence known. "HnnnNNNGH I DON'T KNOW!"

"BE QUIET!"

He hunched, attempting to hide from the librarian's death stare but failing to do so. Okay, he tried to think about it again...thought about it...some more... "Is it like...Like, do I want to be a nerd or not to be a nerd? I mean, because nobody wants to be a nerd, but they become nerds? I know I don't want to be a nerd, but I could be a nerd and sit here nerding it out in this stupid nerd room. Right? Is that how it works?" That was perfect. SPOT. ON.

Cheeto gave a small smile to Cross when he put the snack food away. Cheeto had always been fascinated with the food she was named after, it had an almost hypnotic effect on her at times. They were so good, you couldn't have just one, but also so bad and got that orange dust everywhere... She had resumed her own writing, taking notes on the themes in the book, the old timey puns, and the characters. When she asked the question, she did so with an almost hopeful look on her face.

The answer she received, though. At first Cheeto ducked as well, almost hiding under the table from the librarian when she snapped at Cross. As Cross started to speak shortly after, Cheeto's face briefly flashed to horrified, then to offended, hurt, almost in tears, then suddenly deadpan. Her ears drooped down, her brow knit, and her lips pursed, she simply scowled at Cross as he spoke. It wasn't even hatred in her eyes, it was just deadpan impatience. When he had finished Cheeto simply spoke again, her tone sounding flat and unimpressed, hiding how much Cross's words had actually stung her.

"Not really."

It was amazing how many expressions Cross could get out of a single human being within a matter of minutes. Unfortunately for Cheeto, he didn't register the amount of turmoil she went through as he tried to answer her question. "What? That's not it?" he snorted. That was a stupid phrase anyway. Who was supposed to understand that? What did that even mean? Who even says that kind of stuff these days?! Oh, and why was she looking at him like that? "D-Don't look at me like that, I don't know these things! Uh..." Did he like...offend her or something? "Whaaaat? It's not like I called you a nerd, geez!"

Since he didn't like the concept of him not being able to answer a question, Cross dove into a few of the Shakespeare books in search for the answer. He tried hard, he really did! After a while, he finally came up with another answer! Hopefully she didn't get mad about this answer. "Sooo...It means to exist? Like uh...dying? Is that it?" This better be right dammit.

As Cross started to piece things together, Cheeto's expression changed to a smile, almost a relieved smile as he pieced things together. She decided to throw him a bone, since he certainly seemed like he was trying. The guy seemed oblivious to how his comments had affected Cheeto, but she gave him the benefit of the doubt, the big hunk... "Yeah, to exist. Hamlet gets a pretty bad deal." Cheeto turned her book so that Cross could see it and scooted her chair a little closer to his. "At the start some guards see the ghost of the old king, and next the new king and queen are celebrating getting married but Hamlet's looking kinda sad. The old king is hamlet's dad, the queen is his mom, and the new king is his uncle." Cheeto looked up at Cross with a small smirk. "Think you can live with that? A few months after your dad dies your mom marries your uncle?" She turned the pages back on her book to the famous 'to be or not to be' solilequey. "The language is old but pretty much, he's asking who'd bare this? Would it be worth it just to end it all?"

Cheeto gave it some time to sink in, but she also thought to herself... Why not try something he might like a little more? Hamlet has a skull in it, but maybe he'd be a little happier with something with a good deal more action. "One Second." Cheeto was still listening, but she went over to a shelf and pulled out Macbeth. The project wasn't just on Hamlet, as she recalled, maybe something Cross could get a little more into could work for his essay.
