Kadasha had stayed at the orphanage for over a year now, and now she was being taken home by a man she barely knew. People told her that he'd take care of her. She didn't really believe that, but she had no choice. All her things were packed up and loaded into the car, all but her precious stuffed toy that she kept holding on to, half her face buried into Shay's back. Shay had assured her that everything would be just fine, and if it wasn't he told her that he'd take care of it. If it came from anyone other than her sentient stuffed toy, then Kadasha would've been worried. She avoided eye contact with her new parent and just looked out the window to see the trees and buildings go by. Neither the girl nor the shaymin doll said anything, afraid to be told to keep quiet. The child was anxiously hugging her toy tightly as if she was afraid the man would rip him off of her. She'd be devastated if that ever happened. Shay was the most precious thing to her after all. The only thing she had left.

Noel glanced over kindly at Kadasha and her stuffed toy when they got into the car, respectful like and allowing the child her space. He understood, in a way, just how she must be feeling at this very moment. She was essentially being taken from the one place she knew as "home" to go and live with a complete stranger she had never met before.

"Your stuffed toy seems very special, Kadasha," Noel stated matter-of-factly as he slowly and safely pulled the car out into traffic and headed towards home.

"Do they have a name?" he asked her curiously as he glanced at her and Shay. "Cause, you know, all toys need to have names," he added very seriously as if this were a very important fact.

Kadasha got extra protective about Shay when the man mentioned him, and she just hugged him more tightly now. Still she kept quiet, trying to pretend that she didn't hear him. It was at this point that Shay started to look more animated, glancing at the man. "It's Shay," he said. Shay sounded a little cautious. They still didn't know this man, and now he's basically got ownership of the two of them. Being a little anxious was warranted. Though, truth be told, the man didn't sound mean. Maybe that was a good sign?

"Shay," Noel said with a grin when the doll answered, not surprised at all that it talked. Though truth be told, he had also been informed by the social worker in charge of Kadasha's case that her doll was sentient. Although, truthfully, even if he hadn't been informed, it would not have surprised him in the least. Noel knew toys had life, or some did anyway.

"It is very nice to meet you, Shay," Noel stated, "I'm Noel Sinterklaas," he said introducing himself as he signaled so they could take a left at the lights ahead.

"And you are Kadasha's best friend, I take it?" he asked politely and with real interest, acting as if it was the most natural thing in the world to be chatting with a doll - which to Noel, it kind of was.

"And her body guard," Shay added with a firm nod. Kadasha was just listening, still unmoving and just looking outside. There were a few greenish wisps outside her window, seemingly following the car. Meanwhile, Shay just looked at the man, still not sure how good he'd be. While he wasn't there when Kadasha's family was all happy and smiling, Kadasha told the doll how everyone got along. And how her parents suddenly started ignoring her and each other. That wouldn't be a problem though, right? The man came alone, so he probably didn't have a wife, otherwise they'd go together, wouldn't they? "Is it just you?" the doll asked.

Noel nodded at Shay's question about being alone. "Yes, it is just me," he told the doll. "My partner passed away a few years ago," he told him, automatically thinking about his last partner, Greg, and the previous wives and husband before him, including his first wife ever, Aslog. She had been Noel's first love ever, his first human partner, and the first to die ... even now, millennia later, he still thought once in a while about her and found the ache of her loss was still there.

"Have you and Kadasha been together for very long?" Noel asked Shay as he looked at the young girl that was now in his care and, who he hoped - over time, would become his adopted daughter in all senses of the word. Noel had adopted before over the centuries, and each person had been special to the god. And Kadasha was no exception, as soon as he had heard about the girl, his heart had gone out to her.

Ahh, so his significant other had passed. Maybe that's why he adopted Kadasha? Poor guy, he must have been lonely all those years. Kadasha may not have lost anyone that way, but she felt very lonely all the same. Shay nodded to Noel. "For as long as I can remember," he told him. Kadasha sniffled a little and Shay could feel sadness creeping in. She must have remembered something again, he thought. He could only generalize his guess to the first few months he was with her. That was the time where she really got attached to the toy after everything had been going bad for her. He felt some happiness at first, probably as Kadasha remembered how happy she was when she had something new to play with, but it slowly turned sour when, he guessed, Kadasha realized why he was given to her in the first place. "Could we talk about something else?" Shay asked.

Noel glanced at Kadasha and Shay, and just nodded in understanding when the doll politely asked if they could change the subject. Noel could actually almost feel Kadasha's sadness as she sat there quietly and this made him furrow his brow somewhat at this.

"Have you been down to the pier at all?" Noel then asked. "They have a funfair there with rides and games," he explained as he signalled to turn down the road that would soon take them to where Noel lived and which would soon be their new home too.

"Well... no," Shay answered, somewhat cautiously. "We did visit the park though. We... only got caught a few times." He was unsure if the orphanage told Noel how many times the two of them sneak away, but that could possibly derail the conversation enough from the topic of large bodies of water. How much did the orphanage tell him anyway? "Last time we were there, the Christmas Tree was still up."

The orphanage had not, in fact, told Noel all that much about their little escapades together, and so it took a moment or two for him to fully understand the implications of what Shay was telling him. Glancing at the two then with an unreadable expression, Noel couldn't help but shake his head and smile at them kindly. The ancient god knew that it would do no good to become incensed or ask a ton of questions or warn them either of the dangers of such an act. Instead, he decided to ignore it for now.

"Christmas?" he mused out loud, saying it very thoughtfully, "That was quite a while ago," he affirmed as he pulled the car up the street where his house was, "Maybe we can go tomorrow, or the day after, and check it out? The flowers should be in full bloom right now," he explained. "And maybe, if you like, we can check out the funfair too," he added as he pulled the car into a driveway.
