"Sorry," she'd chuckle embarrassingly. "I'll tell you when I switch, I'm still figuring out like social etiquette for it," she'd admit.

"Hmm....picture me flying around with my sword, learning to fight airborne enemies," she'd smile. "Trying to learn all my mom's tricks, like she form a tornado with her wind magic," she wasn't sure if she could ever get that powerful.

She'd look to her. "So, what do you like to do?" she'd ask curiously, "I honestly haven't talked to all that many people our age."

['Don't change what you're doing just for me,'] Vivian said telepathically. ['I actually think the no-warning gender changes are fun. I'm jealous. Do what feels right.']

Vivian imagined Arno flying around with a sword and doing wind magic combat. That was definitely a cooler hobby than anything Vivian was doing.

['Your hobbies are way cooler than mine. I'm more into gaming and watching movies. And long walks, I guess, but that's mostly for my health. Are you new to... Normal teen stuff?']

She'd nod. "Me and my parents moved around a lot, we weren't sure we were safe until they finally ended the feud." She'd say with a sigh. "So....I didn't get to talk to Man growing up, we usually ended up staying in isolated cabins in the forest...sometimes even caves."

Arno would stop herself, chuckling and clearing her throat. "I apologize, I didn't mean to start complaining," she was grateful to her parents for keeping her safe, but it made other things difficult.

"I also enjoy walks, I like to go on walks or runs in the morning," she'd smile, "the park here is really nice, and I know a really nice trail in the forest." She'd toot her head, "could....could I play video games with you sometime? I still haven't gotten to try them."

Arno sounded like she had a difficult time growing up. When she apologized for complaining, Vivian just shrugged. ['No problem. That sounds rough.'] Vivian had spent quite a bit of time complaining about less, like her stupid deadname.

The conversation moved on, and Arno wanted to try video games. It made sense she wouldn't have gotten to try them before, considering how she grew up. Vivian was into the idea ['Sure! I'm starting to think that's pretty common here, actually. Not getting to play those before you come here.']

Vivian turned around and leaned against the guardrail. She noticed the lighthouse's lamp, its light extinguished. ['Do you think the light in this thing still works?']

['I dunno, it might be cool to light up on special occasions. Tell the kids we're using it to guide Santa Claus's sleigh or something.'] She half-smiled. ['Hell, I bet a bunch of adults would believe that, too, on this island.']

She'd grin. "Don't go easy on me though," she'd say with a giggle. "Video games seem fun, and having someone to play them with will be really nice," Vivian seemed really nice, so far she was enjoying hanging out with her.

Vivian's half smile made her smile even more, and she'd lean against the railing next to her. "That's something me and my parents talked about, lighting it up during holidays and such," she'd giggle. "It doesn't currently work, but if we get it my mom wants to fix it up, give it a magic power source, or replace it altogether with with a glowing stone."

A very light snow would begin to fall as they spoke, though it wasn't cold enough for it to stick. "I don't know if the island has any more big holidays coming up, so maybe I'll try to convert my parents to throw some sort of celebration without one," she'd say with giggle.

Vivian nodded along. Fixing up the lighthouse seemed like kind of an exciting project.

['Have you ever seen that horror movie called The Lighthouse? It -'] "Oh!" Vivian exclaimed out loud as a few snowflakes landed on her glasses.

It was probably going to start snowing even more as time went on. The cold wind was already a bit uncomfortable to fly in today, without ice crystals flying into her face - or, her face flying into ice crystals, more precisely.

['It's starting to snow.'] She took off her glasses and looked at the snowflake on it. ['Do you want to get inside somewhere and get lunch? I know a couple places if you don't already have one in mind.']

She'd giggle. "It's pretty......," she'd say, letting some snow fall on her hand as she considered something, "but not as pretty as you." Arno had had exactly zero experience with actual flirting, so this, like the rest of the date was unfamiliar territory.

"There is one restaurant I had in mind, it's called The Four Corners," she'd offer her hand, gently picking her up again when she took it. "Its run by four immortals, from different parts of the world, lots of different foods to try."

They'd lift off, the half dragon's wind carrying them off the lighthouse and then down to the ground. "It's just over the hill," she'd say with a smile, leading her in that direction. "Are you cold, I'm quite used to the cold air, so you're welcome to use my jacket," she'd offer, unzipping it.

Oh geez. Vivian didn't really know how to register that compliment, or respond to it. She wondered - did Arno need her eyes checked? Vivian had a hard time believing she was pretty, with all the pain she'd felt over the years from just looking in a mirror. She just tried to laugh it off as she answered telepathically. ['Uh, thanks.'] "Haha."

The Four Corners? Vivian hadn't heard of that one before. It sounded a lot closer than any of the places she knew about, too. Granted, she only knew about a couple; she didn't have the kind of allowance that let her eat out a lot. ['That sounds pretty fancy. Sure.']

Vivian helped a bit more with Arno picking her up this time. Being held and carried like this was a lot nicer than she'd been expecting, though it would have been hard for her to explain how or why. It didn't last quite as long this time, of course. When they landed, Arno offered Vivian her jacket.

['I think I'm warm enough,'] Vivian answered. ['Look at you being all old-fashioned and chivalrous, though.'] Despite sounding like she was poking fun at Arno, she definitely found it endearing. She had no doubt her parents would like Arno, if not for the genders involved.

She'd giggle. "Well, both my parents are pretty ancient," she'd smile and offer her their arm. "Guess I'm ending up a hybrid of a lot of things," she'd say as they walked, "both of social stuff, and of dragon and human."

Arno would lead her towards the restaurant, which quickly came into view, the scents coming from it. "It's run by four immortals, from different parts of Earth," she'd smile, "one's a friend of my parents." She knew they'd give them a discount but she still had every intention of paying for the meal.

At the restaurant she'd of course open the door for Vivian. Upon entering they'd find the restaurant design and decoration taking on elements from multiple cultures. [My father jokingly says it should have been named Culture Clash] she'd think to her with a giggle as an employee showed then to a table.

Vivian hooked her arm around Arno's. Was this an old-fashioned thing too, or a thing people still did? It wasn't like Vivian went on dates. She was still frankly shocked that someone would ask her out in the first place - but it was a nice boost to her self-esteem.

Vivian realized that she didn't even know which version of Arno had the charm turned on, and which one had the charm turned off. If she had to guess, she'd say male was the charm-turned-off mode - but she felt like knowing for sure would ruin the mystery of it.

Of course Arno made a point to hold the door for her. That seemed like the traditionally male thing to do, though they were both girls right now. If they were going on a gay date now, did that just mean Arno was the top? Gods, Vivian regretted letting that thought cross her mind. Why was that something she had to think about? She blamed the internet. The internet was a mistake and a curse.

When Vivian looked closely at all the decor in the restaurant, she could identify some of the cultures different pieces came from. ['Yeah, seriously, culture clash. It's like, am I about to order pizza here, or General tso's? Or some kind of General Tso's chicken pizza... ok, if that's a real menu item I'll scream. That sounds like something only a stoner could eat unironically.']

Vivian was morbidly curious what kinds of weird fusion dishes would show up on the menu she took.

['I feel like cultural fusion is kind of a theme with you,'] she observed.
