==> Invidia.

Another day another problem.

Invidia didn't like having to go to school. But that was because she hated people giving her the stink eye for walking in broad daylight nd being demonic without even trying. It wasn't her fault she was born with a demon for a father. Sometimes she wished her mother had just sent her to somewhere more isolated.

Manta Carlos was an isolated island, but not isolated enough. There were more people here than she wanted. People who didn't look suspicious. She didn't want to look affected so she decided to just walk around and try to ignore the looks she was getting.

She looked at up at the sky as she pondered what she's supposed to be doing. Other than skipping classes. No one was studying if she was around. They were all murmurring. In all honestly it was bothering her. But she pretended she was just bored in class. She was, but she was also bothered.

Sometimes she wishes something interesting happens.

Invidia was her name – and that was all that Chloe knew for sure.

She heard other things. They thought she was a demon, which might not be true, and that she was a shapeshifter, which would be stupid to lie about. The rest of what she heard was brain-dead gossip. Some people thought she was a spy for the Devil, gathering information about the mortal world for some kind of future invasion; several others believed she was here to corrupt the souls of the innocent. These people probably said the same things about Chloe, when her back was turned. The rumors about her probably involved more sex, though.

Chloe thought that was funny. At least, it hurt less when she decided not to take it seriously. She’d never even had sex!

Right now, Invidia was sitting around in the courtyard, classes were over, and Chloe didn’t have and extracurricular activities to be running off to: a perfect opportunity to introduce herself. Two clawed toe-feet tapped against the sidewalk, heralding Chloe’s approach.

“Hi. Invidia?” Chloe got her attention with a shoulder-high wave, and her tail unconsciously mirrored the movement. “Sorry if this is weird, but it’s getting really stupid that we haven’t met yet.” She glanced at Invidia’s horns; her reasons for saying this should have been obvious. “I’m Chloe.”

As Invidia heard her name called, she looked up to find an odlly deformed girl standing before her. Calling her oddly deformed would have been like the pot calling the kettle black. Though to be fair, she was less deformed, it was only the horns and the odd markings that never came off no matter how much scrubbing he did.

But it was interesting, indeed. She'd seen the girl around, heard a few things about her, but she would guess those could just be rumors. She looked much too innocent to be a succubus. She looks like a kind who would be all shy and awkward at the prospect of engaging into it. At least that's how Invidia would see it.

"Chloe huh. So what kind of demon are you? I doubt you're any kind of succubus." she said with a deadpan expression. She'd expected that would be the reason, judging from her glancing to her horns.

She wonders how this would look to others. Two demons conspiring against humanity. That would be funny.

“I…” She didn’t look like a succubus. What the hell was that supposed to mean? That she was unattractive? That she didn’t look like a slut? “…Thanks. I think.”

Chloe recovered from her confusion. “Anyway. I’d consider myself a fraudulent demon, as in, not actually a demon. I don’t think I’m a demon, anyway. I just… sort of look like one.” And she had the kind of power you would expect from a succubus or an incubus, too. Chloe wasn’t about to share that part of her story. “Though I suppose all my memories of not being a demon could be a lie.” Shrug.

“What kind of demon are you, then?” Chloe hoped she had found someone genuinely knowledgeable about demons. It was probably a good sign that Invidia could tell she wasn’t a succubus. Unless Chloe was actually a succubus in denial, or something.

Invidia didn't turn her eyes away. 'Thanks'? What was that supposed to mean. Whatever, Invidia didn't feel like thinking too much into it. It was better to let the conversation flow than to worry about litte things.

"Well, memory alteration could be a possibility too." Invidia leaned back and crossed her legs. It would have been quite unfortunate indeed if her memories had been messed up. It was hard to deal with people like that. "So what, someone cursed you to look like a demon? Tough luck. But I'm not gonna poke into it if you really have no clue." Too troublesome to think about it.Not like it would matter to her. She was born to be one and she was only told when she was already turning into a monster.

"Shapeshifting demon. But I only consider myself half. My mother is human as far as I know." She hated being half. Half-human, half-demon. Why didn't it have to be just one? Why did her father even have to be a demon of all things?

A shapeshifting demon. Chloe had heard about that part. The bit about the human mother was new.

After some hesitation, she decided to tell the short version of her story. “It’s, uh… I don’t think I got cursed to look like this,” she said. “I mean,” chuckle, “it is a curse, sort of. But I don’t think anyone cast a magic spell on me to make me this way. It’s just a really unfortunate genetic disorder from another universe. Which is where I come from. I think.” She sighed.

Despite Aurora’s insistence that she probably came from another universe, Chloe had her doubts. She got to a point where being insane seemed more likely than her memories being true. This island was too much for her. She was probably in a mental hospital somewhere, curled up in a ball muttering to herself about an island in the pacific.

“Did you know your dad very well?” She blurted out the question and immediately regretted it. Chloe cringed at herself.

"You 'think'?" Invidia echoed. She has never met anyone so unsure about themselves. She wasn't going to be surprised if this girl in front of her turned out to be a mental case, apart from looking like she came out of a horror movie. Genetic disorder seemed to much of a stretch for her and she wasn't sure how she could even think about that being possible.

But she shouldn't judge, right? She herself wasn't right in the head either.

As Chloe dropped the question about her father, Invidia had to raise a brow at the girl. Why would she be interested about some guy like her father?. She let out a heavy sigh. "Personally? No. But my mom seemed to have nothing else to talk about since I turned into this." she said monotonously, gesturing at her face. Her body might have looked more human than Chloe's but Invidia's face looked more demonic than Chloe's.

"I've never met him. But if I'm going to consider my mother's endless stories, I might as well have. Why do you even ask?"

That was probably a misstep. Judging by the sigh and her reserved tone, Chloe could tell that it wasn’t a pleasant subject for Invidia.

“I’m… trying to learn about demons,” Chloe said. “Books have been useless so far. None of it agrees with itself. I thought it’d be better to ask someone with firsthand knowledge.” If people were going to keep calling her a demon, and if demons were real, she ought to learn a little about them. Hey, for all she knew she might even be one.

She frowned. “Sorry if that... wasn’t a good thing to ask.”

"I just never really met him and I don't particularly care." Invidia said, but her tone was raised as if she was almost unsure of what she had just said. For someone else, it might have sounded like she was still trying to convince herself so.

Invidia had grown up with only her mother but never did they have any problems. Maybe once in a while she would become jealous with old friends getting to talk about theirs. Back then she wished she could have a father figure but her mother seemed to be happy with what they had.

"As far as I know, you're not getting anywhere from books. Even if Starlight has books that don't exist in other places, books on demons aren't easy to come by." She told Chloe as she casually twirled her hair around her fingers.

"So I'm guessing you want to learn about demons so you can check if you are one or not?" she asked, though her tone made it sound like she was already sure.

”That’s part of it, yeah,” she said. “Everything about me says, ‘demon.’ How I got here, what I look like, what I can do…” she trailed off, realizing how little of that information she was willing to give to Invidia.

She decided to start her interrogation before Invidia started one of her own. “So! What are real demons all about?” She stopped and scrunched her eyebrows, not quite looking at Invidia anymore. “No, that’s a super vague question. I mean…” she faced Invidia again, “Where do real demons come from? And, why would they come here?”

That was probably a good place to start.

She noticed a few other students off to the side, whispering to each other and doing a very bad job of acting like they weren't watching their conversation with great interest. Chloe resolved to think up a way to mess with them by the time this conversation was over.
