Claudia stepped confidently onto the campus of Starlight Academy, ready to start a whole new chapter of her life. She looked around, taking the wonderful landscape in. It was completely different from France (where she had grown up.) The building had a modern-gothic feel too it, just her style. She had a feeling she was going to like the place. She breathed in and closed her eyes before opening the door. The admissions office was full of students, staff, and parents running around frantically. She made her way to the front desk and spoke softly, but loud enough to be heard.

"Hello my name is Claudia Etoile, I'm a new freshman here."

The woman at the desk smiled and pointed her down the hall to her dormitory. She thanked the woman and left, taking her time to take in the beautiful decor around her.

Natsumi was not late for class. Late for class didn't happen. So, briskly walking was a suitable speed. If only she felt like superhuman speeding down the corridor. Maybe if she'd just walked, she could've moved out the way, but instead, she stormed right into... nope, she didn't know who it was. "Oh." She bit her lip, holding in a little chuckle before mentally composing herself. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." She supposed the other girl did not see her either. Though, honestly, people should look where they're going. "My bad." She looked the girl over for a moment. Anybody walking that slow was either naturally slow, a nature lover, or new. Natsumi prayed it was the last option, because her next sentence was, "Are you new?" It would really suck if she'd been there for years, and Natsumi simply hadn't noticed.

Claudia was admiring the architecture of the building when suddenly someone walked right into her. She stumbled, but didn't fall. She regained her composure, wiped her dress off, and gave the girl who had walked into her the infamous side-eye. "Maybe watch where you're going next time..." She mumbled, too quiet for anyone to hear unless they had superhuman senses. "Yes, I am new. I'm assuming you're not?" She replied, a hint of sass lining her otherwise plain voice.

"My bad," she stepped back a moment. "On the plus side, nobody got hurt." She scowled a little, perhaps less serious from the other girl. "I can't help being busy though, newbie." Her tone was almost teasing at her unoriginal new nickname. And she was busy, even without the class. She'd planned herself a great day full of study and sports in perfect balance. "I'm not new." She had to look down a bit, being two inches taller, and she found it a lot more comforting to know that both strength and size had her back if the cocky-seeming girl got more physically mean than verbal. "You'll love it here. Maybe. Depends on whether you're nice or not." She laughed for a moment, to show she was kidding.

Claudia sighed, she really didn't want to make any enemies on her first day. But, this girl was definitely not someone that Claudia wanted to talk to. Of course, a new nickname, and an unoriginal one at that. "Is newbie really the best name you could come up with?" Claudia laughed a bit, Well, I guess you can't give me a nickname if you don't know my real one; I'm Claudia Etoile." Maybe if she pretended to be friendly she could pass off as being an extrovert. It seemed as though this girl was looking down on her, although she was at least an inch and a half taller.

"Yes," was her pure answer, "Unless you count noob as better than newbie." Which was no more original. "Claudia, that's nice. Natsumi," she offered a hand, deciding she could at least give a few minutes to make sure the newbie- she was warming up to the word- was feeling happy and less lonely. "Well, I suppose the meaning isn't as nice, but it sounds nice." She remembered the meaning was 'lame' from a brief conversation on Emperor Nero with a friend. Etoile, she hadn't heard. It sounded European, not the kind of name that was common in Japan.

Etoile laughed, "I suppose noob's no better" Natsumi... She'd never heard that name before, she had been isolated in France for her entire life so she had only heard European names. Natsumi was looking for a handshake so Claudia gave hers. Her father had always taught her that a firm handshake was important, so she did just that. "If you have a minute, could you tell me where this classroom is?" Claudia asked, pointing to her first period class listed on her schedule. She had New World Food Studies since she was a culinary arts major. She didn't think that being late would be a good way to start the year for her so she was hoping to find her way.

"Nicknames aren't my strong suit," she sighed, but with a small smile. Natsumi shook back, before letting her hand rest by her side. "Sure." Hell, this school was so big, she always had to draw a mental map. "Hmm, you go down here, turn left, then left again, and it will be the third door to the right. I think. I can't cook so I avoid those rooms. I'm guessing you can cook." Well, duh, she thought, otherwise she wouldn't have Food Technology as her class.

Claudia was grateful that Natsumi would help her find her way, but was still very nervous for the first day. As Natsumi gave directions, Claudia was repeating them to herself. Once she thought she had finally memorized them she nodded, thanks her, and walked down the hall. She kept the directions in her head; down, left, left, third door on the right. She finally found the right classroom and sat down at a table.
