Sterling had put up an ad in the local newspaper, in a few shops, and at the Academy looking for a roommate two days ago. He really didn’t need a roommate, he could afford his loft apartment, he had actually bought it outright when he had moved to Manta Carlos.

However, he found that it was lonely living alone. As a guardian angel, he had always been around people or other angels. Now he was on his own and he felt somewhat lonely. The loft was almost too big – everything echoed off of everything and he really just found that he missed having people and movement around.

Cleaning up the apartment, he had hoped that somebody would call or show up soon to look at the apartment. He wasn’t too choosy about roommates, although he didn’t want somebody to overly loud or that was a partygoer. He hoped to find somebody, perhaps, similar to himself or at least pleasant to be around.

Jamie read the newspaper back to front everyday, in the morning. He started doing it because it was something he observed people doing on TV. Of course he didn’t have to. He could just access the news on the nearest computer if he felt like it, and there was a lot of things in there that wasn’t nessecary to read, but he enjoyed it. He liked the routine, and learning things.

He had seen the ad for an apartment with a roommate for four days running now. Currently he still lived in the school dorms, but he didn’t have to, since he can take care of himself better. But he did want to move out. Plus, he would get a roommate. Jamie liked making friends. He can ask them questions, and he won’t have to choose so many things on his own any more. Overall, Jamie decided that moving out would be a good idea.

So here he was. On the top floor of a building. And now he was knocking the door.

“Hi. I saw the advertisements on the newspaper.”

Sterling was just putting away a few things in the closet when he heard the door. The first thing that came to mind was that somebody was probably here to look at the room - finally. Walking from the kitchen to the front door, Sterling opened it and saw a young redheaded man, maybe in his early 20s.

Smiling when he heard the young man say that he was there to look at the room, Sterling open the door wider and gestured for him to come in. “Come on in, the place is a bit of a mess, I’m afraid, I was just cleaning up when you rang,” Sterling explained as he ushered the young man into the front room kitchen area. It was all open concept - except for the bedrooms and the bathrooms. And despite what Sterling thought, the place was fairly tidy. Sterling wasn’t a dirty person, he liked things ordered and in their place, but he wasn’t a neat freak either.

“I hope you had no problems finding the place, I know this area is a bit strange - businesses and warehouses, as well as converted flats. It’s all a bit confusing.” He said as he looked with interest at his potential roommate.

"It's not a mess," Jamie said, immediately, upon seeing the room. He had been taught that he shouldn't say that it's a mess even if it actually is a mess, because that made people uncomfortable, but the room was actually quite clean. Of course, there were objects out of place - a quick pan with his camera showed that, but it was quite neat anyways. The apartment was nice. Nicer than the dorms, at least, and quite a bit bigger than what Jamie was used to. He would like to live there, yes.

"Oh, I didn't have much trouble finding the place," he responded. He had just used the security cameras to navigate. It's something that he had gotten used to doing. But he knew that telling people it made them uncomfortable.

It took Jamie a few seconds to realise that the man was looking at him. When people looked at him, typically they wanted to know more about him. That was okay. Jamie knows how to introduce himself. "My name is Jamie. I don't have a surname. I teach at the academy. Nice to meet you."

"Okay, that's great." Sterling said when he found out his potential house mate had found the loft without any problems. He knew the area well and in the past it had its fair share of problems and not many people had wanted to live down by the waterfront near the warehouse district. But that was slowly changing, and more and more warehouses were being converted into homes.

“Nice to meet you, Jamie, without a surname,” Sterling said with a broad smile, clearly joking, “I’m Sterling Silver, but you can just call me Sterling or Sterl, if you like.” He said chuckle. “I do public relations, PR for events and stuff like that,” he said, “I work for DB Holdings downtown.”

“The loft is fairly big as you can see, lots of light. It has two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. My room has the master bath, but there is a full bath down that small hallway” he said indicating to one side of the loft, “it’s for guests, but it can be yours now.”

“Oh, sometimes, especially on Friday nights, it gets a bit noisy… There’s a pub down the street and it hosts sporting events, football matches, hockey games, that kind of thing.” Sterling said being very honest with Jamie. “Hopefully, it doesn’t bother you too much…” He said as he walked down a short hall to show Jamie the room that would be his bedroom.

"Nice to meet you too, Sterling," Jamie said. Sterling silver was a material, but maybe not a usual name for a person. Jamie hadn't met much people, though, and it would be rude to comment on that as well, so he decided not to mention it. "If you don't like me not having a last name that's okay. I can choose one. I've been meaning to do it, anyways."

He panned his camera across the loft to get a better look. It was a large place, and seemed clean and nice, but a bit empty. "Thank you," he said, nodding in the direction of the bathroom.

"I don't mind it being loud. Thank you for telling me," he said, in response. He can sleep easily, and he can do without much sleep, anyways. As long as he has somewhere to sleep, he could deal with a lot of things. He followed Sterling through to the hallway, being lead into a room.

"Actually, I think I should warn you that I am still learning how to live normally, so I might ask some questions that you might not normally expect from adults if I move in. I can tell you more if you want. But if you are uncomfortable with that I don't mind not moving in/"

"Oh, lords no... it's fine that you don't have a last name," Sterling said quickly backtracking, realising that he had probably offended Jamie with his bad joke. "I was just joking, sorry, I have a crazy sense of humour." he admitted. "Although, it might be a good idea in the long run, you may need one for ID purposes." Sterling explained as he considered what Jamie had said about getting one.

"Yeah, sorry about that..." Sterling said, "They opened a few months after I moved in here. I was thinking of getting a noise cancelling spell put on the windows, but they are expensive and it cancels everything... even the sounds of birds, thunder, everything..." Sterling said with a grimace. He liked the sounds of nature, besides, it would also probably make the loft even quieter than it was, and that bothered Sterling.

"Hey, that's fine... ask away, I'm used to questions," he said with a grin, "Not everyone knows how to use everything anyways. Heck, I spent a week trying to get the dishwasher to work properly, not to mention, I still can't get the toaster not to burn my toast." he laughed, knowing just how frustrating things could be at times.

"So, this would be your room. Not too much light during the afternoon... which keeps it cool. And you can open the windows too if you like." he said walking over and unlatching the window to show him that it could be done.

"It's okay," Jamie assured. It would be a bit scary to live in a place where there is almost no sound, after all. Sounds didn't bother him very much. He liked listening to people, even if they are only talking about weather, because he learned how to talk to people more normally that way.

Jamie was definitely relieved at the fact that Sterling didn't mind questions, and actually seemed to like them, though he might not want to ask him too many serious questions straight away. Serious questions such as "am I a human?" sometimes scared people, so he will stick to normal questions.

"I can fix the toaster, if it's malfunctioning. I'm good with electronics," Jamie offered. Then he realised that it was possibly an anecdote made without expecting a response. Oh, well.

His room was big. He didn't have many belongings to his name, so it will be difficult to fill it. He can fit everything he owned into a backpack, which is convenient, but he understood that people who had lived in the real world for a longer time might own more things. He had been purchasing some objects recently, so maybe that would help. He didn't understand interior decoration very much at the moment but he can learn.

"This is a very nice room," Jamie commented, then added, "I don't own many things. It won't fill very much of it."

"Really?" Sterling said when Jamie offered to fix the toaster,"That'd be great... though I have a nagging suspicion that it's me that can't make toast and not the toaster." he chuckled, knowing that sometimes he was not the greatest with modern technology. Luckily he ate because he wanted to, not because he had too.

After he had opened the window, Sterling shut if again, not wanting to forget and leave it open all night. "That's fine. If you do need anything like bed linen, a blanket, some towels, whatever, just let me know." Sterling offered when Jamie said he didn't have much stuff. It was not uncommon for folks to wind up on Manta Carlos with just a small suitcase or backpack and so, Sterling just assumed that was why Jamie didn't have much many things with him.

"So, where are you from, Jamie?" Sterling asked curiously as they left the bedroom and walked back to the kitchen, "You also said you worked at the Academy, no? What do you do?" Sterling inquired, hoping he wasn't being overly snoopy.

"That's okay. I can buy them," Jamie responded. He still wasn't very good at the concept of money yet, but he did know that he gets more than he knows what to do with for his job, and he can afford things like food and clothes. The actual process of picking things take a bit longer, partly because he's just not used to getting a choice and partly because there are so many things to choose from, but he's getting better at it.

He had to think about the answer to the next question. He could obstruct some parts like he usually does, and just say he is from the UK, but he was going to be living with Sterling after all, and that might warrant some honesty from his part.

"The UK. I lived in a military facility for most of my life," he said. It was better if he didn't go into too many details. That made some people bored. "I'm a teaching assistant for maths. What about you? Where do you come from?"
