This had been a surprising turn of events for Roland, he was on a date. A date with a charming girl, dating in general was a new concept to him. The mage clans of Avalon practiced couting and often arranged marriages.

He had a basket in his right hand, beside him walked Aswan. He smiled at her as they entered the park, "thank you for coming," he said truly grateful.

He was trying to hide it, but he was a bit nervous, but he genuinely liked this girl and was looking forward to their picnic. "We should choose a spot to sit," as his eyes looked over the area for said spot.

Ah. Who knew Aswan would ever date? A quick kiss on the hand, a few roses, hugs... and now this. Roland was, truly, the textbook definition of a 'gentleman'. A brief but triumphant laugh echoed form her mouth as she thought of the people from her old high school - the ones saying she'd only go on a date when she was dead. Who knew it was so true? Clearing her throat, she walked over to Roland (she had just arrived a second late - why were nice clothes always the hardest to put on?) and, bracing herself for the touch, brushed his hand with hers. "Hello," she greeted softly before giving him a smile. "I'm honored to be here with you." It was true, she knew. Very true. Here she was, on this... date... with Roland. She entwined his fingers with his, sinking into the weird, warm feeling of his hands. She could do this.
It was insane how that one sentence - 'a date with Roland' - seemed to make her normally functional brain go on strike. What did a date even entail? Was she doing it right? Did she dress for the occasion? Dress correctly? Aswan wasn't sure if she should have been laughing, crying, screaming in excitement, or all three.
Suffice it to say, Aswan was nervous.
Yet, her emotions lay buried underneath a sly smile, a mock-confident look, a touch of the hand. She wouldn't let the nerves get to her. It was like... a big test. An exam. With a very handsome, kind, funny reward - Roland. God, she hoped she did well.
"Yes... How about under that tree over there? It could provide shade." She pointed to a pretty big tree a little ways away. It wasn't too far that they couldn't walk there in seconds, but it was far enough that Aswan could control her heartbeat. Which, really, didn't make sense - she had no blood to speak of. Ah, she was getting carried away. "How does that sound?"

"Yes, a wonderful choice," he gave her hand a gentle squeeze before leading her to the spot. This girl, was special, unique, she had caught his eye the moment they met.

He smiled and kissed her hand before releasing it and setting there things up under the tree, "you look beautiful Aswan," he said as the took their seats, and he meant it, she was beautiful.

He quickl pulled the food and drinks out of the basket, including a small chocolate cake for them to share, "I hope you enjoy what I brought," he knew of her love of chocolate, and had made sure to bring some.

Then from the bottom the basket he pulled a single glass rose and offered it to her, "the normal flowers are lovely, but they do eventually wilt, this one will not."

She smiled softly as his hand clung to hers. "Thank you," she replied, trying to stay calm as he squeezed her hand. It was inane, how such a gesture could send her heart beating. She didn't even really have a heart to begin with. But, somehow, though not logically, it made perfect sense for her to be here, with the boy who had caught her eye - the only boy to do so. The hand kiss almost sent her over the top in giggles. As it was, she tried to stifle her blush. She hoped she'd dressed correctly - a modest but fitting dress, midnight-blue, knee length. And those deathtraps called heels - how could she forget the little kitten heels (as they were supposedly called - if felt more like lion heels) - they were chomping at her achilles tendon. Nevertheless, if she was nice to look at, it was worth it - (although she would probably sneak on her trusty sneakers later.) Presently she blushed even more. "You're too kind," she laughed, sitting down. The fact that Roland had gone out of his way to provide this wonderful picnic was proof of his kindness - ohhhh. Aswan's eyes widened as she spotted the chocolate cake sitting there. He certainly knew her well enough. She gave a knowing smirk. "The chocolate cake is certainly tempting," she laughed.
Then Roland pulled out the flower - made of GLASS, might she add.
Oh my Lord, she was going to cry. No, wait. No, she wasn't. No crying. She was stronger - and made of more logical stuff - than that. She prrrooobably didn't notice her own moronic smiling.
"Thank you, Roland. I'm touched... Really...." It was true.
"I made you something as well, although it pales in comparison to your gifts." In her hands there suddenly appeared a thin, tiny book. On the back of it, written painstakingly in neat handwriting, was a small letter.
[BCOLOR=#543701]Dear Roland - [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=#543701]Open when:[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=#543701]- you're mad at me (pg. 3)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=#543701]- you miss me (pg.4)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=#543701]- you are sad about anything. (pg.5) [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=#543701]- you need me for any reason at all (pg.6) [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=#543701]I know it's very thin and small, but feel free to do with it as you wish. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#543701]- A. [/BCOLOR]
Aswan looked noticeably tired, but she was still grinning.

A grateful smile crossed his face as he took the book, "thank you Aswan," he gently ran his hand over the cover, "this, is wonderful." He'd cherish this book, more than anything else he owned.

He moved to sit next to her, taking her hand again, "you've been so kind," he chuckled a bit, "and so patient with how little I know of the world. I am very grateful."

"I knew nothing of dating when I arrived, Avalon had courtships and often arranged marriages," he smiled, "so I was uncertain how to approach it, but thankfully I found an incredible girl." Every word was truth, and one could tell by the sound of his voice.

"I understand that, often at a point in a relationship," this was big for him, he was very uncertain how approach this question, "that people will often begin referring to each other as, boyfriend or girlfriend." He looked at her, "would you like for us to start doing that?" it awkward, but somehow he had made it work, in strange charming way.

Aswan, still blushing and grinning, replied in a soft tone - an odd tone for her, but the genuineity of her words was plain. "I'm very glad you like it." It wasn't much - she hoped it'd be okay.
At his mention of her patience, she merely chuckled. "Patience is a virtue less found and more found every day, and it switches from person to person." She'd just quoted one of her favorite book series of all time. "In other words, it was worth it to be patient. Especially because it was you... I-"
Aswan's admittance was cut off again by Roland's own - about dating and stuff in Avalon. Aswan could never get angry at Roland for that - it made him all the more endearing. She was so fortunate, so happy she had decided to pursue the interesting, kind mage. So grateful. "It's my pleasure to teach you." Aswan attempted a wink - but only succeeded in getting an eyelash in her eye, which she pointedly ignored.
And then...
"G-Girlfriend..." It took a few seconds to process. A fee more. "Girlfriend?!" In the span of a second that word had become her dictionary, which then expanded to, "Roland's girlfriend... Your girlfriend... I..."
Finally, as it sank in, she nodded vigorously, the cheesiest grin on her face and a sparkle in her normally sharp eyes.

A bright smile appeared on his face, it was official, they were a couple. He leaned in a bit, "the time I've spent with you, has been truly incredible."

He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes, "I am grateful for every moment I spend with you." He grinned, "I am honored to have you by my side." With that he leaned in and gently kissed her.

The kiss seemed to make time hold still, and Roland would have loved for it to last forever. But finally he ended the kiss and smiled at her. "I had doubts about coming to this island, but now I know that it was the right choice."

Aswan was STILL grinning like an idiot. With good reason, of course. Hesitantly, she wrapped an arm around him, enjoying the sudden warmth that the weird feeling brought to her arm. "You certainly are one of a kind. I-In a good way." Oh, Lord. She was failing this test so badly... At least the feelings - these confusing, warm feelings, these weird, floaty ones.... At least those were the correct ones. "I'm glad you came into my life - I mean, I'm honored to be by your sid -"
Another cutoff, as Roland leaned in and kissed her.

Whoa.
WHOA.
It was as if time had stopped entirely. Gentle, soft - everything she'd read, everything she'd wanted. No, time hadn't stopped, she decided. Time didn't exist anymore. What world? What surroundings? The tree, it wasn't there anymore. All that existed now, she was sure, was she and Roland.
Aswan was okay with that.
At last, he ended the kiss, smiling at her. Lord, that smile. It was time to stop pretending she was logical about this. It defied all logic.
Aswan was okay with that, too.
She felt weak. Is this what kisses did to ghosts?! To humans, too? The brunette only heard Roland's words faintly through her thoughts. It took a few to process, but by that time she was a blushy, flustered, happy, nodding mess. " I wish we had met sooner... C-Can I leave my arm around you? J-Just for a few minutes more?" she asked softly.

Nodding he wrapped his own arm around her waist, "as long as you want" In truth, he had never thought he'd find anyone, but now that he had, he'd fallen for her, fallen hard.

Using his free hand he quickly cut her a piece of cake, putting it on a plate and setting it in front of her. "I know you love chocolate," he smiled and kissed her cheek, "though you're already very sweet."

He grinned a bit, "not sure what I've done to deserve such a wonderful girl." He snugged her close and got himself a piece of cake, this whole thing was one big surprise for him, but a very pleasant one.

Aswan heaved a content sigh and leaned on Roland. The sensation that most ghosts got from touch, it felt like sticking your hand into a vat of warm Jell-o - but it almost seemed fitting for this. Here she was, blushing madly, the happiest she'd been in a long while. And it was all because of this charming, amazing mage who had caught her eye. She realized she'd fallen, fallen hard, for him. Such a kind, cute, funny guy - and another kiss on the cheek sent her into a grinning idiot-like trance. "T-Thank you," Aswan replied, with a kiss on the cheek to reply to Roland's. The cake in front of her smelled amazing, too - he'd obviously picked up on her love of chocolate. "You're sweeter," she commented with a giggle. "Sweeter than this whole cake!"
How had she managed to end up with such a kind, caring, funny, romantic - ah. She was ranting internally again. And so, she replied to him with a smile. "I'm only wonderful because you are." She sealed the sentence with another kiss.
