Mike chucked a large stone at the bear. Turning its attention to him. "MADDIE RUN! I can easily escape if I only have to focus about my self." Mike chucked the crystal towards Maddie. It was about the size of Mike's palm so it might be difficult to drag but it would be easier if he didn't have it on him. The bear roared, prepping for another charge at Mike.

Maddie jumped and caught the crystal in her mouth. It cut the roof of her mouth, but the adrenaline surging through her body kept her from realising it at the time. Bandit released the bear and followed his master as she raced from view.

Maddie didn't stop until she reached the yellow tape, where she fell to the ground, breathing hard through her nose. Her body shook, but she wasn't sure if that was from fear or excitement.

Bandit lay beside her, close enough to give her ear a quick, reassuring lick.

Mike sighed and stared to sprint. The bear's right head slammed into Mike, casuing him to roll back. Mike looked up, blood dripping from the bottom of his chin. The bear lunged and pounced on Mike's robotic arm. It slowly ripped the arm off, sparks flying everywhere. Mike squinted because of all the sparks flying and quickly rolled out of the grip. The bear seemed to be busy using Mike's robotic arm as a sort of chew toy. Mike sighed and quickly sprinted away the best he could untill he made it to Maddie and Bandit. Mike smiled and waved the sparking stump of his robotic arm when he saw them.

Maddie had returned to her human form by the time Mike made his way to her. She was still breathing hard, face colorless. "Your arm! Doesn't that hurt?"

Bandit had his head in her lap, eyes trained on Mike.

"God, I never want to do that again."

Mike smirked and shook his head. "No no feeling. I lost it in this arm once it was replaced with cybernetics. I can easily make a new one." Mike got closer soon placing a hand on her head and rubbing it. "If it wasn't for you and your dog I may have died. Thank you. I really appreciate coming to help me. I promise you I'll never put you in a situation like that again. Besides we got what we came for."

Bandit snarled when Mike touched Maddie. It made her jump and look at her dog, nervously taking him by the collar to make sure he didn't lunge, but he didn't.

"Sorry, I don't know what's wrong with him. He's usually very kind to people." Maddie put herself between Bandit and Mike, smiling a hint. "So what now? What do we do with that thing? I'm not even sure why we needed it in the first place."

Mike smiled and took this crystal. Observing it in the light. "I thought I told you. A nexus is basically a physical form of magic." Mike chuckled and nodded. He turned back to Maddie and Bandit. "Perhaps your dog is afraid I might take you and leave him alone for the rest of his life." Mike shrugged and stuffed the crystal in his pocket.

"Um, what?" Maddie asked, not understanding. She was talking about this whole 'Mike taking her thing'. Why would Bandit think Mike would take her away? And why was that Mike's first thought? "I don't...think so. You have no reason to take me away for the rest of my life."

Mike chuckled "You are correct. But sometimes we must do things, putting everything else behind. I learned the lesson the hard way when I became second in command. It took away everything I did for free time and multiplied the work. It only got worse when I left. I might not take you away from everything but something will. It always happens. When you get older it will happen trust me. Now enough of this depressing stuff. We got the nexus! I think you deserve.....something for your help. Seriously I would have died. The worst part is Osiris would have been saying 'I told you not to do this alone' the entire time I died."

Maddie felt uncomfortable at the thought. She was certain nothing would ever take her away from her dog, or her friends. Then, hadn't Manta Carlos taken her away from her old life? From her family? She sighed and nodded in agreement with Mike.

"I really don't need a reward for helping someone stay alive. That's just good citizenship or something. So what's the next step? Or, do you have one? Do we put the nexus somewhere or do we...like open it?"
