I'm used to the city. This place isn't as big as New York, but it's certainly more like it than the docks." Which wasn't saying much. He wasn't very fond of the docks, which saw very little action and an extremely high amount of busywork. Everyone who came in had to be handled, and it was... stressful, to say the least.

"Every city has stuff going on, and I'm interested to see how it goes." It wasn't like he had any experience being a cop in a city before, but he had a damn good idea of just how messy city life could be. He'd been that mess after all. "How about we do dinner after? Worth getting to know the person you'll be partnered with." It seemed like a good enough idea to him, especially considering he ate out so often anyway.

The guy seemed level headed enough, even though he was quite curious as to what made his soul so muddy grey. He must have done something, though perhaps he'd reformed. Just having impure thoughts wouldn't taint it to that degree. He wanted to know more, as was his nature, but asking openly in an office wouldn't do.

But then again, wasn't it always the same?

"Dinner sounds lovely." It always did. It wasn't as if he were every wary of the people he encountered; they were mere mortals, and there was very little they could do to him that would truly cause harm. "After your shift is done?"

Dinner with Judgement - because that was what Angelo had taken to calling him in his head - sounded fine. He'd find out a bit more what he was like in a situation where neither of them was being shot at.

"Yeah, I'm off at five. I'll meet you outside at like, five-fifteen if that works for you?" Assuming it did, that would be it - and he'd say his goodbyes, promise to meet up with him then, and get back to work.

—-

Five rolled around, and it was a relief and a half. So much paperwork had rolled in at the end that he hadn't been sure if he was going to get to go at all. He peeled off his uniform at the station for once, rather than wearing it home like usual, changing into jeans and a blue shirt before ducking outside, glancing around for Judgey.

Tybalt left once they said their goodbyes, his opinion on his new partner not overall positive but not because of anything he'd said or done. The sticky, tar-like ball of light sitting just in the hollow of his throat dictated everything for him.

But that aside, the rest of the day remained uneventful and would be until around five, when he was supposed to meet his new partner for dinner. It was really a lot of shuffling papers back and forth, filling his name out, reports and bureaucracy and why oh why had he ever given up the stage for this?

So despite the disgusting state of his soul, Tybalt was glad to be getting out and meeting with Angelo for dinner.

He spotted him out front, probably a minute or two earlier than him. "Looks like you're eager to get out of here."

Angelo gave Tybalt a little wave as he came out, grinning when he mentioned how eager he was to get out. "Well, I'm hungry as hell. Only had half a sandwich for lunch before someone pulled in a struggling perp and needed backup." Which meant his poor sandwich had gone forgotten. Lunch was his least favorite meal of the day. Breakfast he could make - itwas pretty easy - and dinner he usually ate out for - but lunch was an awkward middle child. Lots of lunch meals expected a level of cooking skill he simply didn't possess, and he didn't get enough hours to take time off and go out.

"You have any particular places you want to go? If not, there's a nice italian place nearby." Where he'd rapidly become a regular and a favorite of the owner, who appreciated someone who knew more about Italian Cuisine then 'spaghetti and meatballs'.

Ah, those calls for backup. They were always fun, especially if it got out of hand enough to get his wings involved. Usually he didn't let them show up at all, and there was only one distinct time where he needed to use them. That had been a mess, and he sincerely hoped it wouldn't happen again.

"Nowhere in particular, so I think wherever you have in mind sounds fine." As long as this Italian place in some sketchy back alley and, he supposed, his new partner wasn't trying to murder him.

So he'd follow Angelo wherever it was that he was leading him. On the way there he would glance back and forth, seeing the glows that everybody gave off right between their collar bones. It shone through clothes and jewellery and whatever else sat there; he could see it all, and he was rather displeased to find that a lot of them were tarnished.

The Italian place was not in a back alley. It certainly wasn't what most people would think of when they thought of 'Italian restaurant', but it was run by a guy who was actually from Italy, which meant it was authentic as you could get. He held the door for Tybalt, giving the owner a wave before the two of them were seated off to the side. It wasn't terribly busy - not just after 5PM, before most people had started eating.

"You know anything about Italian? Pretty much everything here is good, really just depends on what kind of meal you want." He liked to try something new every time he came, just to try and mix it up. "I'm torn between the spaghetti alla puttanesca, or the langoustines." He'd eaten both in the past, but not since coming to Manta Carlos.

Tybalt shook his head slightly as he entered the place, immediately glancing around at all the people. The weight of souls was often the center of his attention; it was what he was made to do, after all. He saw all the glowing balls, making quiet mental notes. Judgement, indeed.

"I don't know what you're saying, but sure." He picked up a menu, looking at it quizzically as he crossed one leg over the other. "Really, I don't eat much Italian." He didn't eat much at all, actually.

He ended up putting the menu down, settling for a coffee and a simple pasta dish because why the hell not. "So how do you like the department so far?"

"I'm kind of happy it's quiet here. I couldn't imagine being a cop back in New York. Just thinking about it would be enough to give you nightmares." He confessed, before pausing, his brow furrowing together under his hair. "Actually, sorry, no idea how local you are - I kind of assumed everyone would know what New York City is, but turns out not everyone does." It was understandable that a literal space alien wouldn't know, but how could someone from earth not know what New York City was? It just seemed... ignorant. Like not knowing what Bangkok or Lhasa were. Or Tokyo, he supposed was probably a better parallel.

"Are you aware you're alarmingly vague at times? Actually no, pretty much all the time." Tybalt was clearly not the kind of person who was going to have a heart to heart with his new partner, but that wasn't going to stop Angelo from giving it the old college try.

"I know of New York, yes. Been a few times." Ah, he remembered it fairly well... And he remembered that he was absolutely disgusted by it. "Never liked it. I didn't quite care for the people, either." The weight of those souls had been rather tremendous. Black and sticky, wrapping around their necks.

The waiter came and he ordered his coffee and meal, settling back comfortably in his chair. Coffee was a nice human invention, and he'd seen it go from something only the wealthy could afford to something on market shelves for a dollar. He'd seen chocolate go the same way, and many foods come and go. The culture of it was all very interesting.

"Yes, I am." He didn't deny it, didn't hesitate in his answer and... Pretty much left it at that. Vague. He didn't try to make an excuse for it either, while most would when faced with something like that.

"I am to the point and clear when I need to be. Namely, when I'm on the job." Which was, he felt, the only time he truly did need to spell everything out. Otherwise, not at all.
