He'd been invaluable. He'd found Angelo his place among the police, helped smooth out his transition. He'd made sure everyone knew that Angelo was an invaluable asset, not just an odd man out. He'd made it clear just how useful his skills and knowledge could be, and given him a chance to properly prove himself. He had proven himself in the end, but he might never have had that option if not for his partner.

But his partner had been fairly old when he'd taken Angelo under his wing, and a fall had put an end to his career. He would live, but his body was simply too achy to keep on running around.

Which meant a new partner. He'd dancing between a few in between his assignment, but now he'd gotten a proper one. A new, long term partner, assuming they got along.

He settled in at his desk in the station, waiting for his partner to arrive. His desk was not quite messy, although it was certainly disorganized at first glance. There wasn't much in the way of personal effects either. Angelo didn't really have any, so it was all work related.

RE: A New Partner [Horus]

Tybalt had been on the police force for some time now, though that didn't make him immune from the various trials and tribulations of being on the force. He didn't mind working with a partner, really; in heaven, he'd been paired with Dokiel when it came to the task of the judgement of mortal souls.

But being partnered with mortal men and women was, indeed, different. He could see the purity of their souls, which made for some troublesome partnerships in the past. They were flawed, they sinned, and yet they were tasked with upholding the peace.

He'd worked alone for a bit now, but they assigned him a new partner and send him off to his new office. He didn't mind moving much, and it was less difficult for him; he had few personal objects, no frames with family photos, no little macaroni art pieces that he needed to haul with him.

Tybalt didn't pause once he got to the office space. He just wandered right up to the desk where his new partner was supposedly station. A briefcase hung limply from one loose hand, his eyes half lidded and looking downright bored. Tired? He didn't really know.

His first impression was not terribly favorable. The guy looked... well, bored. Angelo leaned back in his seat, looking up at the guy with his hands behind his head.

He was... well, pretty average. There was no real sign of what he was, or what secret powers he might be hiding. Lots of people were like that, complete mysteries. Others were more obvious about what they were. Amusingly enough, they were both blond, and both were hiding behind their hair... although Angelo was doing a much better job of it.

"You my new partner then?" He was pretty sure he was. Why else would he randomly approach his desk like that? He straightened up in his seat before standing, leaning over the desk to offer his hand for a shake. "Names Angelo Genovese." A name that would mean nothing to anyone who wasn't from New York. "Where's your uniform?" Everyone else was in uniform, and the lack of it was the only indication that he might not be the partner he was waiting for.

Resting bitch face seemed to be Tybalt's default. Not that he felt much differently most of the time, anyways. King of cats, indeed.

First impressions were usually based on appearances, or maybe a conversation. The man's hair was rather similar to his own, if he'd let it go and grow completely wild for a couple years. Tybalt liked to keep it neater than that, perfectly tousled.

But no, his first impression came in the form of a glowing ball just at the hollow of his throat, between his collarbones. It wriggled slightly, blurry and stringy around the edges, but it was far from white. Not exactly black, but a mucky grey that swam disturbingly between a pure glow and just an ebony pit.

His frown grew a fraction.

"Yes, I would be." He reached out, taking Angelo's hand and giving him a firm shake. Once up, once down, let go. "Tybalt Capulétte."

As for his uniform, he gave a little shrug. "Hanging in my closet. I didn't feel like wearing it today." Somewhat of a sticking point when it came to his superiors, unfortunately. He'd wear what he wanted to wear and sometimes that just happened to not be the uniform, that was all.

"I'm supposed to be your new partner." His eyes flicked down to the glowing ball that nobody else could see. A tainted soul. What had this man done?

His presence on the island meant there was probably something strange about him, but as a rule of thumb that information wasn't normally passed the way his name had been. He would have to discuss directly with Tybalt to find out what he could do, and that was just what he planned to.

"Well, I'm not going to get on your case about it." Even though his own uniform was perfectly presentable. "I am curious about where your talents lie. Everyone here seems to have some kind of special talent that works well with being a cop. Personally I've got... sort-of-invisibility and enhanced physical abilities." He didn't like calling it invisibility, because it wasn't really. "I can make people not notice me, if I want to. Good for trailing people. Perfect for trailing people, really." And as for his enhanced physicality... well, he was still grappling with that one himself. He was certainly pushing his limits, but the advancements he made seemed to go by leaps and bounds any time he found anyone dying. Any time he did the thing that he hadn't yet wrapped his head around.

Talents would've been an interesting take on it. Tybalt thought that it was less about talent and more about ability. Those who didn't have some sort of advantage was essentially weeded out.

"Huh, I guess that could be useful." A lot more useful than some other things he could've landed with, at least. As for himself, he'd never had to do this show-and-tell thing before. He generally just showed up, but his stuff down and his various partners would find out eventually. Few of them asked upfront what it was he could do.

"Judgement, to put it simply. I see your soul, and how good or bad it happens to be." His job wasn't to lead people onto the right path, contrary to what people thought of angels. His job in particular, the one he was designed to do, was to figure out their souls and bring them to heaven or cast them down to hell.

What an icebreaker.

He liked knowing what kind of things he was dealing with before they were in a situation where it mattered. People needed to know that he could vanish, so that if he did, they wouldn't call around looking for him and ruin the whole thing.

That said, the answer he got was not anywhere near the answer he expected. Most of them were more... mundane. His eyebrows went up, even if his smile persisted. "Like some kind of reaper?" Which was both a completely wrong and terribly ironic thing to say. "Not much use. Basically just profiling at a higher level." Maybe it was insulting to say, but it was true - it was really just profiling by another name. Whether or not profiling was right, didn't matter. Unless it was specific enough to tell him the sins someone had committed recently, it wouldn't be any real help.

After a moment he decided it probably had been a bit rude. "Sorry. Just wasn't what I was expecting, what with the.. judgement and all." He made a vague hand gesture, and hoped they'd be able to move on. "You been with the force for a while then?" He was probably his senior, now that he thought about it.

Reaper. He almost laughed. Almost.

"No. Not a reaper. But I guess you could be close enough." In some cultures. But he was somewhat right in saying that it was a higher level profiling. That was all he'd been made to do, brought from souls and dust to weigh the purity of a human's heart.

"A little while, yes." He'd been on various forces during various time periods. Tybalt had lived among humans for long enough to know what the deal was as soon as he came in, generally speaking. He'd also seen and judged enough of them to understand how many of the crimes were committed.

"And yourself? I haven't seen you around." Probably a month in, maybe two at most? He wasn't entirely sure, but he didn't hang out with his coworkers very often.

A lot of people didn't know what they were. Hell, he didn't know what he was. He knew he could do things, but that wasn't terribly helpful when it came to narrowing things down.

"Since I graduated, but I worked at one of the outer stations." Not the nice big fancy headquarters in the dead center of town. "Moved over to here about six months ago." He at least wasn't allergic to giving a straight answer the way his new partner was. "It's certainly bigger here. A lot busier too. I mostly just handled stuff by the docks, which was a lot of people having nervous breakdowns when they arrived. Not a lot of crime, beyond the occasional person trying to smuggle stuff in." It wasn't like Manta Carlos had a proper border, so smuggling could come in from anywhere. That was the curse of an island.

Tybalt was well aware of what he was... Painfully aware, in fact. What he was came back to haunt him rather often, but returning to what he once was would take centuries more. There was progress, but it was small in the eyes of the heavenly bodies.

"Sounds about right. Fairly mundane. I don't think you'll find much more interesting here." Because it was generally the same stuff, with the occasional murder thrown in. The murders made some variation from the monotony, but someone had to die for it. Not a very good tradeoff, if you asked him.

"Been working here a few years now myself." He didn't come from around here, but considering his status as angelic, he was allowed in. He didn't know where he'd go when he'd ultimately up and leave again, but he'd figure that bridge out when he got to it.
