He was silent for a short while, contemplating Nakata's words. He threw him the bear hide, hoping it would satisfy as a shirt for the time being. It was still unclean and wasn't sliced very well - assumingly due to lack of proper equipment rather than lack of skill - but it would likely suffice. He began preparing the bear meat to be cooked upon the fire. It took a few minutes as he adjusted the height and angle of the meat over the flames. Several times he made adjustments that appeared trivial. More than once he appeared to have not even moved it at all, despite toying with it. When he finally seemed satisfied, he relaxed with his back against the wall, opposite of Nakata.

"Master Nakata. One cannot help but wonder if the questions you pose are truly relevant. Indeed, we have fought against undead abominations together, and I pulled you from the frozen lake at risk to my own self. Is it truly so important to know so much about the one that sits across from you?" While people would typically ask this as more of a rhetorical question, his was most serious. He wanted to know why Nakata was so interested. But before Nakata could even answer, Alistair pressed on. "It is of my opinion that it is important for you to understand that the knowledge you seek could get you killed. Despite your... capabilities... there are indeed things in this world - and some not even in this world - that could cause suffering beyond even your imagination. They could in fact take advantage of your ability, causing horrendous pain while you simply regenerate the wound. Knowing this, do you still seek that knowledge? What reason do you have beyond simple curiosity?"

This time it was Nakata's turn to be struck with silence for a moment. He considered for himself for a moment if this was simply petty curiosity, but upon inspection he decided that it was not.
"We both risked our lives for one another, secrets are not only a wall people put up to protect others from having to shoulder a burden they feel is theirs alone to bear despite what others think. My father killed my mother before my eyes, my father was killed by others before my eyes, and in the course of a night I was whisked away from foster parents and left here with no explanation as to why. There is so much about myself that I do not know and any information, whatever the danger or nature it may carry, is information I'm willing to carry it. Besides this is my first time actively trying to get to know someone. Whatever you know, I can better assist you if I know why you're here and who you are." He said. He hadn't thought about it long enough for all of that to have been something for him to think up. He spoke in earnest and in Japanese he was able to articulate.

He smiled. "I think your heart is in the right place but perhaps your mind is not." He moved to adjust the bear meat over the fire. "Consider for a moment the knowledge I gave you spread to others. Perhaps you spoke of this knowledge with other people. Now not only are you in danger, but others would be as well. Do you believe yourself strong-willed enough to keep such a secret? What if they were to press onward such as you yourself are doing right now?"

"The reason my abilities cannot be inherited by normal humans, Master Nakata.." He paused. "Are because my abilities are not something I am able to do on my own. Does that even make sense? I am not the one performing the actual ability. I have... help." He leaned back now, smiling to himself as if recalling a good memory. "It is not my prerogative to help you achieve it. My purpose is... beyond that."

Nakata was prepared for that response, he had considered that and shook his head.
"The knowledge doesn't need to spread to others. This is your burden that I wish to help you bear and if pressed then they would already know about you so I would simply say to ask you. I have no one close enough to me to tell this to, and even if I did what happens in the forest of death stays in the forest of death." He said with a smile, remembering something he'd heard about Las Vegas in the united states. He considered Alistair's words for a moment and then thought.
"If you're being chased, or hunted, isn't it better to have an ally you can call on to come to your aide." He suggested. He hadn't realized it at first but he was set on protecting. It wasn't really abnormal, but he had already risked his life for the sake of this one. He still didn't know what brought him to this forest but it certainly wasn't to get chased by zombies. Too many factors about this place made him wonder, too many situations far too coincidental for him to think that he'd just stumbled upon it. It was not, however, that Naka was suspicious that the intentions were nefarious, it was the fact that he wanted to help with whatever it was.

"I'm afraid it is far more complicated than that, Master Nakata. I do not doubt your words, but I am afraid that the reason I am here far exceeds your comprehension." He moved to adjust the bear meat once again. It was nearly done. "What would you say if I told you that in an instant, the entirety of this world as you know it could change for the worst? What if I told you that the knowledge you seek could become the direct cause for that occurrence? Would you still seek it in hopes that my words never bear truth?" He paused and his eyes looked into Nakata's. But this wasn't any normal look. It was a pressuring look. Nakata had never seen Alistair stare like this before, but it was completely different from his typical care-free persona.

It would likely be difficult for Nakata to keep such direct eye contact for so long, but at the same time Alistair's eyes beckoned him to look back. "Tell me, Master Nakata. What is your purpose in life? What is your destiny?" These words echoed throughout the cave as if spoken by some higher being, the intensity of their meaning burying themselves into Nakata's ears. Alistair did not relent his intense stare, it was almost as if all light in the cave, that of course came from the fire, instead projected itself from his eyes.

Nakata looked into Alistair's eyes and while he sought to look away, he stared, not only because he felt compelled, but through force of will and determination.
"The world is in danger on a day to day basis from human beings themselves. I know there are others with powers far exceeding my own and still I would stand up and fight to protect this world. I don't know what my purpose in life is, I don't know why I'm here, but with the power I do have, I know that it's not for the purposes of evil, and if this world is in danger from something I will stand alone if need be to fight it. If why you're here is for stopping this then tell me who you are, tell me why you would seek to stop it and why you feel you must stand alone and I will help you gladly, walking blindly behind you to help you do it."

Nakata couldn't tell where exactly his words were coming from. Perhaps they were being brought about by the stare he was getting from Alistair, perhaps they were his true feelings, and perhaps he had found a sense of friendship in this strange and possibly fleeting friendship. Whatever the reason, Naka was there and he had come this far.
"What is your purpose Alistair-dono? For what reason do you risk your life for a stranger? What is your power? What drives you to use it? These are all questions I would ask of you." He said, his voice raising slightly now, though more for the will power to press on against Alistair's gaze than out of anger or defensiveness. He had questions and still had will to ask them yet.

It would finally be that the room returned to normal as Alistair relaxed once more with a smile. "My purpose is to ensure ones such as yourself still have a future worth protecting." He said. "And that is all the reason I need to do what I do. Come." He said, standing up. "If your words are true, then you will have no issue proving it to me. If you can prove to me that your words are more than mere fantasy, then I will bestow my knowledge upon you." He removed the bear meat -which was now toasted quite nicely.. perhaps slightly burnt - from the fire. He offered Nakata a piece before beginning to dig in himself. Of course, truly the meat must have been quite hot still. But he didn't seem to mind it.

"Right after we eat, of course!" His stomach growled as if in anticipation.

Naka tore off pieces of the bear meat and began to eat. He took his time eating, but whatever Alistair had in mind was something he felt he would be able to handle. After all, if he couldn't then why even bother having these powers.
"Alright you have a deal." He said with a smile as he tore off another chunk. During their meal time he was also spending time trying to fashion the hide into clothing. After failing for a bit he finally decided that the best way to go about this would be to make a to make a cloak out of it, which he did by cutting off some excess shoelace and poking a hole in two points and then tying it to make a hood and as much as he could get to wrap around himself. At the very least he was satisfied with that and he then began to eat quickly to make sure he got enough to keep his own energy up.

After the meal, he stood and stretched, seemingly satisfied. "How well can you see in the dark? We're going in." He said, looking to the far end of the cave. "I explored a bit while you were sleeping, after about fifteen minutes time I still had not reached the end. By my estimate, it descends far underground. There is no telling what we may find." Hopefully not what he was looking for.

There were mortal beings up above them. They could feel that something was close by. Would they be the ones that made up their meal that day? What an easy hunt this would be! How often did the food come to them. Oh yes! They could barely contain their excitement. It looked like this would be a great feeding area... for a while.

Naka shook his head. He couldn't see in the dark any better than most humans, and while he had studied blind fighting, he really wasn't at all good at it and it didn't help with objects that didn't move.
"Given the fact that about ninety nine percent of all creatures on the planet have vision that requires light in order to see, I can't see very well in the dark." He explained. With that he walked slowly toward the direction Alistair had said he explored.
