Samuel didn't want to do this. He didn't want to live in a place by himself, a place without any sense of familiarity. Everything was alien. The school was alien, the way things were done were alien, the teachers were alien... hell, some of the people actually were aliens. For every student who looked human (or at least mostly human like he did), another one wouldn't have ever passed as anything but a monster.

Maybe monster was the wrong word, but he couldn't think of anything better.

The room was big. Too big. People probably would have said it was small, but Samuel had grown up in a room that was practically a shoe box, so the difference in size was huge. The small bedroom that was his own was easily the size of the apartment he'd shared with his mother, and the room joined to it--with a couch and more living space--was just extra space that seemed completely unnecessary.

Samuel paced in front of his bed, the door open. He was going to have a roommate. A roommate who was going to come live in the same room with him. He hoped they were nice, but most of all he hoped they were going to... well, be normal. What if they were some kind of vampire?

He really, really hoped they weren't a vampire.

If Iesha could summarize her entire experience at the Starlight Academy, it was... surreal, like a misty dream really. A few months ago she was in a derelict warehouse in the middle of desert counting her days... and now... she is here on this island with children of... all sorts! Most of them appeared human but... they could easily be supernaturals in disguise. Then there are the obvious non-humans like herself. Still, she tried to slither by everyone as she was so unused to seeing so many children walking about so freely and she just wanted to enclose herself in safety of the dorm. Afterall... she had little experiance with talking to others she... she had no idea what to say. Thankfully she could worry about trying to be social for another time since she now at her designated room without speaking to anyone along the way!

Iesha slowly opens the door and pokes her head through the door, hiding the rest of her body behind the door frame as she inspects the room. The moment she does so, she freezes like a deer in headlights as she makes eye contact with the lone boy in the otherwise spacious room. She was not prepared for meeting her roommate so soon. There was stagnet pause when Iesha realizes that she was being an idiot for not saying anything and tries to introduce herself.

"Hi... I'm Iesha and... and..."

Iesha pauses, choking on her words as she tries to redo her introduction once more.

"H-hi! I'm Iesha... and... ummm.... hi! I'm Iesha! Its good to uh... uhhh... uhh... hi! I'm.... I'm Iesha... and... I''m... no... ummm.... ummm... hi... I'm... I'm..."

Iesha looks down to the floor, she blew it. She could barely get her name out before she suddenly forgot how to say the words. It was all so clear in her head but they somehow just... turn into jello the moment they left her mouth. Her attempts to recover left her coming off more like a broken record player. So much for a good first impression. With a sigh, Iesha tries introduce herself one more time.

"Hi... ummm... I'm Iesha. Your nice to meet! NO! I mean its nice meet you! And... and..."

Iesha could hear snickering in the halls. She turned to see one of the girls watching her from another dorm turn her head away to pretend as if she was oblivious to her. Feeling slightly defeated, she turns back the boy with pleading eyes as she asks:

"Can I come in now?"

Samuel thought he was pretty awkward. He was quiet. He was bad with people. For the most part he did his best to stay out of other people's way.

But this? This was something entirely new.

He was distracted by the sound of someone greeting him from the door, glancing up to find someone--probably his roommate. His first impression was simple enough: She was a girl. He hadn't realized that the dorms were co-ed, but considering that the bedrooms themselves were separate (even if the living area was shared), it wasn't like it was a big deal. His second impression was that she was definitely younger than him, probably by a few years.

His third impression was that both her ears and her eyes were... weird. Her ears were a bit pointy, like an elf, but there was something subtly off about her eyes that he couldn't tell at a distance.

At least it was considered publically acceptable to stare at someone's eyes.

Of course, his reaction to her appearance (or at least what he could see of it) was rapidly pushed out by the fact that she kept... well, introducing herself. Over and over.

Samuel stared blankly as she repeated herself, blinking at her blankly until she finally finished.

Probably. Hopefully. He watched as she glanced behind her, and then gave her a quick nod.

"Uhm, yeah. This area is both ours, so... you can come in, yeah. I'm Sam. Samuel. Either." He didn't really mind either way.

@Pallas - remember past tense btw! c:

Iesha gave Samuel a nod as she pushed the door wide open. As she entered the room, she revealed her rest of snake-like body while she slid into the open living space between the beds. Iesha took a moment to inspect her new living quarters, not used to the luxury of space even if she had to share it with another person. Once she felt acclimated to her new surroundings, she placed her plain looking backpack down upon the couch and twisted her body to face Samuel. Iesha gave him a good look over, noting that he seemed more mature then her but she could be mistaken as fare as she knows. So far Samuel had not drawn attention to her sloppy introduction which she was quietly thankful for.

"Samuel. Thats... a nice name." Remarked Iesha before she became quite once more.

After looking away for a moment, Iesha forced a smile on her face as she stares at Samuel with unblinking eyes. Talking to others had proved difficult for Iesha so but knew very well that she needed to push her self out there.

"Ummm... so.... what things do you like?" Inquired the girl, continuing to stare at him as she fidgets about with her fingers.

@Thoth - ((Okey, I thanks for the heads up. I will try to be better about that in the future.))

That was, uh... oh. Samuel found himself firmly at a loss for words as he stared (unable to stop himself) at her lower half. Or where her lower half should be. Really, even half of her upper half was still snakelike, because she was... well, she was very long. Very long. Extremely long. In fact as she slid in, he kept waiting for it to stop, and it just kept going.

She was a... a what? A snake person? There was a name for that, but he couldn't remember what it was. Something from greek myths, only they hadn't covered that for years and he couldn't remember to save his life.

She was sitting on the couch, only she wasn't really sitting because there was another ten feet of snake trailed out behind her.

Samuel wasn't going to get over it anytime soon.

"I - uhm, yes," he added lamely, having mostly missed the first thing she said. Something about his name. "So is Iesha. That's... uhm, somewhere... Africa?" He guessed lamely, unclear if she was even going to be from earth. Were snake people from earth? Was she from a parallel reality or something?

It was probably time he stopped beating around the ten feet of tail in the room.

"I like, uhm, the food here. Are you a snake person? Sorry, I don't really know what you'd call it."

Wait a second, didn't snakes eat birds?

Iesha was caught off guard when Samuel deduced that she was from Africa but then realized a moment later that it must of been that her name was very... African? She didn't really know a lot of other people to know if it was a common name from where she was from. Even more surprising to her was that Sam did not know what she was. She had assumed that almost everyone would know what kind of species she was since she was among other supernatural species like herself but... that was probably a poor assumption on her part and it certainly explained all of the stares she received on her way to the dorm.

"Oh! You... do not know? I kinda thought... nevermind. I am what you call a Lamia so... yes... a snake person I guess. Oh... I like food too... I guess that is something we have in common."

As Iesha spoke, she realized that Samuel might not be not be as human as she thought him to be. Afterall, he had no idea that she was a Lamia so... he could be something really many would find obvious but was somehow totally aloof to.

"So... are you a... person person? Cause... you look very... persony."

As she waited for an answer, Iesha pondered the true identity of her roommate. Demi human? Jinn? Wizard? Witch? A spirit? A ghoul? Wait was he UNDEAD?

While technically correct, As far as his brain was concerned he was completely wrong. Sam was thinking of somewhere farther south like the Congo, but technically she was from Africa.

Lamia was definitely not the word he was thinking of, and he squinted for a moment.

"Is that - wait, is that the same thing as a naga, or is a naga different?" Hadn't he seen some in a book another kid was reading? On the cover or something. A snake person, either way.

When the topic of him being a person person came up, Samuel fidgeted. He could lie. He could easily say he was a human and that was that. It's not like anyone would know.

But he would know, and he wasn't big on lying. What if it mattered later?

"I'm - uhm, something. We're not actually entirely sure. Part bird. I can grow feathers if I try." Which thankfully didn't hurt, it was just... uncomfortable. "So I'm... something." Something. Maybe just a bird. Maybe something else. That was part of the reason he was going to the school at all.

"Naga?" questioned Iesha as she tilts her a bit over to her right.

She had never heard of a Naga before so she had no idea if she was even closely related to them or not.

"Err... I don't know what a Naga is so... I dunno..." states Iesha, quietly pondering how similar she was to a Naga.

Upon being told that Samuel was part... bird of sorts, Iesha slithered her around Samuel. She was curious as she could see no hint of... well any obvious avian features on him. So much for him being ghoul then. Still, it left more questions than it did answers as it sounds like not even Sam knew what he was.

"So... your kind of a bird person? Cause, you don't look very bird-like to me. Ummm... can I see your feathers?"

The moment those words escaped her mouth she regetted it as she relizes that it might have been a tatoo subject or something that was super embarrassing for... whatever species Sam might be. After all, for a Lamia it was very uncomfortable for having someone watching you shed and it was probably the same for Sam to have someone watch him grow in feathers.

"W-wait! Nevermind! I do not mean to make you uncomfortable. So... errr... yeah, you do not have to."

With that... she thought it was best to change the subject. But... what could she talk to him about? She knew little about him aside that him being a boy who is part bird and likes food. Oh wait food!

"So... you like food, right? So... err... what kind of food?"

He didn't know what a Naga was well enough to be able to actually explain the difference to her, let alone anything else. He simply shrugged after a moment, unable to properly explain himself.

He really should have expected that she'd ask about what he was--considering what she was remained so blatantly on display--and he shifted a bit when she asked, glancing to the side.

"No - uhm, it's - well, it's fair. That I show you. Even though I'm not really used to it. I only ever showed my mom, and the scout who came from the school to talk to us." Most of the time the feathers showed up on his back, but there was no reason they couldn't show up elsewhere, right? And they did spread across to his shoulders...

Not at all eager to take his shirt off, Samuel turned to show his side to her, pulling off his jacket and rolling up the sleeve of his shirt to show off his shoulder. It looked, at least to start, completely normal. But with a grimace, tiny black feathers started to poke through, leaving half of his shoulder lightly feathered. The feathers themselves were black, but oddly iridescent, and after a few moments of obvious exertion, they receded back into his skin as if they'd never been there.

"Like that," he mumbled, looking embarrassed.

Iesha was about to protest but Samuel was quick to roll up his sleeve, revealing tiny black feathers emerging. Iesha watched as tiny black feathers sprouted like grass from his skin, only to observe for them to receded back into his flesh as seamlessly as they appeared. Iesha found it a bit disappointing that feathers didn't form fullly fledged wings but she still found it grossly fascinating... or fascinatingly gross. She was a bit conflicted which of those terms best describe how she feels about watching Sam's feathers.

"Ewww... thats weird." shuddered Iesha as she goes to rub her own shoulders, as if to check if there were feathers growing from her own skin.

"Weird but... kinda cool at the same time. Err... thanks for showing me." She quickly added as she lowers her arms back to her side and gives him faint smile.
