Corey had to think. He had no recollection of the faces of other experiments but perhaps there were others. Besides, the facility kept them separated. “I’m not sure. I never saw anybody else. Except you,” he explained. In some ways, Corey hoped that there was no one else who had been tormented by his captors but in reality, there were probably other test subjects. If there were others, he supposed it was comforting that there were definitely two people who had escaped. That meant that others could too.
He was grateful that he offered to help. It was nice to know he at least had someone to rely. He hadn’t had that in years. Going it alone was a lot harder than knowing someone else had your back. “Thank you,” he began, “but I don’t actually have a phone yet.” A phone meant he could be tracked and that meant they could find him. Corey knew that the island was different, safe, but his insecurities were not something he could just shake off.
Even though he didn’t completely trust him yet, if he was in fact a spy for the company, it would be better to lead him believe that he did trust him. Any sign that his intentions weren’t what they were prresented to be, he would be out of there. “I’m Corey, by the way.”
