Corey had not been on the island a week and yet it felt as though he was home - a feeling he had not felt in many years. Although Manta Carlos was filled with supernatural creatures and the stuff of nightmares, there was something comforting about knowing those around him have been through similar experiences. It was true that his powers were new to him and he was still yet to have full control over them but after going back out into the world, he had felt so unnatural and alone. Now, Corey no longer felt the need to look over his shoulder in fear that he was being pursued. In fact, all thoughts of the facility had left his mind upon arrival.

The academy had power classes that he attended to manage his abilities, on top of the guidance Peregrine was giving him. After the lesson had concluded, Corey picked his backpack up and slung it over one shoulder. It seemed as though he wasn't making much progress but it had only been a few days; he was bound to get better. He followed the flow off students out of the room and into the busy corridor. Everywhere he turned, something astounding seemed to be happening. Taking on all of the knowledge about the island and its inhabitants was almost overwhelming and he found himself asking way too many questions. Sometimes he felt stupid when he didn't know what a succubus was or thought demons were the evil that the stories had lead him to believe. Everyone had to start somewhere, though.

Working his way through the bustle in the corridors, Corey caught a glance of someone. Someone he felt like he should know but he didn't. At least, he didn't at first. Thoughts of bright lights flashed in front of his eyes. The unforgiving lights that never went out. His vision hurried from the crowded school before him to that white hell. Corey had to stop, moving to the side to allow people to pass. He knew where he had seen that face.

Back when he was being transported in the facility, Corey saw, only for an instant, the boy pass him by. No voice or name to put to a face but it was definitely him. His mind surged with memories until he shook himself out of it. Corey often found himself trapped in his own thoughts but those ones were the ones that he kept locked away, afraid that it would drive him back to that horrible place. For months, he thought about that one boy he saw, never a glimpse of him again. Were there others like him there? Children that were taken and experimented on? His questions were never answered.

That boy may have been through the torture that he had endured. He needed answers. Corey ran, meandering through the crowd to reach him. After thinking he had lost him, the dark-haired boy resurfaced and Corey caught him up. He put a hand on his arm when the boy turned to face him. A face that brought back the horrors of his past but it was someone just like him. "I know you."

Aedan turned, eyebrow raised as he looked the guy over, he had no immediate recollection of knowing him, but there was the very slight tingle of familiarity in the back of his mind, a sort of deja vu. "Do you?" he'd ask, squinting at him for a moment.

"Afraid I don't know you," he'd glance at the hand on his shoulder and shrugged it off, "you're probably confused, I'd recognize you if we'd met." He didn't recognize him from the facility, didn't remember him, so he just assumed he was a confused student.

His nose would twitch slightly, "probably got me mixed up with someone else," big school with lots of students, getting mistaken for another was possible and likely what was happening here.

For a moment, Corey began to doubt himself. From the outside, it may have looked as though he was just staring but he was playing their first encounter over and over in his head - it was definitely him. He often lived inside his own head, replaying his life or imagining certain situations to an extent that everything else fades out. Life flashed back into his eyes as he replied. "No, there's been no one like you," he explained, not thinking about the many ways he could take that comment.

His time in the facility was not something that he liked to recall, let alone speak out loud. Corey rubbed his arm, trying to find a way to describe how he knew him without having to relive it. "We never spoke and... I can't imagine you would remember me. I'm from... the same place you are." It was vague but he had hoped that the message was conveyed enough.

Then a surge of worry came upon him. What if he was still a part of the company? Maybe he would report back and they would come after him. Maybe it was all an act to make him feel at ease but was actually here to take him back or worse: kill him. If this guy was somehow still working with them, then even talking to him was dangerous. "You know, you're right. We probably have never met each other before. Sorry to bother you," he blurted as he began to turn his back and try to walk off calmly yet quickly, pulling the strap to his backpack up further.

He'd squint at the mysterious boy, "same place as me?" he wasn't sure what he meant at first, he didn't know of any other experiments. His nose would twitch and he felt that tingle of familiarity in the back of his mind, that small but troublesome sense of deja vu.

Then boy turned to leave, claiming he was mistaken, "hold on a bloody minute," he'd say, picking up on the uncertainty in the stranger's voice. "You don't go off saying that without giving me some explanatio," he'd take a step towards him.

"Where did you think you recognized me from?" usually he'd just walk away from something like this, but something felt off.

Corey stopped before he walked away too much. His brain was in conflict whether he should trust him or not. He really did not want to go back to that place and would go to any length to avoid it. However, it seemed as though the guy genuinely wasn’t one of the bad guys. That could just be a ploy, though.

He turned back to face him, working up the courage to tell him. “My name is Corey. You probably don’t remember me. In fact, you probably never even saw me,” he explained. The words took longer than he expected to leave his lips. “I... I was tested on. Experimented. And I think... I think you were too.”

Corey hoped that maybe that cleared things up. If it didn’t then maybe he was severely mistaken and had the wrong person but the feeling that the person in front of him was in fact the face he saw at the facility was eating away at him. It had to be him. Surely.

It couldn't be, his memories were still fuzzy, but surely he'd remember there being other experiments. He'd been positive that he'd been the only metahuman kept there, the only augmented operative.

"How long have you been here?" he'd ask, a few potential scenarios going through his mind, he could be still active, here to recapture him, or to even kill him.

"Why are you here?" they were on school grounds, if he tried anything it wouldn't go well for him, Aedan could take care of himself and school security would step in.

Closing his eyes, he'd clear his mind, "did...did the scouts find you?" he'd open his eyes and look him over, maybe it was all a mistake, no it couldn't be, to big of a coincidence.

"Less than a week. I'm still very new to all this," he explained. A lot of what he had seen and heard about on the island didn't make much sense but it was starting to become more comprehensible. One thing was certain, this guy was the face he saw. Corey got the impression that he had the same thoughts running through his head that he did.

He took a breath as he looked up at him. "I'm here because... I have nowhere else. I promise you, I'm... I'm not with them. I was never with them." Still wary, he didn't want to tell him too much. It was hard that he found it difficult to trust people but if he wasn't that way, he believed that he probably wouldn't have made it for so long.

"A scout named Julian found me. After... a bit of a misunderstanding, I agreed to come here." It was that inability to trust someone that made him see the man as a threat pursuing him. At the moment, his powers weren't very strong but he tried his best to keep the scout at bay. Eventually, he was convinced. Though it helped him survive, he was lonely.

It couldn't be, his memories were still fuzzy, but surely he'd remember there being other experiments. He'd been positive that he'd been the only metahuman kept there, the only augmented operative.

He claimed to not be with him, that a scout found him, that all seemed likely, the school seemed careful and made sure new students weren't a threat. "A week...," he'd squint at him, he'd been here two years, which meant that organization was still our there, or at least a branch of it, "you're blood new."

The young man let out a small grunt in frustration, this was a lot to take in, there were other experiments, other victims. "School's careful.....fine, you're probably telling the truth," didn't ease him down much, didn't make him any less on alert, ready for trouble if it came.

Aedan would sigh, "look..this is a good place, it's where people like us go to start over," he'd cross his arms and look him up and down, "if you're being honest....then you have a second chance here." He wasn't sure how to handle this, "just...yeah...," he'd narrow his eyes at him a moment, "I don't want to fight, so....go to school, do the therapy thing."

He wasn't sure what to do, what to say, "you need....I'm usually around," he'd say, going against his paranoia, his desire to help winning out, though he'd definitely make sure he wasn't a threat.

“Not exactly... I escaped around-“ he paused to think. How long had it been? Corey hadn’t really kept track of time whilst he had been on the run. “-two and a half years, maybe?” His escape. Was not something that he wanted to get into. It was something he would rather forget. He was a criminal. A murderer. A freak of nature. If people found out, they probably wouldn’t view him in the same light and he was scared that it would result in a life behind bars.

It was reassuring that this place was safe. Corey had spent too long lurking in the shadows and running. Maybe now he could actually live his life and make up for the time he had lost. Either this guy wasn’t a threat or he was a good actor. He seemed uncertain of Corey which was weirdly comforting. It meant he was feeling the same way.

“I don’t want a fight either... that’s not why I am talking to you.” Now he was feeling as though this guy was brushing him off, telling him to just ‘go to school’. He thought that maybe he would understand what he had been through. “Yeah... thanks,” he replied in a slightly disheartened tone.

"Were there others?" he'd ask, realizing his memories weren't trustworthy when it came to this, if there'd been two people being experimented on then there could be others. "Two and half years....," he'd click his tongue as he thought for a moment, "you got out about six month after me," that made sense he supposed, maybe things fell apart because of his escape.

He'd look at the other young man, sympathy in his eyes, that place, that facility had been hellish, a terrible place. "The school will help....the island will help....and so will I if I can," it was in his nature to help people, and this guy above others needed, he'd gone through some of the same things.

"The shit we went through....can't undo it, but...we can heal..we can keep going," pulling out his cell phone he'd stare at it a moment before looking back to him. "Here, have my number," he'd tell him his number, let him put it into his own phone, "we can.....text..meet for coffee when you need to talk," he hasn't expected any of this to happen, yet here they were.
