Max stared in awe at the laminated menus strung up on the wall, such delicacies she had never seen before, each of which she wanted to fill her stomach with. She scanned her finger along each of the courses, murmuring each foreign name under her breath. She was amazed, look at all the beauty she had missed out for 10 years. Her thoughts raced frenetically and could feel her heart bumping faster and faster as she re-read each meal over and over again. Max's imagination ran wild with creations of each of these wondrous foods and her mouth produced saliva and her stomach growled starved of nutrition, but Max didn't know what to choose from, after living on squirrel for 10 years without a choice and wishing she had a choice; here there was too much choice.

Gabriel was starving , he'd eat anything put under his nose right now, no matter what it looked like. Therefore he was getting frustrated having to queue up to read the menus. He was planning on just getting the cheapest thing, or perhaps a sandwich. You could never go wrong with a sandwich.

After he had decided on a lettuce, tomato and cheese sandwich, it was the only tasty looking vegetarian sandwich on the menu, he noticed a girl who was moving her finger along the menus almost as if she were tracing them.

"Hey," Gabe smiled, "do you need any help?"

"Hey, um yeah, what do I eat?" Max squeaked stepping back, letting Gabriel step before her, she rubbed her head thoughtfully continuing to read the menu for what must have been her 15th time, but each time she was still just as star struck as the first time she entered the cafeteria and the smells exploded in her nose.

"Well," Gabe raised an eyebrow, that was a bit of strange question he supposed, "that depends on what kind of foods you like. And if you have any dietary requirements? Such as vegan, celiac, vegetarian or diabetic?"

He looked at the menu, "like if you want hot food, I'd recommend the pasta it's really nice and it's filling too so it's definitely worth the price." He laughed, "uh but if you just want something simple go with a sandwich or a pizza slice!"

Gabe regarded the girl curiously,
"by the way I'm Gabriel, Gabriel Black, you can call me Gabe though, and you are...?"

Pasta sounded nice, she hadn't had pasta in ages... but then again she hadn't had pizza or a sandwich or any food that had extra delights on the side along with the main focus of the dish. Come to think of it she hadn't had a meal on a plate for a long time, she couldn't even remember the last proper nourishing meal she had eaten.

"Just Max," she replied politely. She didn't want to break interaction so soon, she craved attention not selfishly but needingly. "It's nice to meet you Gabe and thank you, the pasta sounds nice," she smiled looking into his eyes dreamily, not in a romantic way but in a distant way.

Gabriel nodded enthusiastically,
"Trust me the pasta is {i] divine {/i}!" He smiled and licked his lips. "Get cheese on the top too, it melts nicely over the hot pasta and it compliments it so well." Gabe knew a lot about food because, well, he was always hungry, always eating.

"Max," Gabe repeated, and shot her a smile. "Nice name." He held out his hand, waiting for her to shake it. "It's nice to meet you too. Have you been at Starlight Academy long?" He asked. He hadn't seen her around before, and by the way she was acting about the menu, it seemed she hadn't been in the canteen before. But Starlight Academy was a busy school and some people preferred not to eat from the cafeteria if they could avoid it. "And it's nice to meet you too by the way."

Max hesitantly gripped his hand, his soft fingers enveloping hers, the warmth swept over her body. The friendliness that radiated from him was impeccable, pure, happy and yellow. "It's nice to meet you too."
"I guess you could say this would be my first official day here," she replied nodding slightly with a sideways nervous smile. She looked around for somewhere to move out of people's way, she had just begun to be aware of the hustle and bustle that this cafeteria created, a warm toasty air about it. She felt her begin to come out of her shell a bit more; due to the fact that Gabe, someone she would never have thought to meet even if it was only going to be for a brief moment then at least she was accepted into the Starlight Academy society, and a few other people would know her.

"You'll fit in in no time," Gabe told her, accompanied by a reassuring smile. "I think you'll find the people around here are very nice, if not a bit odd. He wondered, at that, what Max's powers were and why she had come to Starlight Academy. "Where did you live before you came here?" He inquired. Gabriel loved to find out things about people.

Gabe helped Max get to the counter to order her pasta and then he went to find a seat for them, beckoning her over when he saw she was ready.

The pasta looked and smelled divine, it was overwhelming. She instantly fell in love with it, one bite was enough to make her fall in love, she stopped eating savagely and slowed down and looked at Gabe. She looked down at her ragged feet embarrassingly and blushed turning a delicate shade of scarlet, "I've lived in the woods for the past ten years," she mumbled at her feet, avoiding all eye contact with Gabe, in case he burst out laughing and made her feel stupid, and incredibly worthless, she continued on, "I don't really remember, I kind of stumbled upon it, I was hunting for wolf skin to stock up for the winter and it was just there, and the forest looked so... serene." Gabe didn't laugh. So she looked up and took a bit of pasta between her lips. If Gabe was to find out about her, then she wanted to know about him in return, "So how about you?"

"Really?" Gabe asked, a hint of surprise creeping into his tone. He hadn't expected that answer , it was rather surprising to say the least. "That's...so interesting!" He chirped, "why did you stay there so long?" He asked, "did you enjoy it, if so what made you come back?" He didn't think he'd even met someone who'd lived in a forest for ten years.

Gabe shoveled some of his own food into his gob. "Me?" When his mouth was empty he began to talk again, "well I lived in New York since I was a kid, though originally I was from Uruguay."
