Hal was beyond excited. He had already spent the day with his mother and cousin, Liun, watching Marvel movies. The films were becoming something that he would look forward to all week, waiting until Sunday to sit down and enjoy some family time. Originally, it was just Hal and Thiul who were watching them but he managed to convince Liun to come along too. Despite never meeting his cousin before moving to the island, Hal got on rather well with him. In a way, Hal looked to him as the older brother he never had.
Liun had promised to teach Hal how to spar, a promise that played on his mind ever since it was uttered. It was tiring being known as a hatchling; too young, too inexperienced. To him, he felt like his childhood years had passed him, that he was well on his way to becoming a fully grown dragon. Apparently, he would still be a child until he had been a century old. It saddened him that he wasn't considered entirely equal. It didn't seem fair. Age is only a number but surely wit and ability played more of a part than how long you were alive for. He knew no one thought of him this way but Halcyon couldn't help that he would never be equal to his clan since he wasn't entirely dragon. The basilisk side of him plagued his mind often, feeling as though he didn't deserve the clan name. No matter how he felt deep down, he wanted to prove that he was worthy. So much so that he tried to be the best at everything.
Now sparring was another thing on that list. Too long he had had his hair ruffled by his relatives. It was time for him to do the ruffling. It was originally supposed to be just him and Liun but his mum had insisted on watching, something Hal did not really want to happen but there was no going against his mother. She also opted to have a sparring match with Liun, something that would be fun to watch. Hal stood ready in their backyard, facing Liun and awaiting his guidance.
