Stefan joined her in a laugh at the thought of tossing a mortal to the traditions of their family. It would be an amusing sight, but one he would never have done to Zora. Shaking his head he replied, "No no. I would never just let her find out the hard way. And I definitely shielded her from a bit. I also got lucky that everyone was behaving for once."
The deep breath was all he needed to hear to know what was coming next. This was an inevitability Stefan knew he would have to face being in a relationship with a mortal, but maybe, just maybe, he could skirt the question enough.
"Look I get it. We aren't supposed to dabble with mortals in that way. But I'm a direct result of that. I can't just ignore what I am and continue on. Zoraida is great. Her whole family are powerful magic users. It's not like she's just a mortal."

Sylvi

Sylvi took a sip of her drink as Stefan spoke. At least he hadn't picked a mortal at random to fall in love with, and the fact that Zoraida had some magical abilities was refreshing. But there were still some questions that Sylvi had.

"What manner of magic does she do?" Sylvi asked, doubting her magic was as powerful as Stefan claimed. "And you speak as if you know about her family. Surely you do not simply assume because she is capable of magic, her family is as capable?

Stefan let out an almost exasperated chuckle. He hadn't gotten this much grilling when he had gone home after years of being away. Then again, his mother was the goddess of love and knows what she sees. Then when she's happy, everyone else fell in line.

"She's from an ancient line of Druid's. She personally can manipulate and control water. I've met a bit of her family as well and they all have some sort of magical ability."

The last bit of his drink slid out of the glass and down his throat as he placed the empty glass back down with a careful 'clink'. He looked up to Sylvi from behind mirrored sunglasses with a curious expression on, one that was obvious even without seeing his eyes.
"You almost sound concerned. Why the sudden interest in Zora?"

Sylvi

Sylvi hummed in thought. A long line of Druids certainly sounded more promising than her initial assumption. But even still, to hear Stefan speak so casually about it was a surprise.

Sylvi narrowed her eyes when Stefan asked about her sudden interest. "Well, you already admitted to dating to her, and taking her to Fólkvangr. I do not need to impress on you that all of that is forbidden. That initially piqued my interest." She said flatly.

"More importantly, it was you who said if things continue the way they are, she will become a family. Was that not the point of your trip to Fólkvangr?" She asked. "If she is truly to become a member of our family, is it such a bad thing that I would like to know more about her?"

There was a moments hesitation as Stefan mulled over her words. She had a point and perhaps he was being too defensive on the subject. Taking a breath and exhaling it slowly his lopsided grin came out.
"That's fair. Sorry I'm just used to being the oddball and people not really being interested past who my mom is."
Stefan knew many in the family looked down on him for being half blooded, but it didn't seem Sylvi was that way and it was wrong to be defensive when she gave him no reason to be.

Sylvi

Sylvi gave a small laugh. "Well, you are the closest thing I have to family on the island. So, if I am going to be stuck here, I feel I should make an attempt to get to know you." Most of what she had known about him before this meeting was through short interactions from when Sylvi was still a kid, or second hand stories. Actually getting a chance to talk to him was different.

"Did you have any questions for me? Perhaps about life back home? I realize I may have dominated the conversation." She said, hopefully offering a diversion from their current topic of conversation.

The truth seemed both detached and all to present as she spoke of being the only family they each had here on the island. It made him realize just how on his own he had been the last few years till coming here.
"Wait, stuck? What happened? If you don't mind me asking."
Stefan knew this could be a sensitive subject, but it was a big difference between the two. Sylvi was stuck here, whereas Stefan could return home whenever he wanted and basically forget his life on the island. Not like he would want to.

Sylvi

Sylvi let out a sigh. Stefan hadn't been there for that whole debacle. And though she'd given him the bare basics, it wasn't surprising that he didn't know the full situation.

"A child of Loki had died, and yours truly was sent to retrieve him. He stayed in Valhalla for a day. The highest honor we can grant, and he stayed for a day." She huffed, taking a drink of her beer. "Then after he left, not only did Odin refuse to let me go after him, he also began causing trouble in Midgard. So of course, I get sent to go fix his mess. That, and watch over him to keep him from causing any further trouble. Then the scouts found us."

Sylvi downed what was left of her beet in one motion. "That is how I ended up stuck here. On babysitter duty of all things. You would think they would use my talents better." She said, ordering a water.

Stefan couldn't help but let out a chuckle as Sylvi went into more detail about what happened. It all sounded so familiar, just the next generation playing out the same story.
"Ah so more defacto stuck here. Only because he's here and you have to keep an eye on him."
Stuck was stuck, but some stipulations would make things better or worse than others. She seemed like she got one of the better ones. As she could seemingly still go home to visit and potentially even fulfill her duties as a Valkyrie.
"Can you still go back to Valhalla? Like to visit or guide others there still? There are plenty of people here with the same heritage that might be worthy of Valhalla. Maybe you could adopt not only watching over the brat but also being MCI's link to Valhalla?"

Sylvi

Sylvi let out a sigh. "Yes, I am still a Valkyrie, and I still have my duties to preform." She huffed, unsure of what Stefan was trying to ask. "I can take short trips there as well, but I cannot stay." There was a bitterness to her voice.

She blinked when Stefan mentioned there were others with their heritage on the island. "There are? That is.. a surprise to say the least. I would have expected that we were the only ones." She couldn't figure out why anyone else from their family would choose to be here.
