He'd dressed up, or at least tried to, this was the first dance he'd ever been to. He stood outside the ballroom, hoping he didn't look odd considering the combination of nice clothes and bandages. Rowan would smile as the girls appeared.

"Hey Chi," he'd step over to her, "wow...you look amazing." In truth he thought she always looked amazing, but the dress did look really good.

"Oh, uh, here," he'd pull a small rose from his coat pocket , offering it to her. "Thank you for coming with me." @Hyper

Michi was really fussy about tonight. Rowan had asked her to the dance and Michi, dear sweet dumb Michi, could not say no. She considered telling Lizzy to ask for advice but part of her was already sure what kind of answer she would get from the other girl. She also considered asking the others, but considering her conversation weeks back, she was sure she would get the same answer from them. And so here she was, in a violet cocktail dress she picked out last minute because she didn't think she would be attending the dance. Like. At all. If anything, all she had planned was refreshing on some runes Adelaida had given her for the week. She was a bit nervous, not because of the dance itself, but of course, because she was going to the dance with Rowan. It had been a while since she'd had that reveal from Lizzy, but it didn't make this any less nerve-wracking. Michi had already spotted her bandaged friend from a distance and for a moment she wanted to back away, but after a moment's hesitation, she pressed on. She smiled at his greeting. "Thanks," she said meekly, "You don't look half bad yourself." Before she could ask anything more, Rowan's voice cut in and all of a sudden she had a rose being offered to her. She smiled thinly, accepting the flower and gingerly putting it in her hair which had been mostly bunned up, aside for some locks that curled along to frame her face. "W-well, I can't really say no to you. Thanks for inviting me," she said. Normally, she would have hooked her arm with his, but she hesitated, keeping her hands to herself. "Sh... should we go in then?"

"Yeah, let's head in," he'd gently take her hand, heading inside with the girl. "So, uh snacks and punch first?" he'd suggest with a smile, stopping once they reached the snack table.

"I..I don't think I've ever been to a dance before," he'd pour them each a cup of punch, offering her one. "Only real party I ever remember going to was that one my cousin tried to secretly have in the barn," he'd stay with a chuckle.

The bands boy would take a sip of his punch, making a small plate of snacks. "This all looks really nice," he'd say, quickly glancing around. "I wasn't sure what to expect, given all the magic stuff on the island."

Michi tensed slightly when their hands touched, feeling a slight bit self-conscious as she was led inside the hall by the hand. "Snacks sound good," she said, giving Rowan a wry smile. She was quiet, cautiously looking around her, until Rowan spoke again. "Well, then I guess you and me both," Michi tried to laugh as she took the cup she was offered to. She'd never been to a dance and the most she'd heard of school dances was when her older sister couldn't stop talking about her date ditching her. She held the cup in both hands for a moment, until she found a rather regular topic to talk about, Michi's shoulders visibly relaxed. "A secret party? I don't think I got to hear about that." Michi took a sip of the punch, turning her gaze to the crowd, if only to avoid glancing at Rowan. "I expected the dancing. And the buffet table," she said, trying to laugh. She'd ran into people and while everyone was magical in their own way, she found a strange sense of normalcy among them. So when she heard about a school dance, all she expected was what was advertised. "Anything else I was imagining to be normal." A pause, before she turned to Rowan curiously. "Do you think the others' are here too? I didn't get to ask if any of them are coming."

He'd chuckle. "He...actually almost burnt it down...and I kinda snuck in." He'd clear his throat, looking a little embarrassed. "My cousin actually got me to try moonshine that night," he'd admit, taking a drink of his punch. "You can only imagine my parents reaction."

"Dela said he was coming with her boyfriend," he'd say with a hum. "You met him yet? Dela has told me a little about him, he sounds nice." He knew Lizzy didn't like him, but she wasn't always the best judge.

"So....,"he'd finish his punch. "I've never danced, like ever," he'd chuckle, "but when you're ready, would you like to dance with me?"

Michi stifled a smile as Rowan told her the story about the party. "Knowing them, I can already picture how they took that," she said, taking a sip from her cup. She'd never particularly drank alcohol but it had once crossed her mind to sneak one or two when the opportunity showed itself. But that was one of the thoughts she never brought up to any of her friends. "Wait... Dela has a boyfriend?" she asked, turning to Rowan with surprise in her eyes. This was news to her. Michi turned her gaze down, trying to remember if Delaney had said anything. She had barely gotten updates over the last couple of months outside of their group chat. "Well, I haven't met him, for one!" Had she been that preoccupied with her training? Before she could delve down into that thought further, Rowan's voice cut in. Ah, right, this is a school dance after all. "I haven't... danced with anyone, if that's what you're asking." she said, finishing up her cup before putting it down. At first the thought of them dancing amused her, only because of the thought that neither of them could dance was a hilarious thought. Without thinking into it, she asked, "Wanna go embarrass ourselves in the middle of that dance floor?"

He'd chuckle and nod. "Yeah, apparently he's like a humanoid dragon, but Dela says he's nice and she likes him." He hoped to meet him eventually. "We might see them around," he remembered how Dela had suggested they double date.

Rowan would smile and gently take her hand. "I'd never feel embarrassed dancing with you," he'd lead her to the dance floor, his left hand holding onto her right, his right gently wrapping around her waist as he lead her into a slow dance.

"See, I think you're pretty good at it," he was a little nervous, he knew Lizzy had told her about the crush.

Michi hummed thoughtfully. A humanoid dragon, huh? She hadn't met one -- or well, not that she knows what exactly the people she'd been meeting were. "I don't think Dela would have the guy as her boyfriend if she didn't like him, Rowan," she said jokingly. True facts, but not one she gave much thought to. "I'd hope to meet him tonight though -- I didn't realize how out of the loop I got since I started magic training." Michi would have continued mouthing off if Rowan hadn't taken her by the hand, startling her for a moment. Rowan saying those words with such a gentle smile stunned her, letting him guide her to the dance floor with ease. But all that was out of her mind once they got in position. Shit. She hadn't realized it was a slow song playing. Michi cleared her throat and tried to laugh off his comment. She wasn't meeting his eyes. "W-well, you know. I did take up a few dance lessons when I was younger," she said trying to keep up a conversation.

He'd chuckle. "Oh I remember, I think I came and I watched a few of them," not the most exciting thing, but he liked to support her. "And looks like they're paying off," the dance was simple, but they were both doing well.

"So, how's the magic classes going?" he'd ask curiously. "I'm still figuring out the fire thing, luckily there's some good teachers here." He still wasn't fireproof, but at least he didn't combust into flames all the time.

The slow dance continued, Rowan adjusting and doing decent, though he was still a bit nervous. "So, besides magic classes, anything else interesting happen?"

Michi chuckled softly, as Rowan reminded her of a few of her dance rehearsals. Even before they met, Michi was hard on her music and dance lessons, most of the plans she had involving those had to brushed under the rug after she and her mom moved out. Still, it didn't hurt to keep up her lessons. At least... up until their little incident happened. "Oh, the magic lesson's going great!" Michi replied, seeming more enthusiastic of the topic than anything else. Really, if Rowan hadn't invited her she would have been in her dorm practicing or doing some readings. Actually -- if only she'd already perfected the mirror spell, she would actually be at the dorms and here at the same time. Alas, mastery was easier said than done, and she was no closer to actually keeping one visible for more than a few minutes. "Adelaida's really been helping me out -- I could probably do something about the ritual effects at some point," she continued. The strange euphoric smile on her face faded. Adelaida was also a fire user though... she wasn't sure if it was the same as Rowan's, but it occurred to her, she'd never brought up that part. The thought lingered a little more, her movements idly following Rowan's lead until she was broken out of her trance by his next question. "Well..." The thought of the hidden garden she was tending to popped into mind, but just as that thought came in, a little voice told her: It's a secret garden! Shhh! Startled, Michi stopped dancing. The voice was unfamiliar and Michi stilled, seemingly staring into space.
