"HON HON HON CROISSANT!" exclaimed Nix as he laughed, taking Luna's hand with his non-burning one.
"Seems like you've got cold hands," he noted. "I'll warm those up, yeah?" Nix proceeded to ... (gasp) shake her hand. It would have been a little awkward, even for him - because he had such hot hands (temperature-wise, although they were some nice hands , in his opinion) - and it was even more awkward to him that he for some reason wanted to hod onto her hand for a bit longer than he did...
He digressed, trying to shut the voice in his head up.
"They said to press it French. I was speaking French the whole time. So, I guess it's a win-win for me. There was also the time that me and my sister tried to use my powers to bake cookies during the power outage... If you're gonna do that - never do it near the napkin disposals, unless you want a huge fire." He laughed.

He could tell Luna had enjoyed the handshake, but her hands were like ice blocks compared to his. Well, not literally - but it felt like it. Then again, everyone's hands felt colder than his own heated ones. Nevertheless, he thought it was kinda sad that their hands let go so quickly. Even so, she laughed at his story, which of course, being the boastful sonofabitch he is, made Nix's own laughter that much more genuine. "Hell yeah - almost started a full-on fire drill that time. Lili hated me for it, but we did manage to make some pretty damn good cookies. I uh, have a winning recipe for sugar cookies and gingersnaps. Both were big hits at the bakery. I could uhhh, show ya, if you'd uhm, be interested." This time it was a mega-dorky smile. It was obvious that this was one of his passions.

Another blush? Aww - that was cute as hell. He kept an eye on her hands (he didn't know why, they were just hands). Why was she blushing, though? Apparently he'd done something right, but he didn't know what. Anyways, her little blush was adorable and, in an effort to make it last longer, he nodded. "I'm sure your cooking"- cue the wiggly eyebrows- "is great. Almost as great as miiiine."
Okay, so yeah, he couldn't help but poke fun at her little suggestive-seeming comment. He had to - it was just waiting to be done.
That, and he actually wanted to try those peanut-butter cookies. They sounded delicious - not to mention the fact that he'd be able to bake with this girl in front of him. So far, only his sister and... well...
Shut up, she's dead, we get it, move on.
Only two people had shared the like of cookie-baking with him, aside from his job.

Shit.
He hadn't meant for her to see... to see his sad face. Damnit, why did he have to think about her? Now she was concerned. To save face, he switched from his semi-frown to a bright smile.
"Whaddaya mean? I'm all good. I just uh, remembered i forgot to turn my homework in this week. Real bummer, but - whatever, right? Baking cookies is sure of a hell of a lot better. Tell ya what - you share that peanut-butter recipe, and I'll share the trade-secret recipe for my sugar cookies." For good measure, he clasped his hand on top of Luna's, turning that smile up to eleven.
Don't worry...
"Howza bout it, yeah?"

Okay, so that happened. Her thumb, his hand. It was kind of weird, but also kind of comforting. It was something his former girlfriend had done to comfort him...
No, stop it. S T O P it. She's dead, we all know it. Breathe, and move on. It doesn't matter now.
"Gotcha."
A few more seconds, as he contemplated something. Why did she care so much? I mean, yeah, they were friends (?? maybe??) but... she'd been able to tell he'd thought abotu something sad the second he'd thought it. Almost as if he'd flipped a switch, his again-apathetic smile became bright again, and he nodded.
"Okay, so - uhh... I'm free next Friday, if you wanna come over to escape Dick the Roommate and bake some cookies. I have a dormmate, but he probably won't mind? Or we could go over to your place and I'll get a chance to show you my kickass sugar cookies."
