A Botanical Lullaby

Enelya lifted her hands slightly, and a large, thick lily pad grew from the ground, and she sat upon it, crossing her legs. Enelya nodded at his explanation for his face, but still didn't know what his power was. Perhaps it was ignoring everything around him. Whatever the case, her mind wasn't exactly concentrating either. "I don't really attend the classes here. No one has said anything to me about it. Plus, I teach myself the names of herbs and their properties... I don't need a class for it." Her purple eyes wandered from the two of them, and into the setting sun, which almost brought tears to her eyes... Those evenings with Kotah in the trees just as the sun set... She quickly batted at her eyes, wiping any trace of tears.

Corona sighed.

You're hopeless. Let me take over so I can fix this.

Without waiting for any retort, Paul's eyes flashed yellow as Corona took mental control. He walked over so that he was right next to her, and looked at the sunset with her.

"It's a beautiful sight, isn't it?" Something had definitely changed about him. He was a lot calmer and peaceful now. "The sun may be setting but for some, the day is only about to begin." He smiled. "And no matter what happens, the sun will always rise. Time will always move on. "

Enelya raised an eyebrow as his eyes flashed into a different color. Though her mind wasn't on his eyes, but a million worlds away. She ignored the tear running down her cheek as she nodded, and pulled out the small painting of Kotah she had stuffed in her dress. She ran a small finger across his face, and tried a smile. "The sun will always rise." She repeated.

"No matter what happens, those who love and care for you will always be there. Likewise, you must always be there for them. Don't ever hide your true feelings, it will only cause them to worry about you."

He put his hand on her shoulder.

"But don't dwell on things you can't change. It will only hurt you in the end. And I'm sure the ones who care for you wouldn't want that."

He smiled again.

Enelya almost flinched from the human contact, but withheld herself. She turned her head towards him, and tried a smile. No matter what happens, those who love and care for you will always be there."Not always Paul... Sometimes some people need to look inside themselves away from everyone else, so they don't hurt themselves..." She guessed that was Kotah's reason for leaving... Why couldn't he take her with him?

Enelya walked to the ledge of the roof from her lily pad, and sat on the concrete, legs dangling off the building. It had only been a couple days ago that her and Kotah were at this very same place. She painting his picture, and then afterwards sitting together, watching the sun set...And then he left.

"Well, with that pessimistic attitude, you'll never feel better. Do you plan on moping about your whole life? Is that what those who care for you want?"

He walked over and stood next to her on the ledge. His eyes showing a relaxed, carefree attitude. He didn't seem afraid of anything. One might wonder where all that confidence came from. After a few seconds, his head turned as he looked down towards her.

"You're being selfish, no?"

At that point, Enelya grew angry. She stood, and her purple eyes grew fierce, fiercer they had probably ever been in her entire gentle life. She was vunerable, she was distraught, and he did not know of what he spoke of. She raised her hand as if to slap him, but withheld herself, and fell backwards, being caught by the tree's branch, and pulled towards the trunk once more.

"Is it selfish to let someone go?" She whispered.

He simply watched as she readied her hand to slap him. He actually expected her to get a little upset, and wasn't about to resist if she tried to take anything out on him.

"What you do about the situation is your choice, and your choice alone. But if you live in the past, then you're never going to make it in the future. Understand?"

Her voice was strong, but soft, and she stood on the branch, and stared into Paul's strange eyes. Her breathing was long, as if trying to calm herself. Was it wrong to mourn over a lost love? Was it wrong to miss her only friend? Was is wrong to feel the way she felt? "You do not understand what you speak of." She looked around, not sure how she was supposed to respond to this man. He did not know her situation, let alone understand it... And yet he was accusing her of being selfish? "You accuse me of being selfish. But is it selfish to let my only friend go, to discover himself, and sit back and watch him leave, and wish him a safe jouney? And to take a day of mourning because he was my friend?"

Enelya bit her lip, and the branch extended back to the roof. She carefully stepped upon it, and walked to the center of the wide space. Enelya looked around, as if deciding what she should do next...

"Why would you take a day of morning because he left on a journey? Was he going to war? Is there guarantee he will not be coming back?"

He stayed close by her, not getting too close. Paul wondered if Corona really was doing anything better than he was, but Corona simply said that patience was a virtue.

"You say you let him go and wished him a safe journey. However, you now sit around crying about it. Should you not be happy? Should you not be happy and prepared for his inevitable return? You did not want him to leave. You wanted him to stay with you. Your actions in letting him leave may have been correct, you may also be correct to miss him, but your current actions are indeed quite selfish."
