The Paranormal Critters Adoption Center is an animal shelter located near the heart of the city. It is right next to Oceania Park. It is a well-maintained building of average size. There is a colorful sign dictating the name of the shelter sitting above the double doors. It's decorated in footprints of various animals and features the name in cartoon-ish lettering. Besides the sign and the occasional flyers stuck onto the doors, there is nothing remarkable about the outside of the building. It has a neutral color scheme that lets in blend in with the rest of the city.

However, the inside is much bigger than it would seem. Thanks to magic enchantments, there's plenty of space inside for the various sections of the center. A nice lobby greets visitors as they enter the building. Walking straight to the back takes people to the offices. The offices are where the adoption papers and animal records are kept. This is where people go to talk with the managers and counselors about job opportunities, adoption matters, and any other miscellaneous topics. There is also a storage room and a employees only area where the workers eat lunch and have their breaks at.

On the sides are the six animal sections. The mammals take up the left side. It splits into three sections: canines, felines, and rodents. On the right side are three other sections: birds, reptiles and amphibians, and fish. The reptiles and amphibians are combined into one section where they're split in half by signs that dictate which side is which. All of the sections include magical animals with various properties. This is where you go if you want a fire bird, lightning snake, or wind puppy. All combinations exist in this shelter. However, there are normal pets for those that would rather have a regular cat or hamster. The shelter accepts all domestic animals, magical or not.

The animals are taken care of and treated kindly. The shelter works hard to ensure all animals within the center get the best care possible. Quite a few of them were rescued from abusive homes or terrible situations, but some are bred within the shelter. There are one or two breeders within each section and then general workers that are assigned certain sections. Often times workers rotate, but arrangements can be made to keep someone in a particular section (I.E. The worker is allergic to dogs so they will never be assigned the dogs section). Breeders in contrast remain in the area they specialize in and take care of the babies. They're also the ones to direct animal questions to since breeders are required to have a good knowledge base of their assigned section. There are volunteer positions available.

The placement near the park is actually for a good reason. The animals are allowed to play outside and get fresh air under close supervision of any of the above workers. They go out in certain time frames to avoid problems of conflicting animal types being outside together. You do not want the felines to try and eat the birds. This keeps the animals healthy and happy and allows for bonding time to happen. It is a good exercise in getting the creatures comfortable with people. Special arrangements are made for particularly problematic animals (I.E. A dog that is super aggressive to other dogs).

Running such an elaborate place isn't cheap, so the shelter hosts fundraiser events to help them get money so they can keep the adoption fee low. They have an annual ball that happens towards the end of the year. The ball includes fun party activities, music, and dancing. Each ticket sold adds additional funds to help the animals. The ball is split up between age groups so that there is entertainment for everyone. They also host other events like bake sales and races. Their current goal is to add additional space for more animals, including adding sections for others like hedgehogs and foxes. This would also allow them to finally split up the reptiles and amphibians into their own sections.
