Michael is five minutes younger than his twin sister Michelle and five centimeters taller, standing at 6’5”ft. He has White European features and is pretty handsome in the looks department. While he isn’t especially ripped, he does work out to look and feel good. The most noticeable thing about him is the green hair and plum eyes. It looks fake but it’s real. The curtains most assuredly matches the drapes.

You look at him and you think, yep, this guy has a lot of money and he doesn’t care about spending it all in one place because he likes to live dangerously. This is a complete lie. Michael puts a lot of effort into his effortless rich troublemaker look. The only way his hair could be this “naturally” messy is through a lot of mousse. His wardrobe could be describe as stylish and expensive and its colors gravitate to purples and blacks. He wants to widen his palette but his green hair is difficult to shop for.

Personality Description:

Michael is a friendly laid back guy that likes to have fun. He loves socializing with people, going to parties and working in groups. He’s not a direct person, but he is a pretty sharp and cunning one. Michael is the opposite of a planner and always prefers taking the easy way out. Improvisation works out for him somehow because he thinks well on his feet. While not particularly mean, he does know people enough that he can shut them down with a few words. Michael is not above cheating and making shady deals in the dark.

Michael is not a particularly hard worker but he’s not disrespectful of his jobs either. In the rare instances that he comes in for work, he’ll act like he doesn’t care but he’ll be giving it a hundred percent, which would explain why he managed to come out of school with a medical degree. Being a big serious Teacher/Doctor is exhausting in large amounts though. It’s pretty much why despite having five jobs, he only comes in for his Introductory class on a regular basis.

Beneath his charm is an obvious indifference to most things. Michael gives off an air of frivolity, seemingly only caring about fast cars and the best bars. What most people don’t know is that Michael is very family oriented. Everything he does, he does for his sister. Other things feel fast and cheap and easily replaceable. His sister is the only thing that remains constant in his life, and the only thing that matters, really.

Powers:

Power Extraction

Michael has the power to temporarily remove someone’s powers from their body, rearrange the aspects of that power and transfer it to somebody else. To begin the process of extraction, Michael has to phase his hand into somebody’s body to get a grip of the energy within or, if the person is incorporeal, make contact with the incorporeal form e.g. putting his hand on the place where the incorporeal person is supposed to be. The process of extraction is painful and almost half an hour long, and would leave the other party exhausted given that a large amount of energy was taken from their body.

It is recommended that Michael’s extraction powers be done in a hospital setting or a well-supplied bedroom so the other party can have access to anesthetic, a bed and someone that could attend to them, but in matters of self-defense, Michael is able to use his powers to grip a person’s energy and tamper with their powers. For example, if a pyromancer is threatening to roast him, he can grip the pyromancer’s powers and temporarily disable them or make them harmful to the user. This has the potential to be dangerous to both Michael and the other person due to the fact that if he makes a mistake, the energy could turn haywire and explode. Michael can’t extract powers created by mechanics or ones protected with strong magic. Negation powers can negate him, but he can still use this power to a person that is being negated.

Once the Powers are out of the body, they would take the form of a glowing ball of energy. This glowing ball of energy is highly unstable and can only be sustained using magic. It is recommended that he puts it somewhere within a day. It’s not necessary that that “somewhere” has to be inside the original person but they have to be living. If put inside an item, it will explode. Michael is known to use rabbits as power storage and rearranging the power in a way that they would be dormant so it would not harm the rabbit.

Michael can’t take all of a person’s powers at once but he can take pieces of it e.g. when working with a multi-powered person like a hydrokinetic immortal werewolf, he has to separate them into different powers and create different balls of energy for hydrokinesis, immortality and lycanthropy. Michael can only extract three powers at a time or one big power that has a lot of additional powers attached to it, but he prefers to only extract one power per session because the process is exhausting to both him and the other party.

On the aspect of rearrangement, Michael can purposely – or accidentally – put the power back different from how it originally was. Rearranging is very intense and should make no room for mistakes. There is no textbook on how to properly rearrange energy, so majority of it is Michael “feeling it out” himself. Extracting and inserting take about the same time, but rearranging can take as short or as long as he wants. Mostly, Michael takes five hours give or take depending on how strong the powers are because he doesn’t want to mess up. Magic surgery is one of the few things in life that he takes very seriously even if he doesn’t do it often.

The process of rearranging could mean mixing, inverting, locking down, changing the aspects or changing the stipulations.

Mixing is mixing one power with another. For example, he is working with a shapeshifting pyrokinetic. He can take the shapeshifting aspect and cram it in with the pyrokinesis so the person can only shapeshift into a bear on fire. This has the potential to be horrifying and/or hilarious.

Inverting is inverting an external power and turning it into an internal one or vice versa. For example, a person that can kill plants through skin contact’s powers can be turned inwards and only have their body fluids melt plants.

Locking down is basically turning a power dormant inside somebody’s body. It is one of the most preferred option of his patients but also the one with the most harmful side effects. Michael’s powers are not strong enough to keep it dormant forever. It will eventually began to seep as an illness or burst depending on the power. People that choose this option are recommended to visit him yearly so he can tighten the lock of the power. He can also potentially bring out someone’s dormant powers but he’d have to know they were there first. That would be like bringing a healthy person to a hospital and making a doctor forcibly do something wrong with it.

Changing the aspects is changing what the power can do. On a small scale, a person that can turn objects into cookies can be changed into turning objects into brownies. On a large scale, a person that used to control steam would be able to control ice. As long as it’s closely related, he can probably do it. He can’t do anything drastic like turn a dream maker into a nightmare maker. This is really difficult because it’s basically repurposing existing energy and converting it into a new kind, but Michael is powerful enough that it’s doable. This has the potential to go haywire and may have consequences if he’s not careful or if he didn’t think something through.

Changing the stipulations is changing what the power’s weaknesses and strengths or the conditions of the power. For example, he can remove someone’s weakness to water and make them only weak to green jelly beans. This is easier to do than changing the aspects or locking down and also has the potential to be hilarious and/or horrifying.

Aside from the conditions mentioned, it’s important to note that Michael can’t water down or boost existing powers. It will be the same power level as it was before it got extracted. He can’t make people magically competent! That is what power classes are for. Similarly, he can’t pass on mastery. If he puts someone’s power into somebody else, they would have to start at Square One.

Speaking of power classes, Michael is a very effective powers teacher because he is naturally very attuned to different sorts of energy. For the people with more dangerous powers, Michael is not above the unorthodox method of extracting a power, studying it for a day to learn its secrets and returning it so he and his student can cheat.

Can Michael put the powers he takes into himself? Of course but he’d rather not, because feeling out his own insides is disgusting and rearranging is hard where you can’t properly see the body you’re rearranging them on. He also knows that there is the existing hazard of him exploding because of his mistakes. He’s not immortal so he would rather not take that chance.

Can Michael take powers and throw it away so the person suffering from it never has to deal with it again? Theoretically, yes, but that would be very, very bad. Even the weakest powers can cause devastating explosions, and the energy will spread like ash and potentially turn into a harmful airborne disease. This is not a good idea at all and the next time you suggest this to him he will give you a good : | face.

Can he do this to magical objects? No. It has to be attached to a sentient mind. But Michael is good at touching magical objects and figuring out their magical properties because of his experience of having Powers in his hands. He likes collecting charms and feeling them in his hand.

Michael’s magical surgery will go however the other person wants it to go. If nothing was decided, a random number generator like Michelle’s would be used.

Biography:

Michael was born into the main branch of the Ashworth family as the younger of a set of twins. The Ashworth family was rather large and its members were often fighting for the family wealth. The twins were fortunate enough that they were both born with magic and thus have stronger claim to their family’s money than their non-magical relatives. However, neither of them cared for the debacle. They were young. It was their parents’ problem.

Looking back on it, Michael would describe their childhood as nothing less than “idyllic.” He and Michelle were inseparable; they ate together, played together, cared and trusted each other above all else. They had loving parents, a large house to play in and an even larger money reserve. Their future was secure. It was perfect. After graduating college in Starlight Academy, the twins entered medical school with no fear. They were unstoppable as long as they were together.

Unfortunately, perfect things only stayed perfect for so long. Partway through grad school, their father passed away early into his old age due to the stress of the constant family infighting. Overwhelmed by grief, their mother was lost and found solace in the friendship of a mysterious woman with rumors of a dangerous reputation. The inevitable happened. Their mother disappeared one day without a trace.

Seeing that their parents were scratched off the picture, the elders took advantage of the twins’ grief and academic concerns to slowly drain their inheritance. At first it was a nonissue, but then it became more and more evident as their checks began to bounce. Michael brushed it off, diminishing their needs bit by bit. They didn’t need a huge mansion, they didn’t need a garden, they didn’t need a car. They can live as minimalistic as they need to and it will be fine as long as they had each other.

His sister thought otherwise. She was, in fact furious by this sudden turn of events. This was the first time she began to act out with or without him. At first, he helped her reclaim their assets, but the more he stayed around her, the more he noticed she was beginning to act like their parents.

The realization alarmed Michael. He knew this was the exact reason his father was driven into an early grave. Not wanting his beloved sister to follow suit, Michael, perhaps misguidedly, began sabotaging his sister’s attempts to claim the family money first by a little, then by a lot. He couldn’t stop at this point. The damage was done and Michael was determined to rip Michelle out of this family dispute to save her even if it meant he had to be the bad guy. Michelle found out eventually, he knew, and they kept up the façade that everything was all right until they’ve grown so distant they didn’t need to keep up anything anymore. They had other concerns to worry about, after all.

For the first time in his life, Michael was alone and he didn’t know what to do. While Michelle became consumed with her work, Michael found comfort in other people and material things. Alcohol, drugs, handsome men and beautiful women. Big cars, big boats, big money. His grades could be described as a steady downward slope over the years, barely passing, failing some classes and having to retake some of them. He didn’t care. If he tried to recall this part of his life, he would describe it as the lowest he could go.

Somehow, he accumulated so many friends that his status and his popularity made him so important that he got invited to big parties. He made connections there, and he used those connections to startup business and investments. There were times where he would make huge bucks in a week and lose them all in another. It was a trial and error thing. He learned all the tips and tricks from his friends and eventually, he made a good enough decision of being the silent partner of a rich mogul. The money started multiplying by its own. He was proud that he found out he could sustain himself even without his family’s money.

Michelle still won’t talk to him.

Michael graduated a semester later than his sister’s first degree. He threw himself in business and the hospital. Despite his barely passable GPA score, he was a decent doctor and people paid exorbitant prices for him to operate on their powers. He was in his mid-twenties and he was successful. When people mentioned the name Michael Ashworth, it would be in awed tones.

Michael felt nothing. He was, by society’s standards, a successful man and yet he couldn’t feel anything, always wondered why that was the case. He found the reason out when his and his sister’s fake façade shattered into pieces because of a fight that erupted for some reason or other, with the bottom line being that for the first time in years, they finally tore the wound open and screamed their grievances into each other’s faces. There were low blows, both of their feelings were hurt, and they both left the fight sore and angry and returned to the routine of ignoring each other because it was easy. Michael moved to a loft for a bit with the intent of finally leaving his sister to rot but never really putting his entire heart into it.

It didn’t take long for them to come back to each other. Michelle was the one that initiated the second fight but it was different. It wasn’t so much anger as it was sadness, airing out pain to make room for healing, and it was disgusting and messy but better in the long run.

Bit by bit they began to regain the normalcy of the old days but too much had happened – their parents, the betrayal, the fights – that it never really went back to the way it was. They grew up to become different people, after all. But when the wound healed and they found that they could sincerely smile and laugh with each other again, Michael thought that this new relationship was… well, it wasn’t bad at all.

Everything was all right again.
