It had been a long few months since Felicity had arrived in Manta Carlos. It was, frankly, disturbing. She had lived her whole life amongst normal, ordinary humans, and to be thrust into an environment like this was one of the most trying experiences of her life. Even her first days at Harvard amongst the sharks and predators that were her seniors didn't seem so strange and stressful as this. She herself was living proof that magic existed; but she didn't think it existed in such varied forms, in such strange shapes, and to such an extent.

She arrived by boat. She had never heard of this island existing, and quickly understood why. Between the vampires, wolves, magicians, and other beings she had only read or dreamt about, there was no way this would go over well when they were so thoroughly outnumbered by normal people. She was afraid as it is of someone she didn't trust finding out about her power; she could only imagine what it must have been like for someone who couldn't even show their face in the outside world. As she learned more about the islands, her understanding started to develop. Although she was surprised every day by something new, she coped. She had been a strange person in her home, and now she feels like the only normal person in a strange place.

Her talents still made her 'fit in', however. She wondered to herself how she had managed to avoid so long being detected by this group and invited here, but perhaps it was a side effect of practically being a ghost. If she could evade some of the most advanced security systems on earth in the outside world, was it so strange to think she may have inadvertently disguised herself from other entities, too? It didn't really bother her that much, and she just focused on learning about this new world.

She was given a place to live, and was told how to get food and other necessities. It was unfortunate her vast fortune was mostly useless here, but it's not like she would need it. She was given some time to settle in before beginning work at the only place she probably could work; the school. In the meantime, she was also given a student to prove herself. It was probably just some way for school administration to see if she was actually capable of teaching someone anything at all, but it didn't bother Felicity in the slightest. Her illusions were mostly engrained into her ego, but she could at least understand it well enough to teach someone some minor things as long as they had a similar connection to magic, or at least teach them to take advantage of their skills. The student was.. well, difficult, and Felicity propositioned many questions on the nature of what this place was like, since her student at least seemed to not be perturbed by the proliferation of the supernatural. Plus, she was half demon anyway, so it helped Felicity get more comfortable socializing with odd creatures.

The tutoring was a success by Felicity's terms, at least, because she managed to teach something. She may not know that much about magic, but she could at least teach a little of her talent. And that was the goal here. If you can teach magic, you can probably teach English too, and that was her graduate degree.

At the end of her time to cope with the environment, she was called in to the school. At first impression, she wore probably her preppiest outfit; a pressed white dress blouse, a tan sweater vest, and black slacks with oxfords. Still unfamiliar with the halls, she wandered a bit, was frightened by something that she just did not know the name of and didn't care to look up, eventually finding the room she was directed to. A cozy office, perhaps. She wasn't sure who she was supposed to be meeting, but as it was, the office was empty. She sat down in one of the seats, waiting patiently for whoever- or whatever- was supposed to welcome her.

Octain had spent some time talking in his classroom with someone important to him. Having his little girl on his lap while he was telling her a story to ease her as he was tending to her wound that she got in gym class. He smiled under his mask as she tried to take it off and almost won. Then taking a moment to himself he put her down as he ensured that she was alright and let her run along to her day. His smile died seeing his daughter leave the room. His cloak covered his body, hiding his vest and shorts as he began to head through the halls. He then took off his mask for a moment to get water.

Octain readjusted his mask onto his face as he waved a friend of his as he looked at his watch. He was a.. little late for a meeting as he moved towards his counselor's office on the main floor. He rubbed his eyes through the mask VIA the eye holes. He hadn't been sleeping well as he read a small book and smiled. putting it away as he sighed. "Always on my case Fair Lady." he said as he opened the door to the main office. No one was around besides one person.

He shrugged and went to go make tea. Thinking that he would be fine. Looking at the girl he raised an eyebrow under his mask as he sighed. "I am assume that you are here for me?" He said handing her a cup of black tea. He then looked towards his desk and sat down in it. "I am quite sure that you must be new here. My name is Magistar Octain. Rank and name."

Looking around the room at books and other trinkets given to him from some students for his theories and help finding things. "I will answer any questions you have." He said with a bit of a tired look on his face. Though he looked awake enough for a meeting. That would be about it. "Oh. Welcome to Starlight Academy. I hope you enjoy working here as much as we will enjoy working with you."

Felicity didn't have to wait for more than six or seven minutes before he arrived. He was a tall man for sure, and almost looked a little intimidating with the robe and mask. It looked more like he was actually a wizard or somesuch thing rather than just a person. She idly wondered for a moment whether there was anything interesting behind the mask, or if it was just a fashion statement. She didn't worry about it.

"Yes, I haven't spoken with anyone from the school," Felicity began, smelling the tea, and picking up her cup. It was hot. "my name is Felicity Chevalier. I don't have a title. It's good to meet you."

She takes a sip from the tea, carefully. It was good tea, though perhaps it could use some milk.

"I believe I am supposed to be filling in as an English teacher. However, my main concern involves.. well, I'm magic, but I lived in relative magical isolation until very recently. I don't really understand what it is. I can just do things, and it works." She said, setting the tea down again.

"While I was looking through the registrar, I noticed your name was under 'magic theory', so I was hoping that you could explain to me. It's been quite a shock arriving here."

He nodded his head at her for a moment and moved one of the pictures on his desk of two girls to point towards him. It was his office, but something about having something this personal being shown to someone just.. Made something inside him turn. He wasn't used to sitting down and having people close to him. "Well then, it is a pleasure to have you here Felicity. I am looking forward to working with you."

He said with a nod of his head. He stood up from his desk and looked towards the wall behind him and removed his mask as he opened up a bottle of water and took a drink from it.

"English teacher? Very fortunate. I had almost been told to take up the position myself. Seems that we lack some of the.. More essential teachers of the facility, Felicity." He said, putting his mask back on. "Magical Isolation? Interested. It seems we both share a similar part of history. I too was isolated as a child. Though.. That was only for a year or two... Three at the most?" He said turning back around to look at her through the eye holes of the mask.

"Yes. I am the Magic Theory teacher. Any theory on magic I might have looking into, dabbled in or just plain denied. You see, This academy lives in Magic and brings out the powers of us all. Almost as if Starlight Academy holds a secret deep in the reaches of the earth itself. A source of magic if it will." He said rubbing his chin. He was lost in thought. "Though that could be the case then I should look into it myself.. Gather the twins.." He said blinking a few times as he looked over at Felicity. "Terribly sorry. I get side tracked over my own thoughts sometimes. My daughter hates me for it sometimes." He said with a laugh.

He then began to jot something down in his book. Then looked at Felicity. "If you don't mind.. What are your powers. You think things and they happen?" Though he had to come up with some kind of description of her magic, though what he had to go on wasn't enough. "Magic is a force of nature that lives and breaths with in us all. Though it is a spiritual entity with in us all. It just needs some.. Help coming out."

"I was isolated until.. well, about four months ago. So about 33 years. As far as I knew I was the only one who had such a talent. It was a bit lonely, I suppose, but not overly so. I still got by well enough. I was just finishing my teaching master's when I was pulled here."

Felicity stopped for a moment, thinking on the question of what exactly were her powers. She perhaps hadn't truly thought about it. After about twenty seconds of silent thought, she spoke again.

"The best way to describe it is illusions. I can change the form of things, make them invisible, or reappear. I also dabbled in some mental suggestion, things like hypnosis and the like, though I was always afraid of doing anything really damaging to regular people. Like.."

She waved her hand quickly in front of her face. Where once was silver hair, now was blonde, and where once were blue eyes, were now a bright green. Her facial features had subtly changed as well, and could definitely be described as a different person; though she was recognizable since her last visage had been directly beforehand. She smiled.

"You wouldn't believe how many donations that one gets you on the street, even though it seems so simple to me. Use a little sheet to obscure yourself, change forms, applause all around. Cash in the hat."

She pulled a card out of her sleeve. Well, 'pulled' is an exaggeration, as the sleight of hand involved made it essentially almost appear out of her palm from nothing. "Not a power," she chuckled to herself, showing it. A four of clubs. She turned it around one rotation, and it turned into a four of hearts. "Still not a power," she shrugged, then spread her hand out, tossing the card into the air. Well, not one card, but a whole deck, this time. All fifty-two cards fluttered into the air and slowly down to the floor.

She looked around, a little embarrassed. "That was a power. Those are two simple uses of what I can do, but I can do things in a much bigger scale, as well."

"And sorry, I'll pick those up."

She was isolated for Thirty three years? Octain was thinking to himself for a moment. Though he rubbed his chin as he sat back into his chair and gave a bit a chuckle. Her powers were interesting as he clapped slowly. They were just parlor tricks using illusion magic though it was his turn to kind of show off his own spells.

"Very interesting, you will fit in juuuust fine here." He said wit ha grin under his mask. The Ace of spades card would slowly turn invisible and move towards Octain as he leaned down to get it. Putting it under his cloak as it reappeared into his hands.

Prestidigitation was one hell of a spell.

"I see you are adept at sleight of hand tricks with your illusions Felicity." he said with a laugh. It was interesting to see if she would catch on there there were 51 cards. He clapped. "Interested combo."

With that said he stood up and began to read through some books, quickly skimming them. "Oculaturgy... Page... 3.... Article 7..." He spoke aloud. "Hmm... Well. You do specialize in something I may assist with. Though I believe our schedules may conflict for a little while." his office had books everywhere with almost illegible writing.

"I don't think I'm particularly in a hurry," Felicity started. She crossed her arms, leaning back slightly in her chair. "I think I'll be here for a while."

While she could detect real sleight of hand, she had no idea how to detect other magical sources, or other magical illusions. A simple side effect of being isolated for so very long. Even so, the cards- illusions, all but one- began to flutter back to the four of clubs, stacking neatly on top and under in new deck order. She leaned down and picked up the deck, and was immediately confused. It was ever so slightly too short for all the cards to be present. She'd held enough decks to be acutely aware of any differences. She looked around her chair, but didn't see anything. A bit confused- maybe she had just made a mistake somewhere- she tried to ignore the feeling.

She looked over at him as he was reading from the book. She knew a few languages, her native French and her fluent English, plus a bit of German, Dutch, and Italian from her travels.. but these were definitely not any of those, and probably not something that existed on the 'normal' earth, anyway. Oculaturgy.. so, like, eye magic, or something. She guessed that made sense.

"Based on how elaborate this whole place seems, I find it really odd that no one found me before just recently. My idea was that maybe my powers also passively protected myself from detection. I did a little reading at the library here, and I think that was something that was possible. What languages are there over there, anyway? I pick out a book on magic and it's just runes or something. There were some in French and English too, but some of them were just beyond me."

Octain was still reading through the book and trying to find out what to tell her to maybe help her with her powers or something she can do. Sitting back at his desk trying to find out what he could do to help her. He rubbed his eyes for a moment. HE was a little tired as well as trying to find what he needed to do for the day. He had other things to do on top of this.

"I have no hurry for the day. Feel free to stay here if you still have questions." He said still reading through the book with what he calls 'Linguis Octavius' Though no one could read it but him. It was an ancient dialect that even he didn't know the name to.

"Well.. A lot of other creatures come to this school with their own languages. Though most of our libraries are with the languages of the world. At the school here it is filled with many other. Draconic, Elven, High and Low Gothic for one person."

Felicity nodded. It wasn't that far of a stretch. "If you have any books or otherwise that might be relevant, just forward them to me so I can study them. I suppose I'm just lacking in study material." she asked, idly playing with the deck, shuffling it in her hands in an obviously practiced and true fluid motion.

Really, she probably wanted to learn some other types of magic too. She didn't know how well she would adapt to other things, but her skills were very limited in scope and while that was enough to get by in the human world, the story was rather different in this place. If she wanted to survive, she probably needed to acquire a few new skills. It also seemed like a lot of these mages lived a lot longer, and that was something she was definitely interested in.

"That and any other beginner things you would suggest. I feel fairly confident in my, uh.. oculamancy, or whatever, but everything else is new to me. Figuring out my connection to magic and then taking advantage of it will probably take a while, but I'll put the work in while I'm here."
