@"Kaya and Gang"

Sid had convinced him to help.

That was the only reason he was at the docks, waiting for another boat of students.

Wei rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet, feeling the warm wood of the docks on his feet and the cool wind in his fur. He'd elected to wear shorts today, mainly because, according to Sid, wearing a skirt to lift a student's potentially very heavy luggage was just asking for trouble, though the drow told him he would only have to worry about the things that he could carry. Sid, being the hulking black behemoth he was, would deal with anything that was more than 50 lbs.

He covered his eyes as he saw a ship sporting a blue flag. The long-awaited ship of students. Wei stood nearer to where the ramp was supposed to come down, ready to great his new schoolmates.

Ai was standing with her small suitcases of cloths looking at the on coming island. She felt excited but with some anxiety. There were so many people she didn't know and she stayed near the back of the group. Most of them seemed to know each other or were returning to the island, no one really came close to her as she moved forward through the boat to try to get off the boat first, she was much smaller then everyone so it wasn't hard to be over looked as she moved especially with her heavier bags then everyone else.

When they reached the dock she pushed herself forward and to the side so she wasn't stuck on the boat with everyone. When she was out of the crowd they streamed out off on their own and didn't seem to need help with their bags. Ai however could feel her arms getting tired and now she was going to need to walk to the school and to the dorms. With a sigh she walked down the ramp a short bit lugging her two bags with her and was contemplating why she had received a letter for a school in the middle of no where ocean away from home and her family. No one else in her family got an invite, just her. It scared her a little.

That's when she bumped into someone which surprised her and made her fall backwards and drop her luggage next to her. Luckily they didn't go into the water, these had her favorite wool clothing. She was wearing the school uniform however right now as it was sent with her letter...did everyone get one? But she got distracted and she pulled herself together and sat up and whispered a soft "I'm sorry, i should have looked where I was going." She felt like crying right now with how much had changed for her and how she didn't know how to process anything.

Hands behind his back, he watched as the ship came into port. He could hear the sounds of tossing as the on-deck sailors threw down the bigger belongings of some of the students, which Sid caught and set aside with ease. Meanwhile Wei waited as patiently as he could until the gangplank was lowered and students walked off in throngs, chatting amiably with one another and not paying any attention to his 'hello's or 'welcome back's.

Oh well.

As the throng started on their way, Wei was about ready to go back to his room and order some take out (did the island have take out? Was take out a thing?) when he felt someone bump into him.

He was the better off of the two. Being naturally agile and dexterous, he was able to absorb the impact without falling. The sheep girl wasn't as lucky.

Wei offered his hand to her to help her up when she whispered a very soft apology for bumping into him. He could sense that she didn't feel okay--not in an emphatic way, but more in the way her voice sounded, and her overall demeanor. She just seemed...

...very sad.

"Hey, don't worry about it. Everything's alright."

He looked at her bags, still laying on the ground. "Do you want me to help you get to your dorm?" he asked softly.

Ai was looking at her knees and as she stood up slowly under her own power she kept looking at the ground. It was an embarrassment to be so clumsy on her first day here, this boy was being nice to her though and she shook her head in the positive for needing help getting to the dorms. She whispered a "Thank you" in her soft voice. She then picked up one of her bags in two hands and lifted it with ease. Although she didn't know how strong the monkey boy was going to be, her bags had tons of cloths in it. Although he did remind her of her own brother.

Pushing her long hair behind her ear she waited for him to begin walking before following. It took her a while but she gathered her courage to ask the boy some questions "Um....what's your name? Do you go to the school here?" Her soft voice hopefully carrying up to him from behind.

"Don't worry about it. I'm happy to help."

Walking past her, he picked up another one of her bags. It was heavier than he expected, but it wasn't too heavy for him to carry. He picked it up and settled it on his shoulder, he glanced at her to make sure she was okay carrying her other bag before walking towards the dorm.

She was about the same height as him, maybe a little shorter, so he imagined she was in the same grade.

Then again, maybe that was an incorrect assumption, considering he was much shorter than he should be given his age and grade level.

Either way, he set out towards the school. It would be easier to get there and then correct their course to whichever dorm she needed to get to later.

"My name is Wei Hu Sun. I'm a student at the high school. You?"

Ai still felt sorry that this boy was having to help her, even if he sounded happy to do so. Shortly after asking him her questions she found his name to be Wei and he was in high school. Then he asked about her, she looked down away from him not liking the attention now diverted onto her. "My name is Ai Zodiac, I will be a second year high schooler." She blushed ever so slightly as she answered the question in her quiet way.

Not wanting to keep the attention on herself she looked to where she was going before she Wei's tail caught her attention. "What kind of monkey are you? My brother is a Lion tailed macaque. He's always trying to cheer me up..." she quieted as her thoughts turned to her family.

Ai Zodiac? What an odd name...

In Chinese, ai was the word used to mean love but Zodiac was an already translated concept which didn't make any sense to him when he was thinking in terms of his first language. The more he thought about her name, the more he got mentally lost in in it, trying to understand it as a Chinese name only to repeatedly get confused by the fact that Zodiac was not a Chinese name.

Names in general were confusing, he thought.

When she asked what kind of monkey he was, his tail twitched pensively.

"My closest monkey relative is the Golden Snub Nosed Monkey." He responded cheerfully. He was always more than happy to carry a conversation, especially with someone who seemed to be so obviously uncomfortable like Ai was. He was the welcome wagon after all--it was his job to make new students feel comfortable. "They usually have blue faces, but I'm glad we phased that out.

"Could you imagine me with a blue face? It'd look so weird!"

"I'm sorry you look a little confused...my name is Ai, my eldest siblings got tired of saying 'of the Zodiacs' so they shortened it to a last name. In my village in the Himalayas it means the same thing...although were all like fourth or fifth cousins and partially immortal...so yeah..." Ai blushed a little as she spoke as if she was familiar with Wei. Having him be a monkey was helping her thinking she was going to fit in but then she would remember she knew truely nothing about him.

She did giggle a little at his joke though. "You should see my brother. Some people think he looks ridiculous." she smiled a shy smile while also trying to not be to open with a stranger like him.

When Ai explained the semantics of her name, Wei listened closely, nodding every now and again to show that he was actually listening and taking in the words she was saying. It didn't make her name any less confusing from the standpoint that the part of his brain that told him to interpret it as Chinese kept slamming headfirst into non-Chinese words, but that was fine. He'd get over it.

Eventually.

Maybe.

Then Ai mentioned that she had a brother. Oh right, apparently her brother was a monkey person like him, and her family lived in the Himalayas. The two of them still had a ways to go before they would be at the school--the curse of having short legs, he guessed.

"Hey, what part of the Himalayas are you from?"

Ai kind of blushed as she continued to look at the ground. All her explaining did seemed to only confuse the poor monkey more. "Are we not suppose to speak in English here? I don't think most people would understand my familys language..." after stopping for a few seconds she shook her hands at the sting they felt. "I wish my brothers hadn't packed these so full..." she whispered to herself, she turned back to Wei and spoke up but her mind switched from English to what she spoke to her siblings. Her voice sounded like the song of the stars and had a melody like she brought order to the cause of the world around her. It took her only moments to realize what she had done and blushed again picking up her suit case.

Ai was glad that Wei didn't hear her though for she had said ' you fur is really pretty.' and she didn't know if that was something one could say to someone you just met that day. "I think somewhere in China. I couldn't give you exacts...im sorry...you? Where are you from?"
