The paved streets were home. At least they were now. No matter if he was as student of the Academy. Kai would never retreat to the student living quarters, ever. He had people waiting for his return back. Kai was moving at a light jog, though he could move faster than a human. He was blending in with the crowds. The smell of smoke filled the air, and caused him to wonder what was going on. As he got closer to the park where he stayed most nights, it grew stronger. Kai had set up small makeshift shelters hidden into the surrounding structures of the seemingly abandoned locale. He could hear a few of his friends crying, and grew anxious, as well as frightened.

He ran. Kaisu picked up the pace to see a few of the structures ablaze. A young girl he cared for, who'd run from home came sprinting to him. "Kaisu! They tore it down!" The girl wailed, and he could feel the overwhelming sadness. He knew part of it was the empathy, but also his lament at the incident. He'd have to rebuild it to protect them. Kaisu could feel himself growing angry then, It'd also been quite a long time sine he'd seen Ren. The cat shifter had claimed Kaisu was his ... familiar? Something to that effect, but was welcoming of the kind embrace of Ren. He remembered fondly. Kaisu always had a whirlwind of emotions when it came to things like that. "Where did they go?" He murmured to the small girl. She pointed as she cried hysterically.

Kaisu patted her on the head, silently assuring her all would be fine as he ran in the direction she pointed. He could smell unfamiliar stench. It sickened him. The slender teen was able to spot them retreating down the nearby ally. Torches still in hand. He rounded the corner just as they stamped them out with gruff chuckles filling the air. Kaisu growled silently as he withdrew his sword from it's sheath. "Hey! What make you think you can do something like that!?" He shouted to the two gruff looking men who fled the other way. Kaisu ran after them, though the alleys soon became a maze, and he emerged in the middle of the bustling downtown of the city with his sword drawn.

Wei was relaxing on his stomach, looking out on the streets, casually watching the people move to and fro about their business. A particular person caught his interest, a guy in a long trench coat that Wei realized that he recognized. He was a high school student like him, and they had a class together at one point. He hadn't made particularly big waves, but Wei was of the mindset that anyone could be a good friend. A good, interesting, fun friend, who wore a trench coat a lot.

He was jogging somewhere--towards the park it seemed. He decided to give chase, skipping from building to building with effortless and reckless abandon. He kept pace with Kai easily--he wasn't moving that quickly, after all--and was welcomed to the site of an inferno.

What? Why was there a fire in the middle of the park? Why were there people just walking about like there was nothing going on?

Wei was too far away to hear the exchange, but he watched as Kai ran off into an alley after men holding torches. No doubt they were the ones who started that fire. The monkey kept pace along the rooftops of the building, balancing on the slanted overheads and balancing on the lips in order to keep them in site. His eyes were so trained on following the bandits that he didn't notice that there wasn't a building in front of him until he'd already jumped.

Reflexes quick, he grabbed a lamppost, sliding down it not unlike a firefighter would.

He was more or less face to face with Kaisu then.

"Didja see where they went?" He asked unable to see much of anything other than people's chests and stomachs.
