It was well into the evening, the bar filled with the sound of clinking glass and the hum of conversation as its patrons settled in, ready to enjoy themselves after a hard days work. The atmosphere was relaxed, pleasant, the only thing interrupting it being a loud groan from a young girl.
"Come ooooon! It's totally legit! I swear!"
Evie stood in front of the counter, huffing at the bartender, arms crossed. It had been a busy week at the academy, her teachers were on her ass about properly learning the materials. Most of it was simple enough, but for someone who'd never had a proper education in her whole life, and someone who was barely putting in the effort in the first place, she was falling behind. The pressure was starting to get to her, so she decided to spend the night out, get some drinks, forget about her new responsibilities for a little while
Unfortunately, it appeared her fake ID wasn't enough to fool the bartender for this particular bar.
"You know half the people on this island look super young anyway! You think mistaking me for someone younger is a good enough reason to think I'm lying?"
The bartender just looked exasperated, shaking his head as he cleaned his glass. "I'm sorry ma'am, I can't sell to anyone who's underage, you're going to have to leave." He spoke with the tired, bored tone of a man who's had this conversation dozens of times already.
"This is discrimination!" She continued, half joking, half frustrated. "I come here all the time and the other bartenders always give me drinks!"
She remained firm, not willing to budge. She wasn't getting any quieter the more she argued, and from the irritated look the other patrons were giving her, she was starting to draw attention.
