It was mid afternoon when Charlie and Samara reached the cave, following a slim path through the forbidden forest. Unfortunately Charlie's tail, the Sarcophagus, made the path slightly wider, but it was still almost invisible against the bulk of the forest. That was one of the advantages. The tree foliage and thorny brush ensured that the cave was not the lair of one of the many strange creatures which made their home in the woods, and kept out unwanted indtruders. It was quiet. The Autumn foliage hung on the trees like brushstrokes of vivid oranges and red, with brief interludes of green where the evergreen trees poked through the foliage.
The cave jutted out of the earth like the curved hand of some strange god, a strange stone mound, about the size of a bus, within the clearing. The top was covered in a strange moss. The entrance was circular, like an archway, almost as if it had been carved by hand. Just inside the entrance, illuminated by the mid afternoon sun, was what appeared to be a firepit, several rocks. But instead of ashes and the charred remains of branches, the pit appeared to be filled with a dark liquid, which bubbled up from inside the firepit. Nearby was a large boulder, larger than the entrance itself, which appeared to have been roughly carved into shape. But that wasn't the strangest thing. The clearing was slightly warmed than the chill of the forest, and as they approached the cave, it only got warmer.
"We're here, said Charlie to his serpentine compatriot. Samara was a strangely enthralling cobra-like lamia, one of the arore sisters who had appeared on the island. After promising to show her the cave, he had met up her at the Forbidden Zone, a fascinating darkly themed cafe, where Samara worked as a barista. He wasn't one for coffee, but Charlie did enjoy the amusing tea names. Frankenstein's Corpse Raiser indeed. It was an interesting black tea blend. He had provided Samara with an imaculate hand drawn map, a copy of the one which he had in his breast pocket.
"This is the place" Charlie said with a beaming smile.
