He didn't restrain his sigh of relief. Caissa wasn't the type to be a Karen and demand him to do work he couldn't do, but he didn't want to lose out on business.

"Good, well, not... good..." He caught the sight of Caissa's smile as he looked down to face her. Why are you smiling like that? he wanted to ask, and knew better than to. Underneath his jacket, he could feel goosebumps starting to rise.

"Not good, since, as you said, bitch and a half to deal with, but less shit on my plate. How much do you know about the Black Wings? Have you spotted any loopholes in the bindings? If I have a pattern to follow, I can create a database of potential members and affiliates to track down. It'd be helpful to know who you have 'under your thumb' too. It would make finding their connections much easier."

"God I wish. A magical contract like that sounds like it would be awesome to peruse. Figure out how it worked. But I do have some data. I can have it dead dropped to you. Video files, some conversation transcripts. A couple gigs of info."

She was referring without explicitly saying to everything she had stored in her head that she could download through her eye. Not that Kon knew about what her eye could do in the first place.

"I don't currently have anyone from the Black Wings explicitly on my radar, or I'd have them strung up to see how far I can push them before their curse makes their head melt like candy."

Purposefully referencing candy, which was what Kon's actual namesake was. She wondered if he'd squirm or not.

"But I can tell you that Nick Miller and Tomas del Bosque were the leaders of the Black Wings, along with a woman using a pseudonym. All three are dead, but people who knew them might be around."

Konpeitō wasn't stupid. Only a little. Enough to go with this plan, but not enough to miss the mention of candy. He let out a soft laugh at her morbid reply. His paranoia (if it could be called that) was all the more reason for him to put on a more relaxed air. Caissa intelligence made him want to hurry up with all of this, and he felt she would drag things out if he showed any ounce of discomfort.

Like a cat that wouldn't kill its prey.

"Dead drop is fine. Anything's better than nothing..."

His foot tapped underneath the table. "Nick Miller and Tomas del Bosque," he repeated. "Del Bosque... Like, Zoraida del Bosque?" Please, no. He had his eye on Forest Respite as a nice place to visit. A daydream, really. One that would be ruined if he'd have to investigate it for potential association with the Black Wings.

"Exactly like Zoraida del Bosque. Tomas was her brother, I think? DB Holdings is another route you could possibly look into. See if he had his fingers in any of the family business - however you want to do that."

Caissa uncrossed and crossed her legs in the opposite direction, folding her hands over her lap. She scrutinized Kon, or rather his mask. Running through what she knew of him and his abilities.

Did he currently have an enhanced sense of smell? Did he even remember what she smelled like enough to peg her? It seemed like that was probably the case, given the subtle hints at how nervous he was. Especially after the candy comment.

She sighed and closed her eyes. "We can cut the crap, if it makes you less nervous. I don't think either of us expected the other to be here."

Konpeitō cringed. There was no hiding his shifting now. It went haywire for a second, flaring up in color, dulling, then going back to normal.

He let out a laugh that was supposed to be relaxed, but it came out too airy to be anything but resigned. "It would have been so much nicer if you hadn't said anything. We could have continued business like strangers. What is there to say anyway?"

There was a lot, actually. He wanted to know all about how, and why, Caissa was in this line of business. For the moment, he couldn't make his thoughts tangible enough to speak.

"I mean, when have I ever done things the nice or easy way hun?" Caissa pulled her wig off and put it in her lap, leaving the hair net that she had on underneath it for the time being. Her whole demeanor became more casual and relaxed.

"I mean this is good right? I know I can trust you, you know you can trust me. We've got a mutually assured destruction button right between us. So neither of us can really fuck with the other."

Konpeitō wasn't as willing to take off his 'costume.' Still, like Caissa, he relaxed enough to let his real voice shine through and for him to remove the uncomfortable mask. How did his dad deal with these so often?

"I... suppose." He sighed heavily, still gathering his thoughts. "I'm not sure if this makes this easier or harder. This wasn't supposed to intermingle with my real life." He paused. "My main life." Now he couldn't simply fuck off if he didn't want to do a job. He had to commit. Then again, the moment he knew he was dealing with Caissa, the possibility of fucking off drastically decreased.

"Now I have a lot more questions to ask..."

Caissa's grin widened and she steepled her fingers together in a pose that was, honestly, pretty cliche super villain. "Hey now. I won't out you, not even to my partners. I have some integrity, and I like playing with as many of my cards close to my chest as possible."

"But ask away."

"You're such a stereotype," he let slip through, covering it up with a playful laugh. Which he then covered with his gloved hand. Not wearing his mask made him feel nude, even in a different form. He still looked like an early twenty-something male, albeit a more traditional man with large, sharp eyes. This form was supposed to feel familiar enough to move around in naturally while being so different no one would make connections to the real Konpeitō. The paranoid idea of someone walking in and spotting a young, humanoid, Japanese man and being able to figure things out from there was a little nerve-wracking.

"Alright. Where do I even begin? Why are you in this business? Are you..." He paused, realizing the idiocy of what he was about to ask. Are you being manipulated? he continued in his mind, thinking back on Caissa talking about her sugar daddy. "... working for someone? It's hard for me to imagine why you're doing something this risky when you could do... so much... Unless this is all a brain game for you."

"A brain game? Something like that. There's no fun in mental exercises if there's no risk. Chess is boring once you've memorized all the moves and pieces. When you can analyze every possible strategy in moments and react to them in real time."

Caissa's smile fell and was replaced by a scowl, not at Kon but at the empty air next to him. "I'm not working for anyone. This is all me, all my plan. I have my pawns and my accomplices, but that' it. No one tells me what to do."

And then she refocused her gaze on him, chewing on the corner of her lip. "What about you though? Why the fuck would you screw up your legitimate jobs for something like this?"
