Fweiu dragged Liun to one of the least crowded parts of the fair grounds, near the edge, behind one of the rides. She was still almost crying with joy that her cousin was alive, but she held the waterworks back until they were out of sight. She couldn't have everyone seeing her like this.

She wanted to beat the shit out of him. She wanted to hug him again. She didn't know what she wanted.

"Liun. You're gonna embarrass me in front of all these humans, making me cry like this." She laughed. "You have to tell me where you've been. We had a funeral for you and everything."

Liun couldn't really comprehend what Fweiu felt. What the others would feel if... when they see him again. The last time he saw any of his family, it was before he left into a blizzard and never returned. He did this to disappear, so he could experience the world on his own. But he didn't know how that could have affected the clan. His family.

He was surprised that any of the clan were on the island, except maybe Shul. The clan had been closed off, and that was why Liun did what he did. The only reason he thought he may have seen Shul was because of his banishment.

He was surprised. Fweiu had been hard on Liun's younger cousins. To see her like this... to see her emotional, really put into perspective of how the others might react. He gently patted Fweiu's shoulder with a smile. "I've gotta test my older cousin every now and then, right?" His smile grew into a slight grin.

Liun had almost died in his attempt to leave. But being told they had a funeral for him felt surreal. "I've been all over the place. Mostly learning combat styles. I always liked that kind of thing." He motioned to the spear slung over his back. "I even became a firefighter. I still am, actually. I landed a job here on Manta Carlos."

The banter was starting back up. He was picking up right back where they left off, almost.

He'd been travelling the world. He had a career. It was interesting, but it didn't answer Fweiu's question. "That's not what I meant." She sniffed, containing her sobs. "I mean - what happened? We thought you were killed in Antarctica! I called off the colony because of you. So... what happened to you?"

She was overjoyed. And yet...

That question he didn't want to answer. What Liun did was terribly selfish, something he would've taken back if he knew that it would seem the clan had been starting to integrate by now... but, now that he thought about it, would he? He had spent years of his life doing what he loved, and started a career doing what he felt right.

The question was still terrible to answer. But he couldn't lie. "I... left." Those words hurt to say. He didn't take the easy route, where he said that he got lost and couldn't get back, or that he got kidnapped in some wild story. He admitted he left. Simple. "I left, Fweiu. I wanted to explore the world but... I would've disappointed my mom and dad so much if I had been banished, like Shul. I didn't want to be remembered like that. So... I figured leaving during the blizzard would... make it easier." He sounded ashamed as he spoke.

There it was. Her expression hardened.

Fweiu could tell Liun felt shame, and that was what he should be feeling. If he only knew the pain he'd caused for everyone else. What Shul did to get banished was nothing compared to this. "I was hoping you would say you got kidnapped. Or trapped. Or sent through a time portal, or something."

She sighed, backing away form him and leaning against the fence. This was a lot to process.

"I called off the colony a month after your funeral. We're trying to integrate into the wider world now. If you had only waited a little longer, you would have gotten your chance."

She didn't want to admit how much a role Liun's "death" played in her decision.

Liun wanted to flinch with every word that she spoke. They were true, he knew it. He had been terribly selfish, he abandoned his family. The fear he gained almost immediately upon discovering they were here was if they would ever take him back. He couldn't blame them if they didn't.

He kind of wished it was a bizarre reason. "I just... didn't know at the time. I'm sorry, Fweiu." He looked down at the ground as he finished. He felt, and looked, completely ashamed of himself. He should be. He made his family go through so much pain and trouble just so he could pursue his own dreams. He really treated what he wanted to do more important.

Yes, he had been younger and stupid. But, that wasn't an excuse.

Fweiu stared at him for an uncomfortably long time. She didn't know if she was more happy that he was alive, or pissed off because of why.

Eventually, she sighed.

"Well. In any case, this should be cause for celebration! You're alive! We've all missed you, and we'll be happy to have you back." She got up next to him and put an arm around his shoulders. It was almost a headlock.

"We'll sort out the rest later."

There was something very unsettling about how she said that.

Fweiu once again changed shocked him. This definitely wasn't the same Fweiu he remembered. But, he was thankful, if not the tiniest bit disturbed.

Oh no. He was wrong. He recognised a headlock a mile away. Especially one from Fweiu. He feared for his safety now. But deep inside, he truly felt happy that he could see his family again. He knew it'd be rough for a while, but he wanted to try and make things right.
