you can wear the crown

<div align=center>The day was lazy, though the cafeteria was bustling with students flooding in to get lunch with their friends. Hadrian was content to sip from half full can of cola rather than eat anything, he wasn't all that hungry and he didn't feel like queuing up. He glanced upward to look at Ania, and smiled a little. Altair was no where to be found at current, the tiger wasn't strictly allowed on campus, though that didn't really stop him from following Hadrian around anyway from time to time. "You wanna go out later?" He asked lazily, meeting the girl's eye. "If it's not cold, anyway." Neither of them much liked the cold, that was quite apparent.

Though there was a ruckus the other side of the cafeteria, Hadrian ignored it at first, but it became plain that this was very likely something that shouldn't be ignored. The boy that had just entered... Boy? Everything about him screamed girl. But Hadrian vaguely knew his face- he was the boyfriend of a friend. William. That was his name, right? Gabe's little shadow.

Right now William looked more like royalty than a 'little shadow,' and apparently he wanted to make his presence known. Garbed in a frilled, pink dress, his head topped by a little silver crown made of foil. It was multi-functional, it looked pretty and it kept out people's thoughts. Hadrian's brow furrowed ever so slightly as the boy met his eye. He glanced back to Ania, then back at William and back to Ania again. "Do... Do you see what I see? Or..."</div>

The cafeteria was plenty crowded, and it smelled like the plasticky burned food that seemed to be popular in cafeterias. At least it was mostly kept clean at this time, and didn't smell like a preteen boy. "Going out would be fun, yeah." Before she could comment on anything else, her attention was pulled to the opposite side of the cafeteria, where it sounded like someone was having some type of party.

Her head turned, and the scene she saw was so incredibly interesting, her body followed. Turned completely around, Ania gaped at the scene before them, glancing back at Hadrian uncertainly. "Look at his crown. Why don't I have a crown?" Though, she didn't think she would want a crown made out of tinfoil. She remembered William, they had spent a little bit of time together previously. Not a whole lot, but she certainly hadn't taken him for the sort to parade around campus in a crown and dress. He looked a lot like some type of fairy princess, sans wings and a crown. He really did look pretty, though. "How does he look so pretty, anyway?"

<div align=center>Hadrian shook his head, he hated to admit it, but she was right. "Saying this as a completely straight man," he answered, lifting an eyebrow, "and saying this as someone who's completely in love with you." There was another short pause, "you're right." There was no doubt in his head that Ania could pull off the same look, though. You could dress her in a trash bag and she'd still be pretty. William however, seemed to be heading this way, though Hadrian had no idea why. When the boy appeared at their table, Hadrian had absolutely no clue what was happening, and the look on his face said it all.

"Queen Ania!" The boy scowled, and folded his arms, staring down at the girl. "I've come to formally ask for you to step down from your throne." There was a tone in his voice that suggested he was very serious about this matter. Princess William had entered the room- and he wanted everyone to know about it. This was not the cute, stuttery mess that Ania had met before. He was royalty now, and he meant business. "The throne is mine." He stated, standing up straighter and placing his hands on his hips.

Hadrian stared at William, confused. "S'cuse me?" The boy glanced to him and scowled briefly, "your grace." The boy corrected, "you are not the rightful king." Hadrian had had no idea whatsoever that he'd been 'king' in the first place. King of what? What's Ania queen of?</div>

Startled by the declaration, Ania stared up in confusion. Frowning now, Ania wasn't sure she really wanted to step down from any thrones she held. Straightening up herself, Ania's hands found their way to her own hips. Slapping a hand down on the table, Ania stood, drawing herself up to her full height. Of course, she had nothing on William's height, but it made her feel better all the same. "No! You must step down, you are the usurper! The throne is mine, and will always be mine! You are the false princess!" Stomping her foot to make her point, Ania glared defiantly up at the false princess.

"Hadrian is the rightful king, and you will bend the knee, or face the consequences!" Her voice had steadily risen, and a light flush had coloured her cheeks. Folding her arms, Ania scowled fiercely up at William. How dare this usurper come into her ah, kingdom, and declare her throne for himself? She honestly had no idea what was going on, but she certainly wasn't going to give up the title of queen if she could help it.

<div align=center>Hadrian sat back and watched the scene unfold, taking a tentative little sip from his cola can. Ania's outburst had taken him off guard, he'd never seen her get angry about anything. He really rather wished he knew what was going on, though he thought he better not question it. William seemed altogether very serious about his declaration, and Ania seemed altogether very determined to hold her position as queen. Queen of what? He had absolutely no idea. William's hands balled into fists as the girl got up, and he snarled softly. "How dare you address me in such a manner!" He mimicked her stamp and leaned closer.

"I refuse to bend the knee!" He snarled, hunching his shoulders and straightening his crown. "I refuse to bow to a usurper." Everyone around them had gone silent, people were staring and Hadrian could feel a hundred pairs of eyes on him. Or that's what it felt like. He glanced around cautiously, and then up at William again. The boy pushed himself to his feet, crushing the coke can on the table and chucking it behind him. It landed in the bin with a soft chink, and Hadie lifted an eyebrow. At full height he was about a head taller than William, he was a tall boy. But William wasn't having any of it. "You'll see." He hissed, "you'll see when I have your heads mounted on pikes!" Though, it was highly unlikely he'd actually get round to doing that- since it really classed as murder.</div>

Ania tossed her head; the pretending had consumed her, and she lost herself to the game. She hissed viciously when the younger boy dared call her the usurper. Ania felt watched — the entire cafeteria had grown quiet as the students all tuned into the curious pair making a scene. Ania felt like she had a small leg up when Hadrian stood, pleased to see that he was just that little bit taller than her new rival.

Jerking back in surprise, it took the girl by surprise when William declared that he would have their heads. Screeching, "Treason! How dare you threaten your queen!", Ania felt a bit like a petulant child, battling over a playground hotspot. "You will bow! Or it'll be your head on that spike."[/b] Suddenly, she knew what she had to do. She needed to gather up her army, and fight for her kingdom. She needed to protect her people, and keep them from being corrupted by the true usurper. "This is war! I will have your head!" But wait, wasn't that a line from the Red Queen? Well, if she had to be the evil queen, then so be it. She wouldn't stand for anyone taking her crown.

<div align=center>Though unfortunately for William, this was not a game in his head. Whatever had snapped in his head had sent him completely back to front this time. The poor boy most likely really genuinely thought he was a princess, and he was beginning to wish he'd brought his hand along with him... Or at least a couple of guards. Though he kept a stern face and refused to let Hadrian make him nervous. The king was taller than him, but then again, so was Gabriel. William wasn't easily bossed around by Gabe so why should he balk under the gaze of the blonde boy?

He scowled, "then war it is." He snarled, he'd gather his armies against this evil queen and end her reign once and for all. Hadrian frowned at the mention of war, though didn't say anything. War? He cleared his throat, and glanced between the two again. What kind of war could possibly go on between two college students? He was more curious than anything at this point about what both of them intended to do. He rather hoped there wouldn't be any real killing involved. "You'll regret this, Queen Ania." William murmured, shaking his head and stepping backwards, away from the table, "heed my words."</div>
