Shul was almost sad summer was going to be over soon enough and he wouldn't be able to wear t-shirts outside in the evening anymore. He loved almost all the seasons, but summer was and would probably always be his favourite because he didn't have to worry about hypothermia in almost any situation. Almost.
Shul was walking along the beach boulevard with Sark, holding hands and talking this and that and making stupid jokes about Incredibles 2, which they had gone to see. And Shul didn't know why, maybe it was the sunset above the sea, but he was feeling sentimental but floaty and happy, all at the same time. Shul always had a constant smile on his face, but today ever since the date had started Shul had been smiling even wider than normal. Somehow he just felt things were right in the world, with Sark making real progress with his therapy(Shul was so proud of him for that), Shul deciding to start scout training soon and also getting a new dog and Shul's family appearing on the island, one by one. Shul sometimes acted like they were a bother but in reality he couldn't have been happier that he could see them all again, with new family in tow.
Shul really was happier than he had been in a long time.

"Where are you taking me, Sark? You know I would trust you with my life but should I be worried for my fluff?"
Shul joked, since Sark had been leading him somewhere ever since they left the theatre, and peered over at Sark's vizor, grinning a bit. Sark had been in his fleshy form before and during the movie, probably to eat the popcorn they had shared(or more like fought over), and afterwards had taken the charm off in the bathroom. Shul hadn't asked why, since he presumed Sark had just felt like being in robot form. And it was Sark no matter the form so Shul didn't give two shits about it, if he wanted to use crude language.
Shul looked around and noted that the scenery was starting to look familiar. They were near the part of the beach where Shul and Sark had decided to start dating. Wow, that was almost 5 months ago now. Shul felt his sentimentality levels rise and walked a bit closer to Sark, squeezing his hand a bit.
That had definitely been one of the best decisions he had made in his life.
"You know what Sark? I love you."

Sark had been planning this for a while. Ever since he actually asked for the blessings from Shul’s family, he had been planning. He felt that the beach was the right place because it was where they had their first date, and was frankly romantic. However beaches are cheesy, so is first date locations. But he actually felt that the movie was a good idea, but decided that he would bring them to the beach afterwards anyway.

He had been practicing. His bag hung loosely on his shoulder, ready to drop to his side for the perfect moment. One pocket of the bag was zipped open a little, to allow for a better delivery. It had to be fluid, he wasn’t gonna mess this up. He had even learned a song. Properly learned one. Usually he could listen to a song once and know it off by heart, but he really went the extra effort so he would sing it perfect.

He had even picked the movie time specifically so it would be sunset on the beach. Cheesy, but it really was romantic. Bonus was he decided to do this in his real form. It just felt more right... more natural to do it this way.

Sark held Shul’s hand a little tightly, but he usually did anyway. This time it was because he was nervous. He would never admit it, obviously, but he truly was. All of his previous relationships ended with disaster, and he was almost scared to love Shul. But he has come this far. He better go to the end.
Sark took a while to lead Shul to the same strip of beach that they had their first date. He was a little surprised when Shul looked around. He knew that look. It was the ‘Shul knows this’ look.

Sark leaned a little into Shul, giving a small sigh. “I love you too Shul.” He had a sincere and genuine tone, a little quieter and softer than his usual sarcastic attitude. He walked along with Shul a bit further, until they were really on the beach they had their first date. He stopped, holding Shul’s hand to stop him as well. “Shul... we have to talk.”

When Sark leaned onto him a little and returned his confession Shul let out a small happy sigh. Though he did note that Sark's tone was different from usual, not in a bad way but still. Shul turned his head a bit to look at Sark, question in his eyes. But Shul didn't have time to ask before Sark came to a stop and Shul stopped as well, their hands still linked. Shul turned to face Sark, making the notion at the back of his mind that they were by the beach strip where they had been on their first date. But the rest of his thoughts were confused and then panicky when Sark said the words we have to talk. Those words, even though it was a stereotype, were rarely followed by something good. Shul could say that from experience. But he kept his face calm and his usual small smile on it as he tilted his head a bit.
"Talk? About what? Is everything okay?"
Shul let his worry creep into his voice and he looked at Sark keenly, though there were no expressions to read on Sark's vizor. But Shul had become very good at reading body language after starting to date Sark.

It hurt his mechanical heart a little as he heard the worry from Shul. But it was all for theatrical purpose that he hoped Shul would find even a little bit amusing later. He inhaled. Even though Sark didn’t actually breath, he found the noises in a way comforted him. This was no different. He grabbed a hold of Shul’s other hand with his own free hand, and began to sing... “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You’ll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.”

Although it had slight cracks in tune due to his own nerve, it didn’t sound half bad. He really practiced it, so he was glad it seemed alright. Next is what he truly felt would be the hard part. He released the grasp of his own right hand, letting Shul’s left hand go.

The moment of truth. As he sung the last part, he lowered himself to the ground so his right knee pressed into the sand. He still held Shul’s right hand as he let the bag on his shoulder slip down to the ground. He removed a navy blue box with an ease that only suggested he had practiced this a minimum of 10 times. He finally let Shul’s hand go to open the box, revealing a silver ring.

In the culture Sark comes from, proposal always gave an item to the other. Usually something that could be worn, such as a ring. It was custom for such an object to be handcrafted by the person proposing. Sark obliged to his traditions. It was... rather comical. The ring wasn’t actually silver, but more of a steel. Melted down from a similar flask to the one that Sark gave Shul. Mixed into it was some metal from the world Sark came from... just a mix of home. The ring wasn’t extraordinary, but it had meaning.

Sark finally spoke. “Shul Rukt’In, will you marry me?” His voice sounded confident and certain. He never felt so certain about anything in his entire life.

Shul looked down as Sark took his other hand as well, all kinds of scenarios racing through his head. From a breakup to Sark telling Shul that someone had died. But the one thing Shul did not expect was that Sark would start singing You are my sunshine. Shul blinked and let out a small delighted laugh as Sark kept singing, rather well he might've added. All the negative images Shul had conjured disappeared, because no bad news would start with this song. Shul felt so moved, not caring one bit if someone looked at them funny. He just wanted to hug Sark and confess his love a thousand times over. Shul didn't even stop to wonder why Sark was singing to him, he was too relieved that it wasn't anything bad.

Sark, towards the end of the song, let Shul's left hand go and...oh dear lord, he went down on one knee. At this point Shul's mind was starting to speed up and he slowly lifted his released left hand and covered his mouth with it. Shul didn't dare speak as Sark let his bag fall down and pulled out a box. Shul's right hand was now free too and he pressed that against his chest as Sark revealed a silver ring. Shul blinked again, this time because his eyes were getting a bit moist. And the words Sark spoke did not help with that, and a couple of tears escaped Shul's eyes. He wiped them off as he looked down at Sark in shock. It was clear on his face that Shul was very surprised by this, but the happiness was clearly discernable as well. Shul opened and closed his mouth a couple times before he just gave up on words. Shul took a couple of steps back in order to get a boost and tackle hugged Sark with all his strength, starting to laugh from pure joy. Finally his words came out, though they were kind of a hysterical, happy mess..
"There are no words to describe how big of a 'yes' my answer to that question is!"

Sark didn't really have time to see Shul's reaction because he felt that his knees were so weak he would fall over. So he didn't really have time to process that Shul had tackled right at him. Factor in he was about to fall over anyway, it was really easy for Shul to tackle him down into the ground. He held the box in his right hand as he wrapped an arm around Shul.

Sark was now glad he had decided to not be in human form, because he was certain he would've started sobbing when Shul gave his answer. Well, sob-laughed. He settled on the latter as he hugged Shul from where he laid so tightly. "I-I'm so happy. Oh gods I..." He just laughed some more.

He sat up, likely nudging Shul to do the same. He removed the ring from the box and offered it to Shul. His head was tilted upwards that just clearly indicated a huge grin as he looked at Shul. His head was still level, so where his eyes would be was levelled with Shul's own eyes.
Sark was so ridiculously happy.

Normally Shul would've been surprised he was actually able to tackle Sark with his feeble body. But this moment was far from normal, Sark was proposing for heaven's sake, so that thought was faaaaaaar away at the back of Shul's mind when he lay on top of Sark, in seventh heaven. Shul just kept hugging his precious robot hero and sob-laughed together with him. Shul wasn't even trying to hold his tears back, he was way too happy and euphoric for that. When Sark held Shul tightly Shul squeezed him back and shook his head a bit, giggling hysterically and tears flowing.
"I'm so happy I can't even tell if this is a dream. But don't pinch me. If it is I don't want to wake up."

As Sark nudged him Shul sat up, wiping some of his tears away with the biggest happy smile on his face. And Shul could tell Sark was grinning like crazy too, which made him feel even better. Sark actually wanted to marry Shul. Shul knew Sark loved him but the thought of marrying Shul made Sark so happy he would've cried if in human form. Shul had obviously thought of marrying Sark, he was a dreamer like that, but had thought it would take a while. But for Sark to propose to him was a dream come true. Just these thoughts made Shul cry again and he laughed a bit.
Sark offered the ring to Shul and he grinned and reached out his left hand.
"Put it on me?"

Sark laughed some more as he poked Shul's cheek. "Doesn't feel like a dream." He felt beyond happy. He briefly moved his head forward, to lean on Shul for just a few seconds. If he was in his human form, he would've sobbed and fainted. Even in this form, he felt so physically weak. He knew that if he tried to stand right now, his legs would give out. He shook his head to try and rid himself, almost like he himself expected he would wake up from a dream.

He held Shul's hand with his own free hand. He gently squeezed it and rubbed his thumb over Shul's hand. He chuckled to himself again. "I... can't believe I'm actually doing this. I never... saw myself doing this. I'm so happy." He brought the ring to Shul's left hand, and slipped it onto his ring finger. The ring would fit near perfectly, and Sark would breath a sigh of relief at seeing that.

Shul couldn't help but answer Sark's laughter with his own, and as Sark moved his hand to poke his cheek Shul took it in his own and squeezed, smiling from ear to ear. He didn't know if his vision was blurred because of tears or just sheer joy. But when Sark leaned on him briefly Shul blinked rapidly and looked at him lovingly and gently touched his forehead against Sark's.
"No, it really doesn't."
Shul looked down at their adjoined hands and felt himself tear up all over again. Had he ever really stopped crying? Shul couldn't tell anymore, and he was too giddy with happiness and affection to care. Shul looked up at Sark and smiled gently, squeezing his hand back just a bit.
"I always saw myself doing this, I dreamed of it. And I couldn't be happier that it's with you."
Shul watched Sark but ring on his finger and he felt something inside him just...click. Like something had been out of place and finally returned to its proper position. Shul let out a breathy laugh and tears of happiness started falling from his eyes all over again.
"I didn't know it was possible for me to love someone this much. My chest feels like it's overflowing."
Shul laughed again and used his right arm amd hand to dry his eyes as he looked at Sark.
"I love you, so much."
