It had been a long, long year. A long year for the citizens of Manta Carlos, both old and new, but also for the Twelve, who had spent the year attempting to curry favor with the public. They'd been allowed to set up a small stage in the park downtown, and notices had been put up for those who were interested enough to come.

Citizens of Manta Carlos had been asked to light candles to signal their belief in, and thankfulness to, the god(s) who had most earned it. The stage itself was lit with a massive array of candles as each of the twelve headed up onto the stage.

July was an androgynous figure, and perhaps the least human of the group. They were little more than a white robe hanging in the air, and within those robes burned two dots of candlelight just inside the hood, imitating eyes.

It would be obvious to anyone why the ceremony to signal the end of the Year of the Gods was taking place at dusk.

"Thank you to all who have come," said July, their voice reminding all who heard it of the crackle of a campfire. "And to all who have supported us over this long year. We have heard your support, and have decided to stay on the island, and to maintain our gifts to you which we have granted over these past months."

There was a polite bit of applause from the audience. While several boons had gone over poorly, plenty of them have made life on the island nicer than it was.

"I have no boon of my own to offer you," July said, "but I hope that these announcements will aid you. Not all of us had our gifts accepted equally by the populace. For some of us, our powers have waned too greatly to maintain the boons in their current states. For others, the belief in us that you have shown will enhance our gifts even further."

July glanced towards where May, June, and February stood before turning back to the front.

"Both May and June are unable to maintain their help with the moon clinics, and will instead focus their energies on maintaining their other boon. February has a similar dilemma, and is unable to maintain their safe passage boon. March?"

March trotted forward, looking particularly pleased with themselves.

"It would seem I was quite popular this year," March said, "and with the added energy I've changed my second boon. Rather than requiring a bit of antler, all non-processed food on the island now takes twice as long to spoil. This includes anything you forage in the woods."

They stepped back, glancing to September, who was wearing a particularly celebratory (if not terribly formal) hat.

"Can't say I'm surprised to be up here," September said, "considering how well the maze went down. I see a few in the audience who were there, too." September paused his speech to wave enthusiastically, earning a few waves back. "Just like March, I'm extending my you-have-to-try-for-it boon to everyone. Manta Carlos won't have a pest problem any longer. No ants in any houses, no bugs, no mice, no rats... you name it. Animals will stay outdoors when they're not wanted."

September grinned, an unusual display on a squirrel, and then looked to August, who trotted forward.

"Thank you so much," she said. "This year has been amazing, and it has been amazing to see everyone making use of my paths. The belief you have shown in me has allowed me to make them stronger, and the trip between the school and the city should take only a few steps. Even better: If you think of where you want to go in the city, it will drop you at any of the transit hubs around the city itself."

July stepped forward once again, their white robe swirling behind them, and both September and August slipped back into line.

"We have one final gift for those of you who showed your belief in us. Please take one of the gifts from one of the gods you chose to show your faith in."

Small tables would appear just in front of the stage, with each clearly marked as to which god was responsible.

"Thank you all for coming," July said, "and we hope you have a peaceful year to come."

In-character, each character who lit a candle may take one gift from among those whose candles you lit. So if you lit April, May, June, Feb, Jan, and Dec, you cannot take March's gift. Anyone who tries (or tries to take more than one gift) will find themselves unable to take any gifts at all, and go home empty handed.

August's Gift: A leather charm which, when placed on a shoe, will keep it and it's partner from wearing down.

September's Gift:
A hat, which can be turned inside out to turn it into a different kind of hat at random. You'll never get the same hat twice.

October's Gift: A seed which will turn into a tiny potted tree when planted. The tree produces one of whichever fruit you like best a day.

November's Gift:
A small melanite statue in the shape of November. If held in the hands, it eases pain, making the holder comfortably numb.

December's Gift:
A hand-knitted scarf that keeps snow away from the wearers head.

January's Gift:
A stick of incense that never burns out, and the smell reminds you of someone you love.

February's Gift:
A beach towel that never gets sand stuck in it.

March's Gift:
A small houseplant, whose flowers bloom a small piece of paper each day. Each paper has a unique riddle on it for you to solve.

April's Gift:
A 10GB USB stick that works for you and you alone. Anyone else can't quite manage to plug it in correctly.

May's Gift: A tiny moon rock which will bring you sleep if placed under your pillow while the moon is out.

June's Gift:
A clip for your glasses which turns any glasses into the world's most perfect sunglasses: Keeps sun out, still operate like normal glasses otherwise.

You must post in this thread to claim your gift, and this thread will only exist for two weeks.

The entirety of the Leizu family, the Kallinés, and Konpeitō showed up to the ending of the Year of the Gods. A few expected there to be gifts, but not what kind. Some made them have the shallow thought of wishing they voted for a different god when the gifts were revealed.

Béatrice would've gone for December's gift since she helped save him... if not for what it was. Most of the Leizus avoided that one, considering their natural habitat was the cold. In the end, Béatrice took January's gift, curious to see what smells she would get. Would it only be her partners (most likely), or would she be reminded of the love she has for her children as well?

Béatrice also dictated what gift Arjean would get: March's gift. They had to keep their mind stimulated. The surge of jealousy when Arjean eyed September's gift when Béatrice could make any kind of clothing had nothing to do with her decision.

Obviously, Henghai took October's gift to add to his garden. It was a bit unnecessary when his husband could grow any kind of plant, but it also relieved pressure off of his husband.

Junchi
would have done the same, but he was a romanticist and went for January's gift. He also wondered if the incense would only be romantic interest (in that case, he's in trouble) or familial as well. He had also been eyeing September's gift, but after Béatrice's reaction with Arjean, he kept away from it.

Oluremi hated the thought of taking the same gift as Béatrice. She lingered near January's gifts for a long time, then moved over to November's. It was a decision she was sure she would regret. Hopefully, the statuette would numb emotional pain as well. If it did, it was something she'd have to keep from her therapist. She didn't want to deal with the lecture on how unhealthy that was. At the very least, this could be added to her collection of minerals

Smokey, as a fan of September... didn't go for his gift. It was ultimately useless to them. They never went into their human form, so a hat wouldn't work at all. And no, partial shifting was not an option they would take. They had already evened themself with September. He gave them an autograph, they gave him a candle, and now Smokey could go and take March's gift.

Konpeitō regretted what gods he picked the most. April and March's gifts were amazing. April's could be bought for a high price, but Kon wasn't sure where he could get something like March's. He had even wanted to participate in the treasure hunt too! What a fool Kon was. Focusing purely on what options were available to him, he debated between January's gift and February's gift. Recently getting into a relationship, Kon was high off of love. The idea of going to bed every night, smelling something that reminded him of his lover... It was perfect. Too bad it didn't smell exactly like Vladimir. It wasn't like the two of them are particularly far from one another either. What settled Kon's decision was that he didn't want to get too obsessed too fast, knowing his natural disposition. And he felt bad for February. It seemed like he didn't get too many votes. He may have been a boring date, but he was kind... and very hot. Especially when he was that fish-guy from that Zelda game. Kon picked up a beach towel and claimed that as a gift. The usefulness for a furred person who visited the beach frequently was clear.

If asked why he'd lit candles for so many gods, Ishvi wouldn't really have had an answer. He'd only gone to the initial party in the first place because he thought moping around being unsocial was probably not helping anything. And then he guessed he thought he should see it through. He was surprised by the gifts and had a hard time deciding on what to pick. It was too bad May's gift needed moonlight because sleep was something he definitely needed. In the end he picked November's gift, feeling more of a connection with that god. Ishvi didn't plan to use it on himself, but maybe he could help someone else with it.

Maarab found these gods as fascinating as the island itself, which had awakened a hunger for knowledge that would've been kept down at home. The gifts he could choose from were all interesting, though he was still behind on technology so immediately dismissed the USB stick. October's gift did seem useful, but Maarab ended up deciding on March's instead. He preferred to hunt for himself, and he thought the riddles might help his mind.

Tam just wanted to try everything, as usual - the parties, the activities, all of it. They almost went for September's gift, even though hats weren't exactly their style. But then they smelt January's incense and were hooked. Luckily for them they had actually lit a candle for January.

Minnie hadn't been an enthusiastic participant in this Year of the Gods stuff, only going to the bonfire at the last minute. Burying November's stone had ended in tears. This island still felt unbelievable - she didn't know why she had lit any candles in the first place. She didn't go to the ending ceremony at all, and even if she had, she probably would've been too suspicious to accept any more gifts from these supposed gods.

Enjoying the newfound freedom of Manta Carlos, S'loo had been participating in as many events as she could since her arrival. She'd even lit all her candles, even though the dragons had their own beliefs. It had seemed like a fun way to support the gods that seemed most interesting or had nice boons. And now she got to choose a gift too. In spite of having six to choose from, it was pretty easy for the snow dragon to narrow it down. December's was immediately discounted, as was February's beach towel. If she did go back to the beach in this heat, she planned to spend most of it in the water. S'loo wasn't a big fan of hats or shoes either. It was harder to decide between the USB and the riddle plant, but her lack of experience with technology meant March won out.

Caramel had only lit a candle for one god. Doing any more would've been too much effort. Besides this god gave them food. And of course the possibility of more food had brought the young demon to this ending ceremony. They'd picked right - October's gift was perfect for the hungry snail. And even if she had to wait a day to get another fruit, that meant plenty of naptime as well as food. Caramel was very happy with this.

Alma had a hard time picking between the different gifts that she could take. There was the part of her that wanted to be practical, but holding the small statue of November in her hands she knew she had to pick it. The numbness it gave her dulled the static in her head, a welcome change from what had seemed to become a standard in her life. She gave the Twelve a grin, thanking each of them in kind and giving November herself a friendly little wave as she went back to her seat.

Dalia barely remembered participating in the events that the gods had set up. Well, she remembered certain bits. Bits that made her stomach churn a bit. But everyone seemed happy with the gods and their gifts so she wasn't going to disparage them. She took the incense, figuring that it might help her with her memory problems, at least a little.

Hella grabbed the statue of November, not even having to think about it. She knew that numbness was preferable sometimes and a way of managing that consistently was something she was very keen on.

Shara didn't really want much. And she hadn't lit very many candles anyway. So looking between her two potential gifts, she opted for the sunglasses clip because it seemed the most practical.

Gavin Greene, as far as anyone knew, hadn't really been around for the Twelve's big festivities. But he had apparently lit a candle or two, because he grabbed one of the small trees that October was providing, tucked it under his arm, and promptly left.

Gask's choice was maybe less than obvious. Or possibly exactly what one might have expected. March's little flowering plant was a perfect fit for him, he thought. He did like caring for plants, and the added benefit of a unique riddle to flex his mental abilities every day was perfect.

Tadashi had to laugh to himself a little. Of course he had ended up lighting candles for two gods whose gifts were going to be plant-related. He could have chosen the hat instead but he didn't really see himself as much of a hat-wearing person. He'd rather perch on someone's head as a cat-hat than wear one himself. So he just had to choose. Fruit or riddles. Riddles it was. He knew just the spot for his new little houseplant too. Right in one of his favorite windows to curl up by in Rafael's house. That way he'd be nurturing the plant while he naps there.

Aura didn't like having to choose between the gods' gifts. Not because of the gifts themselves but because so many of the Twelve had been really nice. It felt like whichever gift she picked, it would seem like she was saying the others weren't good enough. Ultimately though she had to choose. And she decided to shyly take the stick of incense. It would bring her the most comfort out of all the items. She'd nearly taken the statue from November but... she didn't want to not feel. It felt like could be a slippery slope for herself. the incense would make her smile whenever she was around it and that was better and healthier.

Fulger yawned tiredly in the sunlight and then forced himself to scurry in quickly to take his pick so he could escape before too many girls crowded around the tables. He chose the scarf because he was still shivering at the memory of snow. Yuck!

Arianell mused over the various gifts she could choose from for a while. Actually she ended up talking to a few other people about their choices before she settled on her pick. She wasn't entirely sure she could get away with affixing a charm to her boots for work unless she could hide it from plain view but that would ensure her feet were well taken care of as she prepared to graduate and start her field training.

Tuesday took one of November's statues. A lot of the others would have been great fun to have but a way to dull pain occasionally would be super useful to her.

Felen didn't wear glasses. But having such a great pair of sunglasses was hard to pass up. He'd just have to go purchase non prescription lenses. Pleased with his choice he returned to his duties.

Seyyal didn't have to think very long. Ensuring good sleep each night meant ensuring she'd return to her own world with her friends each night. The moon stone was invaluable to her.

Riley was kinda grateful for the whole thing with The Twelve doing everything they did for the year. If it wasn't for November he probably would have never really had a chance to finally move on and let things go with his parents. Which is why he chose to take November's gift over March's. Even after picking his gift, Riley decided to just stick around for a bit for the rest of the event.

Shiloh
Let's be honest, Shiloh only really attended a few of the party events and the volleyball competition. They didn't really super care much about The Twelve compared to other things in their life they had to deal with. Though not caring wasn't going to stop them from showing up and claiming this gift of theirs they were able to get. So Shiloh came all fashionably late to pick May's moon rock gift because 1) it was a moon rock and 2) It could help them sleep. Easy clap.

Frederick:

Frederick had attended only a few of the events, and had missed the beginning entirely. Even so, he had to be thankful for the Twelve anyway: if not for them, he'd be long dead, perished with Halcyon City and the rest of his old world.

So Frederick had attended the ceremony, lighting all the appropriate candles, and when it came time for gifts the choice seemed obvious to him. One was going to get him free fresh fruit and make his apartment look less barren, so what other choice was there?

Angelo:

Angelo had dealt with the twelve a lot. Beyond being involved in several of the events, he'd helped run March's scavenger hunt, being a pair of eyes and ears for the god. It had given him a finer appreciation for the gods, but the simple fact was that when it came time to light candles, there was no question for him.

Only one of them had given him his father back. Only one had helped save so many of his friends.

Even so, September's gift was... not to his taste. He was sorely tempted to grab it just out of principal, but in the end he settled for March's instead. The little riddle plant would do perfectly on his desk, and he kept it tucked carefully under his arm as he milled around.

Jackal:

Everyone else seemed to be putting a lot of thought into things. Jackal, on the other hand, was not. He'd lit his candles largely on a whim, and then picked through the gifts on offer before selecting a towel and tossing it over his shoulder, ready to go.
