Vos

A week, he'd been in these strange woods a week, found a cave to call home, hunted and survived. In that week he never once saw someone, never once seen evidence to indicate that sapient life existed here. So the shadow demon known as Vos was out and about, tracking prey. Standing upon a branch, his nose picking up the scents of the forest, when he picked up an unfamiliar one.

He didn't know what realm he was in, so he'd hoped to avoid exposure to anything, or anyone he didn't know, but curiosity won out. Soon he was moving towards the unfamiliar scent, from tree to tree, shadow to shadow.

Finally he'd spot the source of the scent, a child, looked human he supposed, he remained hidden in a shadow as he watched. They seemed to have their arm snared, a group wolves circling and moving in. In his home hell such a child would be told to survive, to kill the wolves these, but he wasn't in that hell anymore, and he no longer wished to live like that.

He'd move quickly, appearing from one of the wolves's shadow, he'd despatch it with a swipe of his blade. One of the animal's packmates would turn, leap at him, it'd find Vos's sword through its heart, though it's fangs did briefly sink into the shadow demon's arm. The remaining wolf would growl, but turn and back away into the forest.

Vos took a breath, his shadow sword vanishing as he turned to look at the small child. He'd look then over, "you should not be here," stepping to them he'd free their arm. "You hardly look like hunter," pulling a cloth from inside his cloak he'd begin to bind his own injury, "luck brought me to your aid, luck is almost never kind twice."

A natural creature themself, it never occurred to Azu that the woods could be unsafe for anyone, even a child. If anything, the city filled with people would be more dangerous. So they'd thought the forest would be a great space to experiment with their new human charm. That way they could surprise anyone they knew, and practice without being seen.

Unfortunately, it was easy to get caught in the branches when they had no idea how to move with these strange appendages the charm came with. And they couldn't just shrink either. The circling wolves didn't even worry them at first, and they whistled cheerfully. But then they realized they must look like easy prey.

Azu didn't have time to react before the blue man found them and started defending them. Unsure how to react to the bloodshed due to lack of exposure, the dragon just stared in
shocked silence, whistling again when their arm was freed.

Then they slipped the charm off as soon as their arm was freed, holding it carefully with their tail. The now 2 foot long dragon floated over to their rescuer with happy little chirping noises, and did their best imitation of a bow, before gesturing toward the stranger's hand with their head and staring up at him.

Vos

The shadow demon raised an eyebrow when the child suddenly shifted into what looked like a serpent. Now Vos had never seem a true dragon, he'd seen a few demonic pretenders, but this child definitely didn't match what he thought dragons would look like.

"A shifter?" he'd ask, before realizing the child couldn't speak, he'd tilt his head look them over curiously, "this island keeps getting odder and odder." He'd hum in thought, the fae dragon seemed harmless, it certainly proved unable to defend themselves from the wolves.

Finishing wrapping hid arm he'd offer the child his hand like it seemed to want. "Yes?" he'd ask, watching the young being curiously.

When the demon offered them his hand, Azu chirped once more and pressed their head against it gently as if seeking pats. Then they started to communicate, sending their message into the demon's mind.

Azu's first thought was a feeling of gratitude. Like most fae, they didn't take thank you lightly, though they weren't quite as touchy about the words themself. More than just the feeling was an image of the shadow demon saving them, an acknowledgement of debt. Something the fae took seriously. Without words they gave the idea that they were fae, royalty, and had a powerful ally that could help him.

Then the curiousity kicked in, a sense of childlike excitement. Something like - where are your origins? what being are you?
