After a busy day, Ania felt the overwhelming need to be alone for a while. She considered the forest for a moment, but finally decided that the roof was the safest place for her to go. Not often had she encountered people up there. Mounting the stairs, Ania climbed carefully, placing her feet so she wouldn't slip. Reaching her destination, Ania tucked her legs underneath her and settled against a small concrete half-wall.

Feeling the wind push against her face, Ania closed her eyes and let the sensation wash over her. Sitting on the roof was a very peaceful pasttime, even if it wasn't the most comfortable thing. Holding her hand out in front of her face, she considered it for a moment, before tentatively touching her small fingers. She wished she had cooler powers. Like flight, that would be a fun thing to experience. Crawling over to the edge of the roof, Ania looked down. The height was dizzying, but it only made her wish harder.

Scooting a bit closer to the edge, Ania sat peacefully staring at the grounds below. She was still a few safe inches away from the drop, but felt unsatisfied. She wondered if she could suddenly sprout wings if she hopped. Probably not, but that would be a cool experience. It would be terrifying to try to learn how to fly within a few seconds, and she would probably fail. Inching back to the safety of the roof, Ania still remained close to the edge, watching the tiny people below.

Seamus had some time before he had to go help one of the school's staff members with errands, but most of his usual alone time spots had been occupied by multiple persons, and he didn't feel the need to barge in on any of them. He had one last option before he gave up and went to the dorms, and that last option was the roof of the building. Not many people went up there, after all. So, with hope that there wouldn't be a club or religious cult of some kind having a meeting up on the roof, Seamus began the climb. One step, another step, so many steps...

When he finally reached the roof, stepping out into the open, he felt a breeze go by. Smiling, he took off his hat just so his entire head could feel it. Holding the hat in his right hand, he ran his left through his hair as he took a moment to look around. He noticed someone else up there too, someone rather tiny looking. It was only one person, though, and so perhaps it wouldn't be too bad to stay... He didn't have to go up to her, after all. He could just go to a different part.

That had been his plan, at any rate, until he noticed her crawl quite close to the edge of the roof. His heart stopped beating for a few moments until she retreated back a bit. Even still, she was fairly close to the edge and he couldn't help but feel uncomfortable at the sight. He walked in her direction a bit, but didn't get too close. "Uhm, miss..." he started mumbling but then realized he might startle her and felt unsure of what to do. He couldn't just walk right up to her, surely that would be more startling. So, he spoke up a little louder but still softly, "Miss... Uhm. Be careful, please." The hand that held his hat seemed to tighten it's grip and he just looked quite uneasy. He wouldn't be able to relax until he was one hundred percent certain she wasn't going to fall to her death.

Feeling a presence join her on the top of the roof, Ania ignored it, preferring to continue staring at the people below. She almost entirely forgot about the presence, until a quiet voice spoke behind her. She jumped in surprise, turning her head and scooting backwards a bit. Blinking in confusion to gain her bearings, Ania finally focused on the person that was intruding on her quiet.

The girl frowned up at him. She wanted to fly! "I want to fly. Can you fly?" Turning back around to watch the people below, she felt like a bird. Opening her arms slowly, she flapped momentarily, as if to mimic the flapping wings of a bird. Ania glanced back at the stranger. "Bird." She wasn't very chatty, and this was no exception. As if she remembered something, Ania turned back around fully, staring up at the very tall stranger.

"I don't want to be careful. I want to fly." A pout crossed her face, and she looked back down longingly. The thought struck her that perhaps this stranger would give her an answer, and Ania stared defiantly at this stranger. He would give her an answer.

Seamus twitched slightly as the girl jumped in surprise from hearing him, as if afraid this small jump would cause her to fall from the building. She had moved back from the edge a bit in her surprise, however, which allowed him to relax a small amount. However, he was taken aback at the sudden response the female gave him... it came out as rather childish. The way she frowned at him when she said it only seemed to support that. She seemed to forget about him for a moment after, and returned to looking off the edge, holding out her arms as if she were a bird. He felt like he was going to have a heart attack.

She said again that she wanted to fly, stating also that she did not wish to be careful. She was pouting at this point and it really was as if he were dealing with a child. Then she looked at him with defiance, expecting an answer. An answer to what? Was she being this way over the question of if he could fly? Was that what she wanted to know? "Uhm..." Seamus mumbled, still trying to regain himself, "No, I... can't fly. Well... I've never tried, but I think you'd know if you could fly." He started off his response awkwardly but eventually found his confidence again. He was still worried but at least if she was facing him she was less likely to fall... probably. Or did that make it more likely?

"Sorry, miss, if I could I'd take you with me. But flying isn't one of my talents. Ah, and I understand the longing, but... please do be careful... it's a long drop." He shifted nervously and the grip on his hat became even tighter. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if this girl fell off, and the way she was so careless about it made it feel more likely to happen. But would him telling her to be careful again make her upset? Too late now, but perhaps he should've thought more before speaking. It was hard to think when he was so anxious though... "Well... you don't have to be careful... It would make me feel better if you were, though." He had to calm down. What if he made her upset because he wasn't thinking and then because she's upset she's less aware and falls? The roof was a terrible place when other people were around. Seamus felt a little nauseous, even.

Of course, he then remembered he had been the one to intrude. He tried to swallow the feeling of nausea, "I'm sorry, miss, I didn't mean to bother you. I just... I saw you so close to the edge and wanted to just make sure you'd be careful... I was going to sit elsewhere." He made sure to apologize, in case she felt bothered or angry at him for his intrusion. He hoped she didn't really mind... but if she did he would leave immediately, though he would stress one more time that she should be careful.

A crease appeared between Ania's eyebrows when she heard that he didn't know how to fly. Well, she didn't know how to fly either but that certainly wasn't going to stop her from trying. He did have a point though, most people would know if they could fly by this age. It was extremely unlikely that she would magically sprout wings this late in the game.

She did perk up a bit when he said he would take her with if he did know. Maybe that meant he's hiding his talent. Maybe this person did know how to fly but didn't want her to know how. That made sense. Distracted momentarily by his hands, she saw that they were wringing a piece of cloth almost nervously. Was he nervous because of her? Sounded like it, if her being careful would make him feel better.

Standing up suddenly, Ania wavered a bit before she gained her balance. Advancing towards the person, Ania stared up at his face. Remembering her previous thoughts on him hiding any type of wings, Ania hopped behind the stranger and tugged his shirt up. Revealing an unremarkably plain back, Ania felt disappointment heavy in her heart. So he didn't have wings after all. Feeling around his shoulder blades to be positive, Ania huffed when she discovered no secret feathery protrusions.

Making her way back to his front, she finally decided to introduce herself to this flightless stranger. "I'm Ania. I want to fly."

'Dear God, I'm going to die up here...' Seamus thought immediately as the girl stood up but wavered, not having full balance. He was immensely thankful when she began walking towards him and away from the edge. He relaxed a bit and his poor hat was finally free from his nervous grip. The girl stared up at his face and so he stared back down at hers, wondering what this strange female was going to say or do next. It was at that point that she went behind him and lifted up his shirt to look at his back. "Uhm..." She searched his shoulder blades too, and Seamus eventually worked out that she was double checking. She had thought he'd lied about not knowing how to fly and was checking him for wings. How strange. He laughed a little when she huffed, "Yeah, sorry. No wings. I'm insulted you'd think I'd lie."

She returned to his front and introduced herself, and Seamus nodded slightly. Ania. That was a nice name. He chuckled again, "Yes, Ania, I've gathered that." This whole experience was about how she wanted to fly, after all. "I'm Seamus... I want to help people." Seamus introduced himself similarly. He quickly added, "--I can't help you fly, though. I don't have that kind of power. Maybe there's some magic out there that can help you with that." Though, now that he thought about it... "Well, I can't help you in the sense that I don't have make-people-fly abilities... I could help you search for something to make you fly though."

He sighed a bit, finally more relaxed. He felt suddenly tired. He ran his left hand through his hair and then put his hat back on. He brought a hand up to where the pin was to make sure it was still in place, as he had squeezed his hat rather hard, and then returned his hands to their neutral position once he was satisfied it was okay. Then he returned his full attention to Ania, though he had been paying attention to her while putting his hat on as well. She was an interesting new person... kind of unpredictable at the moment. Perhaps he would learn her ways after a while.

"You're a stranger. You could be lying about anything." Strangers could lie about anything, and would likely never get caught unless they sought a deeper relationship with the lie-ee. In fact, she could be lying right now about wanting to fly. She could just be making this whole thing up out of wild imagination. Of course, she did desperately want to fly, but that was entirely beside the point. Ania decided that she liked this person. At least he didn't drag her off the edge and tell her that her desires were silly. Resisting the urge to triple check his back, Ania's frown turned into a proud little expression. At least he appeared to be learning something from this encounter. She was Ania and she wanted to fly!

Her eyes flared with excitement when the stranger-- now introduced as Seamus-- mentioned that he liked to help. The momentary joy was snuffed when he added that he couldn't help her fly. But maybe he was right. Maybe some kind of magic could help her fly. But she did enjoy the idea of someone helping her journey of flight. "Yes. Help me fly. I want to fly." Ever demanding, Ania felt no need to filter her requests with politeness. He did offer, after all.

Her attention was caught once more when the cloth object was placed on his head. As Seamus was far too tall for her to snatch it off and inspect it, she jabbed at the air rather violently in the direction of the hat. Bouncing on her toes as if it would help him understand, Ania's arm wiggled a bit as if to emphasize the pointing. "That. What is it?" In fact, the bright colours of the pin had caught her attention. Wanting to inspect it further, Ania looked at Seamus with bright eyes, expecting him to understand her shorthanded speech implicitly.

As someone who thought of everyone as honest, even strangers, Seamus did not share Ania's suspicions. Really, the thought of her lying about anything was nowhere to be found within his brain. So, really all he could do was shrug a bit at her statement. He smiled widely as she accepted his offer of help without any kind of polite attitude. She seriously was like a child. It was cute. "Well, since you asked so nicely... But, yeah. I'll help you. As long as it takes, starting later today if you want. I have errands to take care of before we can start, but that's not for a bit."

When he placed his hat back on his head, Ania took notice and began bouncing and pointing at it. She was too short to reach it herself. She asked what it was as she bounced and pointed, still not helping the child image. He raised an eyebrow and took the hat off, holding it in front of her with the pin facing towards her, "My hat?" He made sure to keep a hold of it in case she tried to grab it, "You can look at it, I guess... But be careful with it, alright? The hat and the pin are both really special." he offered the hat to the short girl with a little bit of hesitation after saying that. Even the instructions sounded as if he were talking to a child... how old was Ania? She didn't look like a kid, that was certain... but she was the same height as one.

"The pin's a little... creepy, I guess. This kid I helped with his problems, a really troubled boy... He liked making things like that, and he gave that pin to me as a thank you. It's the only one like it he made, too." He offered an explanation to the pin, as he had been asked before about it. He could only assume she would ask about it too. It was a rather interesting to wear.

Pursing her lips at the hint of her impoliteness, Ania finally managed to squeeze out a small, 'please'. That was a nice word, wasn't it? Of course, there were many nice words, but Ania had never considered asking for things nicely. Demanding did the trick just fine. "Yes. I want to do it now." She didn't much care about errands or any sort of work that had to be done. Flying was much more important. Why did it have to be later, anyway? Doing things now was much more fun.

Ania bounced a little faster when Seamus took the hat off. Nodding absentmindedly at his request for her to be careful, Ania plucked the piece of clothing out of his hands. Turning it over and over, Ania memorised the different textures, running her fingertips repeatedly over the harder edges of the attached pin. Looking up momentarily when Seamus began to explain the story behind the pin.

The button offered a new excitement for her now that she had a backstory to attach to it. Touching it carefully, Ania looked up with a rather serious expression. "I want to bite it." In fact, she did want to bite it. Quite badly, too. However, she decided that biting a non-food object would probably not go over so well. Especially if this stranger harboured some sort of foreign pin-disease that he carried around on his hat.

Quickly becoming bored of her new toy, Ania gave it back to it's owner. Fidgeting for a moment, the girl glanced back down at the edge of the roof. She remembered her previous requests, and looked back up with a new determination. "Fly?"

Impatient, wasn't she? He supposed if he had to he could say something came up, since he really couldn't say no to someone's request. But she was distracted for a moment by his hat, so he didn't answer her right away. Seamus watched Ania as she seemed to study everything about his hat, turning it over and over. Interesting how she seemed to observe it. Did she do that with everything? He looked almost panicked when she mentioned wanting to bite the pin, the look on her face dead serious. "Please don't." Luckily she decided against biting it. She was... strange. Maybe unique would be a better word for it. Certainly abnormal, but wasn't everyone?

He took his hat back as she handed it to him and, once again, put it back on his head. She seemed to have a rather short attention span. However, after looking back towards the edge, she seemed to remember her earlier request. Seamus sighed and put his head back for a moment. "Alright, alright." He placed a hand on Ania's head, "We'll do it now." Then he looked down at her and added, "Since you're so impatient." as a playful jab at her rather impatient and childish attitude. He took his hand off of her head and folded his arms, taking a moment to think about where they should start.

"Well, any ideas on where to start? It's your dream, after all." He asked for his companion's input on the situation. He assumed the library would probably be as good a place as any to look, but maybe she knew some place better. Maybe there was a person who would be helpful. Searching the library could take a while if they weren't exactly sure what they were looking for, too. And then if they found some way in a book, well they'd have to figure out a way to obtain it in reality. It was going to be a lot of work... did she even have the attention span to go through with it?
