Wishing for What?

Though water was deadly for Serenity, it had a calming effect on her. So she went to the docks. It was night by the time she reached them, but she wanted to think. After the incident in the library, she wished she could go back. But was that really what she wanted? She just wished she could have said goodbye to James properly. She wished that she had not dropped the book. She wished that she would not have been dragged off by the librarian.
She heard footsteps right behind her. She turned around, a tiny glimmer of hope in her eyes. Then she felt something cold, very cold hit her, then she could not move.
"Ey, the girl was right! A bit o' water and she goes right out! Nice an' quiet, if you ask me!"
She felt herself be roughly lifted, then she saw nor felt anymore.

He'd originally planned to find Serenity after what had happened in the library, but had decided that it was probably safer to just pretend like nothing had happened. She'd been getting too close to his roots anyways.

But still. It bothered him, how much memories she'd delved up with that conversation. He shoved it back as he walked. He was due at the ship to be updated on what was going on, and if he didn't show up, the Captain would send them looking for him, and that was bad. So he went by the cover of night.

He got to the docks, and saw his ship waiting for him, like it was supposed to. He climbed aboard, and nearly cussed at the sight before him. Serenity was unconcious in front of him, and the Captain was no where to be seen. Morely was wearing the Captains hat, and sword, so Danger knew what that meant. He kept his cool, lieing was, after all, something he was very good at.

Morely approached him. "Captain's dead. I'm the new one." he stated, daring Danger to say otherwise. But Danger didn't.

Instead, he just dipped his head. "So I noticed." He flicked his eyes over to Serenity, then back to Morely. "Who's the girl?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Morely grinned a dirty grin. "She's goin' t' get us a load of money." he said, and the rest of the crew shouted "Aye!"

Danger nodded. "I see. Ransom?" he was still acting smoothe, as though he didn't care, but already his mind was racing with any possible ways to help Serenity.

After the pirates had taken Serenity, they had quickly made there way back to the boat, waiting for Danger to come. They knew he was either going to join them or they kill him. So they waited, smirking to each other and watching Serenity.

Meanwhile, though she could not move, see, or talk, Serenity could hear every word said. Until she had dried, she would be able to do anything but hear the words said. She started thinking to herself as she recognized a voice.

James? It can't be... He wouldn't lie... Ransom? Are these the same fiends who killed my mother? Oh, when I'm able to move, they will pay with their lives!

Her wings had fallen for her back, and the lay drooping and lifeless on the deck. Luckily, though Serenity still hated him with all her blood, the new captain had stopped the men from cutting off a bit or cutting them of completely.

Morely nodded. "Aye. You should remember her, Danger. She's the one you let get away." he sneered, making a point of jabbing Danger where he thought he was weak. Morely was wrong.

Within a split second, Danger had his dagger drawn at Morely's throat. "Look Morely. Just because I didn't kill you on sight for killing the Captain, doesn't give you license to give me problems. Remember, I could kill you faster than you can think, so you'd better pray that I keep you on my good side." he growled in a low voice. The rest of the pirates stood around, looking at eachother nervously, murmuring to themselves. He flicked his gaze over to the rest of the Pirates, dagger free hand gripping Morely tightly. "That goes for you too." he said to them, giving Morely an acidic look before releasing him.

None of the Pirates, including Morely wanted to challenge Danger, since he truly earned his name, and they didn't want to die. "Now. I'm going to look at this thing you claim will get you ransom. Anyone comes near me, within hearing range, I will kill whatever I need to. Kapeche?" they all nodded and backed off.

He moved forward, dropping onto his knees, pretending to look her over speaking without moving his lips. "Serenity, I know you can hear me. I'm going to get you out of this. I promise." he moved her hair out of her face, continuing to pretend to appraise the situation.

Serenity heard him, but she didnt believe him. She couldn't. She was a princess. He was a pirate. He lied to her. She knew he was that boy who tried to kill her, she could feel it. He wanted to kill her then, what made a difference now?

She could only hope that she could escape before these people, these monsters, killed her. She couldn't help but feel a big wad of sadness grow in her. She was being used to get money, she was betrayed by her best friend, and she got kidnapped by pirates.

Why was I running away from my people? At least I was safe there. I shouldn't have left. I never knew how cruel the world could be to people who... who are what they don't want to be. But James... Wait, he's not James anymore. He's Danger. And I fell for it. Again.

She felt like crying, but she knew she could not, and even if she could, she had to be strong and act as if she was really unconscious. But, she could actually feel life dripping back into her fingers. She would blow up this ship and return to her people. She would escape. Alive.

He continued to look over her, and said one more thing to her without moving his lips. "Look, I don't care if you hate me, but if you want to get out of this alive, when you wake up, speak in a different language. Either your native tongue or gibberish. Don't let on that you speak English." with that, he stood, turning and looking at Morely.

"Yeah, she'll work." he said simply, turning and fiddling with the ropes, making sure everything was tight, and making sure certain things would stop them from making an escape while he was gone. He continued to check over the boat, hoping the Serenity would take his advice. They'd kill her without a moments thought if she tried anything.

Serenity heard him, but she didn't care. She could feel her arms now, so it wouldn't be long, now.
James... Why is he with pirates, anyway? Did he join them? No, he must have been taken from home. He wouldn't join pirates, and if he did...
She felt one of her legs come out of the numbing state, and she could move her wings, if she wanted. But she didn't. She knew these pirates weren't idiots. They knew she could fly. But they didn't know that she could blow up their pretty little ship when she wanted. But the time she wanted was whenever Danger left. She didn't have the heart to kill him. She knew the part of him which she met in the library was still in there somewhere, below the pirate.

Danger sighed, looking at his watch. Time to go back. He finished what he was doing, and walked towards the dock. Morely stopped him. "Watch your back Danger." he warned, and Danger turned, looking at him cooly.

"Is that a threat, Morely?" he asked, hand moving down to his dagger, as he cocked an eyebrow. Morely said nothing else, and instead took a few steps back. James took the movement as permission to leave, and just before he was off the ship, he said, "Watch your back, Morely. I'll be back in the morning." With that he was on the dock, striding back towards land.

Serenity felt the rest of her body pull out of numbness. She knew Danger was off the boat. She sprang into the air, then, she set the boat on fire. It spread quickly, reaching the hold in a few minutes. Serenity flew higher, making sure the flames did not spread to the docks. Soon, there were only burning ruins floating in the water.
Serenity was shaking. How could she have done something so cruel?
I am never using my powers like that ever again. Never. No crime is evil enough to deserve a fate like that.

Danger heard the noise, then spun around, staring at the flaming ship. He didn't bother to run, try to save anyone, he knew he couldn't. He just sat on the shore, staring. He drew out his dagger, resting it on his knees. "She blew up my ship." he muttered to himself, shaking his head in disbelief.

He was amazed. Some of those people on the ship had been his friends. He didn't care about Morely, Morely'd killed his Captain. The man who'd raised him was dead, the people he'd grown up with were dead. This was not a good day. He continued to watch the flame, face blank of emotion, eyes dull. He was forcing himself not to care. He knew if he did it long enough he really wouldn't care.
