"But that's it, Sam, don't you see? You are causing the threads to break by pulling away," Bel said very quietly, her voice almost a hoarse whisper, "the more you ignore me, the further you pull away, the less you love me, the more miserable I am and the less reason I see to be here," she told him, choking on the truth as a lump formed in her throat. Life would have zero meaning if he left her, and she hated to think of living the next 200 years without him.

"I love you and I want you, and I know it's wrong in people's eyes, but ..." here she stopped, lowering her gaze to stare at the floor, blinking back tears. How could she tell him they weren't the first gods to have this befall them?

Bel had the memories of all the Beltane's before her, even the original's, and what was considered "a sin" today, had not been centuries ago. Bel knew it was a straw, a very thin and brittle one, but it was something she held onto fervently.

"Bel you're being silly. The Druids-" oh great. Now he was quoting them. Had he really fallen this far, that he was giving the advice he'd always hated from them to someone else? But somehow he felt justified in doing it.

"Bel all that matters here is what people say. It'd come out eventually, and I don't want to do that to you. Have you face down that ridicule." He reached out, nearly grabbing her shoulders but stopped himself.

Bel glanced then at Sam and flashed him a slightly annoyed look when he mentioned the druids. "The druids have no idea what it's like," she countered. "They read from old texts and books, but they have no idea, none whatsoever, of what being one of their beloved gods is like," she said.

Sighing, Bel shook her head, "So you are worried about what everyone else says? Regardless of whether that makes you or I happy?" Bel remarked sadly, very disappointed now, as she got up from the chair and purposely walked a few feet away from Sam, turning her back on him.

"You see, my druids, told me not to pay too much attention to the masses, to hold myself above their remarks and whisperings for there were always going to be those that disagreed with the gods, and to not give in to what people think or expect from you because, quite simply, gods bow to no one..." she quoted her voice devoid of emotion .. the advice that had been drilled into her constantly. Advice to never let someone tell her she was less and to bow down to them. Gods do not bow - ever. Gods move in their own circles.

"And my druids told me not to get so attached to things that losing them would drive me mad with grief. Because everything, everything is temporary!" Did he mean to shout like that? No, but he was getting frustrated and all of this was getting to be too much.

"Shut. Up!" Sam said, turning and glaring at the spirits following him, the ones Bel couldn't see or interact with. He might as well have been talking to empty air for all she knew. He slowly turned himself back to face her.

"No attachments. But here I am, heartbroken because I got too attached. I had this grand illusion of being together forever and of course this happened. Of fucking course." He hadn't grown up at all. He was still a child, the same one the Druids had chastised on a weekly basis for being too sentimental, too prone to melancholy.

Bel jumped a little and whirled around when Sam shouted, not expecting him to become so angry, but as he spoke she realised that it wasn't necessarily at her. He was shouting at something she could not see. Ghosts, maybe? Sprints?

"Sam," Bel said softly, "I do not care," she told him firmly, tired of him only seeing, or wanting to see, the negative side of things.

"I do not care what the world thinks," she told him as she walked up to him, inches away from his face now as she remembered her friend Sprinkles and how miserable he was because others had dictated what his life should be.

"In fact, I simply refuse to be unhappy any longer," she told him quietly as she did what she had wanted to do from the moment he appeared at the door. Leaning forward, Bel then kissed him, groaning softly as the familiar electricity hit her fast and hard.

Sam was primed to move back away from Bel when their lips met. He felt that familiar electricity pulse from his lips throughout his head, making his thoughts swim. Everything slowed down. He slid his hands onto Bel's hips, his lips parting slightly as he breathed her in.

He was rationalizing it even as he fought with himself to push her away. He had never known her; not really. They had had, what? Five or so years together before the druids had forced them apart? Taken them from their parents? He barely realized he was doing it as he breathed the words softly before returning his lips to hers.

"I love you."

No wait. This was moving too fast. Glossing over everything. Sam moved his hands to Bel's arms and pulled himself back from her a bit. "Wait wait. We can't... Bel I- I love you. I do." Or at least he thought he did. "But we... I need boundaries. I can't just jump right back into... all this. Not in good conscience."

Bel had stepped forward a bit more when Sam responded to her kiss, and upon hearing him tell her that he loved her, she gazed into his eyes about to tell him the same when he reclaimed her lips and kissed her again, her whole body felt electrified as she responded eagerly.

"Lords how I missed you," she murmured, her mind heady with what had just happened, just as Sam pulled back from their second kiss.

As Sam held her back a bit from him, Bel looked at him confused, not quite understanding what he meant. She hadn't assumed they'd just jump back into things tonight, heck she didn't think he'd come if she were honest.

Bel had simply hoped that they might start again somehow or just spend the night together.. she hadn't actually come with a firm plan in mind. She only knew she missed Sam, loved him and wanted to see and possibly be with him again.

"Wh-what do you mean by boundaries?" Bel finally asked him with a tiny frown.

"Boundaries, Bel. The kind we should have set from the beginning. Not just... fucking like animals all the time." Sam ran his hands through his hair, trying to quell his agitation. He didn't need this. He didn't want this. But his heart was grappling with the more rational, detached side of his brain.

"If we're... gonna a do this... we need to start out right. Proper. Take it... slow. Do you understand? I can't... it's gonna take me some time to get over the idea that we're... ya know."

"Oh," Bel said, now understanding as she took a step back from Sam, feeling his agitation and wondering if it was her who was causing it.

Giving Sam a slightly apologetic look, Bel then walked away from Sam and sat on a desk, saying nothing. She hadn't come here tonight to be yelled at or be accused or made to feel stupid. Instead, she held her tongue, knowing full well that a fight wouldn't get them anywhere right now. It would only serve as another wedge between them, and she didn't want that.

Also, Bel began to suspect as she sat there that her going out and just partying like she had, had helped her in unexpected ways. Like right now, she had no more energy to fight, didn't want to fight and was tired of the uphill battle that her daily life had become. It was only thanks to Agnes and Sprinkles that she hadn't ended up in worse shape than she was.

"Okay, so... take it slow, give you space, what else?" she asked her tone matter-of-fact, but not cold or unkind, she was just unsure what or how to approach Sam at the moment.

Sam watched Bel's reactions, making sure that she understood what he was saying. What he meant. She seemed to, at least. It was a start, he guessed. With a sigh he rubbed the bridge of his nose. He didn't want to bring it up yet, but he needed to be clear.

"All those things, yes. And I... really do not want people knowing that you and I are related. We don't need that drama. But also..." he began with a sigh. A heavy, defeated sigh. "If," he began, then reiterated, "if we are ever sexual with one another again, we have to use birth control. I'm not... I can't do that." Sam shook his head, decided on the matter. It had been one thing when she was just a girl he'd met. But Sam didn't want to bring a child into the world knowing there was a chance something could be wrong with it like that.
