It was a cool evening, crisp. The sun had just barely set and the sky was clear enough to see stars starting to come out. Maarab walked along the paths almost aimlessly heading in the general direction of the community centre, taking his time about it. It was probably a little chilly for the short sleeves he wore, showing off his mismatched arms, but he had been running earlier and hadn't bothered with a jacket.
Every so often Maarab would pause and watch the birds in the trees, a hand going to the chain around his neck, before he'd smirk, shake his head and continue on his way. A couple of times he stopped, picked up some small stones from the ground, and pocketed them.
Maarab soon tired of his solitary bird watching, but didn't quite feel like entering the community centre yet, and he was almost there. So he wandered over to a nearby bench and sat, turning his gaze to the sky. It crossed his mind that his father was in a different dimension now, though their telepathic connection didn't seem to have dimmed. It made him feel something he couldn't put a name to. The idea that he might actually miss his home made him turn up his head and laugh, though it was more of a cackle, lacking warmth.
