Why To Hate a Place

Krish did not like this place like he was hoping to. He doesn't know why he thought he'd be alright with this place, but apparently whatever he was thinking convinced him enough to get him far into the Strip. And now his eyes hurt from all the lights, the cold was more than a little annoying now that he was just trying to look comfortable, and he was convinced he looked out of place.

Actually, he was more than convinced, he knew. Gritting his teeth and hunching his shoulders did nothing to block the thoughts that made him feel smaller, or more like something to pity. He hated looking freaked out, but this place was just an experience he probably could go without, and it's like everyone could tell. And instead of feeling thoughts that gave him the impulse to yell or punch someone, impulses to ask for the quickest way out of here shot through his head.

"Get it together, look tough, look like seen this all before...!" Krish muttered under his breath, straightening out his back. Really, he could go on, don't look like the lights bother you, or some places make you way too uncomfortable. But He shouldn't be needing to pep talk himself! He just, had to figure out what steps he took to get in here, get out, and look like he wasn't regretting any decisions! Even if all the lights and oddness made him nearly wish for the old, stupid country!

Another turn past a corner later he ducked a smaller path, smiling once he felt no impulses at the moment. Meant nobody was within ten feet of him and he could pull himself together, suck it up and keep walking. But just as he closed his eyes and tried to rub away the headache at the sides of his head, he felt the presence of another person. "Who's there? There's nothing really this way, follow the lights if you want those shops." He tried to get whoever was coming to leave, he just needed to get himself feeling better before he went back where people could see him, because right now, he knew he looked too overwhelmed.

It wasn't unusual, to see people who were clearly not accustomed to the Strip. You could usually see it a mile away when someone was struggling their way through the area. Usually Cosette left them be, too afraid of leaving too big of an impression on the person and angering Ulric. But tonight, as Cosette was walking some ways behind the young looking...person, she felt like helping. They looked just that frantic and spooked, and Cosette felt bad for the poor thing. They looked to be even muttering to themselves. Oh dear.

The person ducked aside, to a less walked and narrow path, and Cosette stopped for a moment, reconsidering if she should meddle. Maybe they were just not feeling well, perhaps due to intoxication. That was common around here. But they hadn't had the usual demeanor of someone intoxicated, and had seemed very nervous. Cosette wanted to help, and thus she carefully walked over to the corner and looked around it. The person was still there, rubbing their temples, and Cosette carefully stepped closer. She was wearing her usual baggy clothes and had a hood up, because she had left her nullification bracelet home. So Cosette's aura was in effect. But she hoped her ugly, too big clothes would prevent people from feeling any sexual attraction towars her.

"Oh, no. Excuse me, I'm just, um..."
Cosette carefully pulled her hood down, and on her face there was a careful, gentle smile as she took a small step closer.
"I'm no one suspicious. I just wondered if you were alright. You do not look so good. Can I help somehow?"
Cosette's French accent was clear, but it softened her words and her emerald eyes shone with concern.

(Sorry this took me a while to get to, it slipped my list, but I will be more attentive now!)

Oh, it was just a pretty lady. But Krish still kept tense, especially once her concern became obvious even to him, she clearly realized he didn't exactly know this place like everyone else seemed to. And you know what? Even if he looked less than great he wasn't going to say that was true.

So, after dropping both his hands from his head, Krish immediately tried to deflect the woman's concern. "Yeah, actually, I'm perfectly fine, just perfect. Just... the lights that everyone got to be annoyed with are everywhere, right?" Sure, they probably didn't hurt other people's heads, but if he treated it like everyone experienced something bad from the lights then he'd look less weak.

"So you don't need to help, unless you have some way to make the lights less annoying." He said this with a shrug, squinting when the headache remained just as painful. A little bit of help would, well, not be turned away, but he did not want to say that directly. He wasn't that pathetic to ask from help in the Strip from a random stranger.

Perfectly fine? Somehow Cosette had hard time believing that, the person still looked like they were having a hard time. Well, the lights were quite bright, but were they so distracting that they made someone this uncomfortable? Cosette had hard time believing that as well.
"I suppose so, they are pretty bright if you're not used to them..."
Cosette agreed hesitantly, not moving from where she was, still observing the person with concern.

A way to make the lights less annoying? Cosette didn't know how to do that, but...
"If...if you'd like I know a shortcut. One that's more calm and has normal streetlights. That is, um, if you'd like me to show you. It leads to the shopping district."
It was the way Cosette took on Thursdays, when she could leave the Strip. But today wasn't Thursday, she wouldn't be able to walk with the person all the way.

Krish nodded a bit more enthusiastically than he preferred, but honestly, getting another option out of the everything that was this place was great. The woman still looked concerned, but he doubted that would last. He couldn't look that bad still, even if he didn't feel perfectly fine, plus, he could fake it!

Taking a few steps down the only real path at the moment, he stopped for the woman, pulling his sleeves over his hands. "Then let's go, if the lights there are actually normal than maybe this place could actually be fun like people say it is. Or have somewhere different to go, whichever."

Preferably the second option, specifically, an exit. Whatever.

Oh, the person was willing to come along with Cosette. Usually these kinds of offers should be taken carefully, after a long time of consideration, and maybe not even then. Cosette wasn't a bad person, but many people here were.
Well, Cosette would show this poor thing a safe and calm route out of the Strip and make sure to perhaps warn them on the way. If she gathered enough courage.

They were eager to go, and Cosette smiled slightly and stepped into the lights again.
"Fun comes in many forms, I guess. Personally I like to have fun by singing or watching leaves sway in the wind. Maybe this place isn't your kind of fun. Oh, I'm Alice. Nice to meet you."
Cosette said gently, and began walking down the street, at the edge of the crowd so the person wouldn't feel so stuffy.
"The way isn't far away from here, just about hundred meters this way. Come now, follow me."

Cosette hadn't lied about the way not being far, after about hundred meters there was an alley. Cosette turned to it, after checking the person she was doing this for followed, and just like that on the other side of the alley was a street that was normally lit with warm orange streetlights, and it only had few people. The street, as Cosette would begin walking along it, only had a small deli or other such restaurant along it, some hair salons and few grocery stores.

Singing? Watching the leaves in the wind? Krish took a long look at the woman, head tilted. While he had to admit, the woman did look like the type to do something like that, it still was pretty weird, especially for someone here. Unless she had a specific reason to like that stuff and be here?

"Are you a performer then? People said there's all sorts of performers here, whatever that means. And seriously, those hobbies sound like something famous people say, in like, TV. Even I got more average sounding hobbies, like YV and such." He didn't know why, to sound erratic on purpose? Sure, not everyone did that for that reason, probably, but it could be!

He crossed his arms tightly. "Not my type of fun? This place is supposed to be for mature people and I'm pretty certain I'm more mature than the usual teenager. I'd be doing as fine as everyone else, if the lights weren't a little annoying and I knew this place more." Did that sound childish to anyone but himself? Krish certainly wouldn't notice, instead, awkwardly transiting to the next part of the conversation with a small wave. "And, uh, just, hey Alice. I'm Krish."

He kept his arms crossed until they have passed both the crowd, alley, and everything, finally dropping his arms once they were at the better side of the alley. He smiled, walking faster near Alice's side. "A normal place for once!" He craned his neck around. "Actually this place is real normal, guess even this place needs some average things." Not that he was complaining.

Performer. Guess you could call Cosette that. This child didn't know what kind of place the Strip was? Since they said they weren't sure what kind of performers the Strip had.
Oh dear, this poor thing had no idea what a dangerous place they had wandered into. Cosette wanted to help them get out even more now.
"I don't watch much television, I didn't know celebrities say such things. That's a fun coincidence."
Cosette said with a small chuckle, evading the question about herself being a performer. But she did wonder what YV meant.

This person was a bit prideful, that much was clear. They didn't want to admit this place was making them uncomfortable and anxious. But that was okay, Cosette understood not wanting to show weakness to a stranger, or anyone, and she wasn't about to strip them of their shield.
"I'm sorry if I seemed rude, I suppose this place is a bit too much for me sometimes, so I was assuming."
Cosette said with a small, apologetic smile.
"Krish? That's a wonderful name."

Krish started to clearly feel better when they exited the main street, and Alice smiled as she saw Krish smile as well.
"This is a street the residents of the Strip often frequent. Workers and...performers and such, who live in the Strip."
Cosette explained, and began leading Krish down the street towards the normal world Krish belonged in.
