Why must we bump into each like this?

"Bing dong!" when the sliding glass door as it opens up for Johanna, whom is just leaving local convenience store with single plastic bag tucked under her arms. As the automatic doors close just behind her, Johanna rummaged through the bag and pulled out a box of Pocky. Johanna rips away the plastic casing and pops the small red box open to pull out a single Pocky stick between her fingers. She she twirls the stick against her fingers before she slips it in the space between her peachy lips. Since arriving to Earth, Johanna as become quite fond of these Pocky sticks. They were nothing more than a thin biscuit stick dipped in a thin layer of chocolate but perhaps its that simpleness that was its most endearing quality.

As Johanna nibbled on her Pocky stick, she turned her head to the left and was surprised to see her brother Hadrian... of all people here. Her face instinctively lit up upon seeing her precious brother before remembering the Pocky stick still sticking out of her mouth. She quickly scarfed down the treat, tossed the Pocky box back into the plastic bag, then approached her brother in a dignified fashion.

"Hadrian! You surprise me with your presence here! I could have sworn that you suppose to be somewhere else... well it matters not. Its always good to see you my brother." remarked Johanna.

Life on the island had been a whirlwind of experiences for Hadrian, so much to see, so much to do, and he'd felt like he'd needed to see and do it all at once. It all left him drained in a weird way, he felt lost, unsure of who he was, he'd hidden it relatively well from everyone, but not tonight. Tonight it showed, especially after he tried to distract himself with one of the clubs, now here he was, wandering around the city, disheveled and smelling of sex and booze.

The young angel hadn't been expecting to bump into anyone he knew, so he froze up when he heard her voice. Johanna, his sister, the person he loved more in this world than anything else, taking a breath, he slowly turned to face, there'd be no escape, no cleaning himself up before speaking with her this time.

"H-hello sis," he'd say, trying and failing to have his usual sweet and innocent voice as he spoke, his voice was a little shaky and she'd no doubt him looking off. "I...it's good to see you out about," he'd rub his left arm nervously, "picking up some snacks?" The angel wasn't aware of it, but his aura's affects were slowly changing and growing in strength even now his sister would feel it's affects.

Johanna's smile faded as Hadrian turned to her as she saw face to face his disheveled form. His beautiful hair matted and discolored from sort of dye, his posture tense and his voice shaky. Johanna never saw Hadrian so sullied before.

"Oh... your hair i-its so... filthy. How could you go around walking around looking like that? When you get home your in dire need of a bath." sighed Johanna as she comes in front of her younger yet taller brother, standing on the very tips of her toes to comb her fingers through his hair to make some attempt to make Hadrian presentable. It was when she was close she could catch the whiff of alcohol and musky sweat. Her nose scrunched up as she takes a step back from Hadrian, frozen stiff as if she was staring at some alien creature instead of her brother.

Johanna's mind raced for some excuse, some legitiment reason that Hadrian would be smelling of sins... even she already suspected the truth for some time. In truth... she almost didn't want to know... and part of her wished to remain ignorant even when it was so obvious now.

"H-hadrian..." stammered Johanna, before clearing her throat. She ignores her brother's questions and goes straight on what is on her mind "What are you doing out here? You smell of alcohol and some..." Johanna breaths in, then exhales as she demands " ...I dunno what else. Please explain... now."

Her eyes narrowed to Hadrian, her posture erects she presents herself as not as his sister but as military official expecting a debrief. Even as she puts on her hardline military facade, inside her heart was racing, panic was coursing through her views even if Johanna appears otherwise composed.

"It's dye," he said, looking at her, "I...you know, had it a few colors for a while, just don't know what to do with it anymore." He flinched a little as she went about fixing his hair knowing she'd picked up the smell, he'd hoped to shower before he saw her, unfortunately his luck wasn't at its best it seemed. The angel gave her a worried look as she stepped back, his eyes going down to look at the ground as she spoke.

Looking up at her, he made a disgusted face, "no, no, don't do that!" he cried out, surprising himself, "you're not an officer, you're not an archangel, we're not in any military!" He took a shake breath, one of his hands shaking a little, slowly shaking his head as he tried to calm himself.

"W-we're not home," he finally said after a moment of silent, "I'm not a failed soldier in training for you to look down on and judge, not here, not anymore" One hand grabbed the other to stop it from shaking, "if you want to know, then ask as my sister!"

Johanna grits her teeth as her brother, surprised that Hadrian stood up to her the way he just did but that still doesn't change the fact that he didn't answer her question. By the heavens above what was she going to do with him?!

"No, not this time. I have been going too easy on you. I have allowed you too much freedom and only now it is that I see that I am losing you. Now must I repeat myself? I asked you a question and I expect a response. Now... explain yourself." ordered Johanna, giving Hadran a stony stern gaze with the cold sneer of her command.

As she waits for her brother's reply, she silently wonders to herself where it was that she went wrong. She was the older sibling, she was the one responsible for Hadrian and should have reached out to Hadrian to set him on the straight path. But she allowed him to wander too far and she is struggling to cast him back to her. She can't allow him to slip away from her slowly like this... now was the time to make her stand... even if Hadrian was hating her for it. Can he not see how much she worries for him? How much that she loves him?

"No," he said calmly, tears appearing in his eyes, "you're not mother and father and I'm not a soldier you can order around." His entire body trembled as he spoke, "I'm not some living disappointment for people to judge and order about," the tears started to stream down his face, though he did his best to stop them and to wipe them away.

"I-I have a choice Johan, I have freedom," he took a breath and brushed some hair from his eyes, "yeah....maybe I tried to much at once...or something but I....it's still my choice." The angel looked back up to her, she was everything to him, his sister, his family.

"I've done enough to where they would have probably exiled me if we were still home," he wiped the last of the tears away, "but damnit I'm still your brother and I want to be treated like your brother! Not like the family shame....not like how our parents treated me."

"You have freedom but not restraint. You have given into impulses thinking only of yourself and giving little thought to my own concerns the concerns of your peers." glowered Johanna, looking to Hadrian in disappointment before letting out a sullen sigh "You are correct that I am neither mother nor father. If I was half of what they were I would have set the record with you straight long before we reached this predicament. Your no soldier... that I always knew... but you are my brother and I have always saw your potential. You... always had compassion and the strength to draw out the best out of others! Maybe everyone saw you as a failure and myself a prodigy but I alone saw that you could be so much more than me. Not as foot soldier but... something else, something better that what I ever hope to be. Which is why it is all the more difficult for me to speak to you now..."

Johanna inhales then rubs her neck as she struggles with the lump logged in her throat. It broke her on the inside to see her brother well into tears. It hurt her to hear how much he despised their family and home for not living up to their high expectations. It tortured her that she has has to stand by her heavenly convictions even when it pitted her against the only family she had left, against the man she loved more than any other in this world. What a cruel test of faith this was for god to burden her with.

"H-however far you have f-fallen... I beseech that you pray for god's forgiveness and that you mend your ways starting today. God might forgive you but... I..." a single tear falls from her eye, following the contours of her cheek as she quickly tried to wipe it away with the sleeve of her jacket. "... I-I c-cant forgive myself for failing y-you. For a-allowing you to ruin your beautiful golden l-locks with harsh pigments. To allow you to l-live this life of... d-debauchery! I-I didn't w-want to be like our parents b-but... and i-in trying not to e-emulate them I allow t-this festering b-between us."

Johanna's calm exterior was beginning to chip away, torn by the turmoil brewing inside. She shakily rubs her right temple, exhausted from the conversation that she never to have had. All she had originally wanted was to enjoy a simple chocolate coated biscuit stick and now her she was begging her brother to return to the righteous path again. Was this forever going to their fate? Bickering between piety and selfish freedoms?

Hadrian looked to her and listened to her as she spoke, he'd listen to everything she'd say is silence, for despite their arguing, he still loved her and still wanted to hear what she had to say. "This isn't....me doing this is not your fault," he took a shaky breath, "I did all those things, drank, slept with womem. I chose this, you didn't do this, it isn't your fault," in truth he didn't completely regret it, he'd just done to much at once.

"I guess I am fallen, or maybe still falling...I don't know," he took another breath and held onto his own arms, "we never met God, and I don't know, following a being you never see or hear just....," he'd shrug, "maybe I want to put more faith in people, in the here and now, than anything else."

Sighing, he stepped over to her and pulled her into a hug, making sure not to crush her bag, "I'm sorry I got angry, I'm sorry that I've worried you." He'd gently rub her back, "this isn't the outpost, so we're probably both a bit lost...just know that....I love you, always will."

"P-please don't say such things! D-don't say that your losing your way! Putting your trust into something without evidence is the nature of faith! Why must you do this to your sister... I-I'm slowly losing you and I don't know what to do..." sighed Johanna. As she lowered her head, suddenly she felt her brothers arms wrap around her.

Johanna threw her arms and wings around her bother, her fingers clutching tightly on his coat even as her entire body felt weak from Hadrian's embrace. She even let her bag of goodies fall to the ground, she wanted to hold onto her brother more than some cheap snacks.

"If you really mean that... please... Hadrian... I beg of you. Please reform your ways now... please do what I know you know is right. B-because at this moment... y-your going down a dark path t-that can't follow... I... I worry t-that if I let go n-now-" Johanna tightens her hold on her brother, her nails digging into his clothing "- I worry that I might not ever hold you like this again... "

Johanna rests her head on Hadrian's chest, her ear pressed close to his heart as she listen to the steady beat.

He'd gently rub her back, his fingers slowly combing through her hair, "shhh....Johan, I'm not going anywhere." Hadrian would continue to hold her close as he spoke, "I don't really know what's going to happen, life here isn't what I expected, it's so different, a lot has changed, but me and you, us, that's something that will never change."

The angel would kiss the top of her head, "I have faith in you, I know we've argued stuff, but my faith in you has never faded." He'd rest his cheek on the top of her head, whispering everything he said, "you won't lose me, I will always be here."

Then he felt it, the pulse of her emotions, the empathy that's been popping up was activating again. He felt her sadness, her frustration and her love for him, but this love wasn't the kind he expected, it made his face flush with realization. "Sis....do you love me?"
