Wren didn't know if Allen was technically allowed into her room, with the boys' and girls' rooms being separated and all, but it wasn't like she could be bothered by it. In her head she had already prepared the perfect excuse; she was new here after all, she didn't understand it, no habla englais and all that jazz. Nobody who could get them into trouble then, right? Besides, she would have come here with Allen even if it meant getting in trouble, because today was a very very special day. It was Allen's birthday! Her brother from another mother was quickly becoming an old geezer, so she had to treasure the days they had left and spend them partying. And that was exactly what the two of them had done. They had started the evening off in the club, dancing and drinking to their heart's content.
Wren had been feeling very generous and she had bought most of their drinks. She had even tipped a bartender so that they would put some extra good stuff, aka alcohol, in his drink. Only the best for her BFF! And that was basically a summary of the evening so far. A lot of loud music, bright lights, and she was having the best time of her life. But after they had danced so much, Wren still had another surprise for Allen - an amazing birthday gift. That was the least she could do, right? Last year, Allen had given her a stick with a hand on it that she could use to order people around with, or to smack them over the head. So of course she had to give him something even better! For that purpose, Wren had smuggled the birthday boy into her room and dumped him on her bed, where he was to wait with his eyes closed while she tried to unearth the gift from the pile of stuff in her room.
Wren's initial pride in the amazing-ness of her present was quickly reaching critical panic levels, however, as she was tearing through the stack of clothes and accessories on her floor. The fact that she was already pretty drunk did not help her in controlling her emotions. So far, she had found the paper and the ribbons that she had intended to pack her gift, but there was no sign of the actual gift itself. And as she dug around more and more, she got that sick feeling in her stomach, indicating that something was wrong. Somehow, the present was not here. Wren stopped throwing her stuff around and sat on the ground, defeated, not saying anything yet. No. She was so sure! She'd went to the store, had taken an hour or so to find something specific, and when she had found and paid for the perfect gift, her alarm had gone off and-
Wait. This memory, it didn't make sense. Her alarm? She was fairly sure her Totally Spies ringtone was not an alarm used in stores, meaning that.. buying the present.. had all been a dream. Well then. Wren felt a feeling of panic surge through her as she quickly turned back to check whether Allen was still waiting. 'Hahaha, no peeking!!' she laughed nervously, and she rustled with some clothing to make it seem like she was still searching. No, no, no! How could she have forgotten? She'd been so sure! But now it was his actual birthday and Allen was waiting for what she had claimed to be "the most amazing gift ever". Wren almost started sweating when she imagined the disappointed look he would have on his face. No, she couldn't let it get to that.
Suddenly, a new idea downed on her, in a moment of inebriated genius. Something not quite as innovative as the gift she had bought in that damned dream store, but something that she would definitely get away with. Good. Wren didn't even hesitate as she picked up the ribbon that had been meant for her gift and tied it around her own head in a sloppy bow. Allen deserved his gift, she wanted him to have the most amazing day of the year. So whatever she did, she was going to give him something; anything at all. It might be a stupid idea, but her drunk brain insisted it was definitely the smartest and best thing to do.
'Okay, I have it!' she announced when she had gotten up and was walking towards Allen again. 'Just keep your eyes closed for a bit longer, okay? And hold out your hands!' Wren waited until Allen did as instructed and then sat down next to him. All right. The time was here. She looked at the boy beside her for a second, then nodded to herself and breathed in deeply. 'Happy birthday!' Wren cheered. Then she leaned in, took his face between her hands, and pressed her lips against his. Just a quick, innocent birthday kiss, that maybe was not so short because she decided she liked kissing him more than she had initially thought, but still. A birthday kiss for a birthday boy. She could only hope he would be as happy about this as she was.
